The Fake Tank Preference Poll

Lmao, the only correct choice in terms of efficiency and speed is the third one, and it has the least votes.

It's a FACT that you can do all normal dungeons faster with a fake tank that slots taunt and self sustain. Why would you rather waste time with one less person doing damage?

I hate that 18k hp 'tank' quits immediately when queue into a DLC dungeon and leaves our three responsible members to finish the long dungeon.

I don't mind fake tanks in normal base game dungeons, however I would like a real tank in the dlc dungeons where the bosses, adds and mechs hit hard. And if it's a veteran dungeon, group will vote the fake tank out immediately.

Too many times in random dlc dungeon normal where a tank is needed I would get a Oakensorc player with no taunt whatsoever and is not even dealing enough damage while the healer or the other dpses get whaled on by the aggroed bosses.

As some players said before the old generation of fake tanks had the dps to crush anything but now most of these fake tanks are essentially fake dps.

This. Cut the newbies and casuals some slack, guys. Not everyone spends every waking moment on the forums or other sites trying to squeeze that extra .01% of spell resistance in, and unless you’re trying to no-death the thing - in which case you shouldn’t be running in a PuG - odds are good it doesn’t matter that much.

They also have to not be the first one to die in every fight. Having to keep rezing the "tank" makes everything harder for the whole group.

I think all normal dungeons, classic and dlc, should become role neutral. Drop health obs, shield orbs, mana/stamina orbs while battling mobs/bosses to facilitate the journey. That way we can still keep the dungeon challenging and entertaining even if all of the role are dps.

Every base game Dungeon and the old DLC Dungeons are better with 4 DDs and selfheal. No need for a tank.
Fake DDs are a bigger Problem for me.

in normal dungeons I don't really mind but I prefer a fake tank with a taunt over a fake tank in general. In vet dlc dungeons, I would vote to kick a fake tank.

Pretty much me. I'm 100% fine if its a fake, and to help out the stick a taunt on. The last thing I want to be doing as a DPS is running round the room chasing the boss bc the fake tank isnt able to control the boss in any way. Fake tank, with no taunt, no effort to even try and control the boss, I'm voting to kick. Just makes the dungeon longer than necessary to me. Especially DLS dungeons.

As long as they can hold agro and survive the mechanics, I don't care if they're a completely real tank.

Ideally, for a normal dungeon, I want the tank and healer to have decent dps.

I go into normal pugs with a self heal as a dps and knowing I might have to heal myself and deal with boss agro at times.

Sometimes I heal normal pugs and have to carry the dps for the group because a larger problem, imo, than fake tanks is dps players who don't know how to dps. Therefore I don't go into those groups with an optimized healing build. If I tanked, I would take the same approach.

Eeeh, depends whether or not their presence is causing a wipe. I sometimes run a "fake" stamina arcanist healer. I just DPS and then when people get low I swap bars and press the heal beam instead of the damage one. It works well enough for the base game veteran dungeons.

My personal pecking order for this:

Real Tank > Fake Tank but it's a friend/Guild mate > Stranger Fake Tank w/Taunt > Stranger Fake Tank without but easy dungeon > Stranger Fake Tank on Med dungeon but high DPS > Stranger Fake Tank without taunt on a Harder and/or Vet Dungeon

At this point, Even I have a Tank on hand I can switch to in case of no tanks/saving others from bad fake tanks - Thinking of making another.

When it comes to the other side of this..
Real Healer > Fake Healer but it's a friend/Guild Mate > Stranger Fake Healer with a heal ability or res staff added > Stranger Fake Healer without but on a Easy dungeon > Stranger Fake healer without any heals but strong DPS on some easy & medium dungeons > Fake Healer without heals on Hard/More mechanic heavy medium & Vet dungeons

While self heals are important, sometimes the extra heal is needed for some things..
I have like 2 Healers in this case, Different builds.

(Often time it Depends on the dungeon and type (Normal/Vet) in most cases for both Fake Heals & Fake tanks)

There're only one reason I can accept fake tank.
The acceptable fake tank must be "super DD".

    But!!

I've never seen super DD as fake tank. Most of those fake tank is
also fake DD or average. Simply say, they were Mr "nothing".
People who doesn't have any of role skill mostly do fake tank.

I've met many of great DD player when I was in the my real tank though....

Because it isn't always about you, and going as fast as possible to your standards. It is also a FACT that almost every single MMO I've played, very much including ESO, has a critical shortage of Tanks, followed by Healers. The only way people actually LEARN these roles is by doing them. I main Healers and Tanks in every game I've ever played, going on 20+ years of MMOs now.

And my big take away? No one wants to let the Support Roles... learn their actual roles. You advise new players to level as DPS (because FASTER) regardless of what they WANT to play, and then expect them to magically become expert Tanks and Healers at endgame when it's convenient for you. That's not how it works. And the rudeness and entitlement and enforced fast-pace burns out and discourages A LOT of learning and baby Support players. Let them learn Tanking in Normals. Cool your jets. Be patient and polite, and more people will take on those roles.

Speaking from decades of experience: learning how to Heal and Tank PUGs is its own skill, too. So: no, I don't think people who are learning should ONLY run with friends and guildies, either. You develop skills you never would otherwise in the absolute chaos of PUGs. People aren't actually entitled to an expertly executed, high-speed run every single time they queue for a Random.

I regularly Tank and Heal, and often need to be helpful and patient with someone learning on the other Support role, or a newer/struggling DPS player. Patience is free, and people tend to be grateful if you're not a jerk to them.

Speed runs are nice when they happen. I also enjoy helping people figure it out, so those runs have their charm too. Some of you need to take a breath. We're all here together. It's not really that big an imposition to be patient with people.

If it’s a base game, random normal dungeon, I don’t care about roles. I have soloed all them, so I don’t need an optimal team. If it’s DLC normal, I would prefer a tank but can live without it. I usually queue as a healer, so queue times don’t matter much for me. If I see the dungeon is base game, I usually switch to a dps spec and get it done.

Wish there was a "depends on the difficulty level" option. I don't much care on normal difficulty dungeons, care a bit on normal difficulty trials and vet-difficulty base-game dungeons, and care a lot on veteran-difficulty anything else. At the end of the day, the "fake tank" and "fake healer" issues are mostly the result of the game's defaulting players into DPS roles, making queue times the real issue and the rest an unwelcome by-product of players trying to deal with the underlying issue.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

I Play in the majority as a healer, some can do a little damage, All are TANKS! DPS is not really for me these days, way to many buttons to push!

if a fake tank comes in , its now the norm on non vet dungeons, then I just switch Bars and do the job myself , it honestly does not make a difference to me, sometimes its actually quite fun!

But on Vet / Trails , I do think a fake tank is more of a liability than a help

Fake tanks should be immediately kicked from group in veteran difficulty DLC dungeons , or veteran difficulty trials. Full stop.

For the sake of this poll, a real tank holds high threat aggro, stacks enemies, buffs the group (likely none of these things at an end-game level, but makes an effort), but does minimal damage . A fake tank does decent damage for a group finder pug, may or may not have a taunt slotted, and provides no other support typical of a tank.

For a random normal dungeon (standard chance of being base game or DLC) would you rather have:

Let’s discuss fake dps first. People who not even able to do 15k dps. They queue for vet dlc dungeons with 10k dps and tank has to do rezz mini game. Fake tank is just newly invented keyword for fake ultra low dps. Except some dlc dungeons fake tanks is not even a problem. I have a proper tank build which buff up to 50 percent dps and a fake tank. Most of the time I end up using fake tank build to clear dungeon.

Some Noob dps just creating fake noise .
Next poll put fake dps poll. I am tired of carrying them .

it doesn't matter on normal dlc as long as the fake role is actually good. Most normals can be duo or soloed with decent players. If I see a fake tank in group and I'm still doing 50%+ of dps, I would consider leaving unless it is something I really wanted to do.

New players learn about dungeons in normal randoms. These inexperienced players benefit from a real healer and tank. Having a fake tank/healer who is actually a DPS blowing through the dungeon at speed isn't what helps them learn.

Even someone with a higher CP might be new to dungeons.

And then there are the fake tanks who bail when they realize they have March of Sacrifices or Lair of Maasolok instead of Banished Cells. Worse the ones that don't bail and make things miserable for everyone else.

And there is Scrivners Hall, a good tank can make all the difference.

Give me a level 45 baby tank who is trying and learning to a 2000+ CP DPS "tank" who is just in it for the rewards anytime.

The best tank is useless, if the group lacks of dps. Banished Cells 2 is a dps race, even its a tiny dps race, it is still a dps race and I have seen many groups, where the tank has to deal with 10+ daedra und the boss is not going to fall.

I for myself i dont play as pure DD, i play as tanky healer or as healing tank.

The only meaningfull group buff the tank/heal can deliver are debuffs on enemy. Everthing else is mostly redundant and wasted if you play in random groups.

Especially in DLC vet dungeons, everthing is about mechanic. A common tank and healer usually deliver 30k dps aswell as doing their role meanwhile. A full tank does maybe 5-10k dps, but is able to survive most bosses without any aid and is able to pick up your fellow mates that has fallen.

At the end of the day, you have to play what things fit yourself best and you have fun.

I want more players to tank. The only way people can learn to grab all the adds with single target taunts, when to stand in stupid protecting their team, when to roll and when to block, is by practicing.

But hey ' we don't need tanks/healers in normal' . This directly leads to a derth of both when you do need them. The toxic remarks about new '40k tanks in ebon' being unwelcome leads to the zillions of threads about fake tanks/fail tanks. And the long queues. Who wants to learn to tank as a newer player, when the 1st thing said to you in a group is 'we don't need a full tank'.

Then some big note dd actually has to attempt to tank harder stuff ON NORMAL with their 'good dps tank' and fails spectacularly because they eat the heal debuff/one shot over and over again in a new dungeon, then tries to kick the healer because it's the healers' fault that the fail dps tank dies to a basic tanking mechanic.

But yeah, let's scorn people learning to tank on normals and let's exclude all new healers from 'easy' runs because that works so well for the game long term ./s off.
