Companions should be more useful by having jobs... SUCH AS DOING OUR CRAFTING SURVEYS!

Honestly, I would not view them as lesser characters just because they did surveys.

What they do in movies is not relevant to what we are doing in this game.

I honestly see it as demeaning to them. I think of my Companions as I do my own characters, and even moved Azandar into Kelesan'ruhn as his own workshop and house. My Arcanist also gave him free access to her study and looks up to him as a mentor, not a subordinate.

I know we don't see eye to eye on this, as has happened with other subjects in the past, but I feel very strongly about this and hope they never do something like this.

As I suggested above, just make the surveys sellable for a lesser amount of mats or gold... problem solved.

Those movies are very relevant to what I do in this game because they are good metaphors for how I view the relationship between myself and my companion. If your character demean them by doing it, you could always opt out. But not all of us feel that way at all. In fact, I find the idea that I'd be demeaning my own companions to be a little bit offensive. There's nothing wrong with manual labor. And being an apprentice does not exclude us from being allies or even friends. This is a fantasy game and the Yoda/Luke Skywalker type relationship is pretty typical of the genre and one many enjoy.

As I said, I wouldn't mind an alternative if they offered that instead.

I can only speak for how this makes me feel. I understand that not everyone sees it the same way.

I feel as if some people are WAY too invested in "who" the companions are.... They are pixels on a screen. In fact, they all are pretty marginal as even "sidekicks". The most one can really say about them is that they aren't even attractive, and they have silly dislikes that make them annoying to deal with....

Everything in this game is just pixels on a screen. We all perceive these pixels in our own ways, and no one's perceptions are wrong.

Without reading all seven pages or so...

Maybe the hireling passive in the crafting skill lines could use a rework. A 'hireling mailbox' storage furnishing made available to every player through some means (unlocking the passive, getting a certain achievement or outright buying via writ vouchers or gold). If a survey for their craft type is available in the 'hireling mailbox', the hireling does that survey (not affected by any CP passives or slot-able) and sends those materials. Otherwise, the hireling would send the normal types of materials.

Companions should not be relegated to harvesting materials for us.

Some folks refuse to allow other players to use companions for a purpose they do not approve of. None of what's being suggested by OP is mandatory. I don't even have a companion - but I also do not have any right to impose my values on what players do with their companions. Its their business, and I even see these things tethered to players all over our land/in my experience and its fine lol.

Except, not really. Resources have to be allocated to make these companion additions, resources that seem from the outside, at least to me, to be quite tight. So if you are the kind of person who wishes for companions to remain consistent to their characters and a role playing/story feature with some combat utility then you are going to resistent to the idea that they should have resources that could be allocated to furthering that role put into making them more like convenience assistants.

By all means - lobby for an assistant - for the type of person who farms resources on multiple accounts/characters but does not wish to spend time on inventory management but I cannot support changing companion function for that.

I still want to buy a fisherman from the crown store that will provide me with 200 fish per hour so I can log out at night and wake up to 12 perfect roe each day. :)<3:) Who cares about a banker, if we could have that.

I mean, at some point.... if they keep releasing companions that are just combat focused, I think it's going to be overkill and kind of a waste of the feature. I only need so many NPCs that follow me around and help kill things. Even now with the current six; after leveling them and getting their achievements, I usually don't use the majority of them since they all do the same thing at the end of the day once you no longer need them out to get their perk.

That being said, I wouldn't really need a companion that does my surveys for me and that feels like a different type of feature entirely.... but I was thinking some days ago how it'd be kind of cool to have crafting and gathering focused companions.
