Disagree button on forums.

Hello adventurers

First of all I would like to say I love this game even though it has been offline for a day!

I would like to suggest a disagree button on the forum. The only way to disagree with a post is to post a comment or jump on the LOL button. It feels incomplete!

There used to be off-topic and disagree buttons in beta, but they removed them all. I think the off-topic one was being abused and have to be removed, but I'm not sure why disagree was removed.

What he said, the disagree button was being abused so it was removed, since this isn't redit i dont think we are going to see one again.

As Seraseth said, the Disagree button was being abused. People were clicking it just to be cruel. I recommend that instead you simply post why you disagree.

I like the idea of a disagree button as you can only agree on posts at the minute, It doesn't show the true way people really feel on topics.

I once saw a disagree tag put on a post that was nothing but a question. fun times.

They should either remove the agree button or add a disagree botton.

I get that the disagree button is being abused. But the agree button has no meaning whatsoever if their is no agree/disagree ratio. Just my opinion tho!

Lets see... Bet you can... Everyone that says you CAN abuse an "Agree button" hit the "Agree" button for this post.

A disagree button is only helpful if people actually elaborate on -why- they disagree. And to do that you need to post a reply anyway. An agree button needs far less elaboration, you can simply agree with a post and nothing else needs to be said.

And yes as others have said, there used to be a disagree button but some people went around and kept disagreeing with everything someone posted, simply because they didn't like that person or thought it would be 'fun', so they removed it.

The other problem with a disagree button is that it does nothing to indicate what portion of the post one disagrees with; I assume one rarely disagrees with everything in the post. For instance, if someone presents an issue and then a proposed solution, are you disagreeing about the solution, while agreeing about the issue, or are you disagreeing about the validity of the issue.

If one assumes that one of the fundamental reasons for posting on developer forums is to provide feedback to the development staff, an agree function helps, but a disagree function (without amplification) provides ambiguous feedback (at best).

There is good reason why the forums are in the current iteration. Every single form of non positive feedback that was offered up became overtly weaponized by individuals who wanted nothing more then to harm others in some manner.
Specifically these people would begin with a debate that would end up quickly degenerating into a heated discussion over one another's ancestry and what not. To strike out, the negative feedback options would be spammed, not only for posts they found offensive but for every post that had been made by those they were disagreeing with. In many cases stacking up hundreds of negative points by a single person alone. You get a pack of such individuals together and they just feed off one another. Many different builds were put into effect and what we have now is the culmination of many months of debates over this issue.

Instead of as you say, jumping on the lol button, try instead writing out a well reasoned and articulate response and make your own case.
For all the millions of pages of codified law we have enacted in this nation alone, all of it, every word, sentence, paragraph and nuance, is steeped in the singular idea of this:

    "Be good to one another."

I want a disagree button as well, but thinking about it. Zenimax didnt just miss to make one. The tags you can make on forums are only different positives with the "lol" as a joker. I understand that.....you probebly stop pointless arguing when someone disagrees that the earth isn't a planet.

I would like a button, but I wonder, maybe that would cause more harm then these forums does good?

And Reddit, along with Allakhazan and Slashdot (the others that spring readily to mmind) are good examples of why poster-moderated forums don't work: someone posting unpopular (but in no way abusive) comments gets buried by the mob.

Turbine tried it for a year or so and abandoned it due to it being both a tool to beat down the unpopular and a tool where circle jerks allowed a small clique to get 'uber' reputation and forum standing: the whole system fell into disrepute.

Agree/Disagree is fine in a forum where people can be expected to be calm and objective .. a web forum dedicated to a game is the polar opposite of such, so 'disagree' becomes unusable. Agree is then redundant.

I've also never really understood why forums give 'pips' simply for the number of posts made either.

And this pretty much wraps this thread up.

To the inevitable, "But isn't the true same of an agree button?"
    - No, because elaboration is not required for agreement. Think about it.

I hit the agree button on this post!

When you agree, you are saying you share the same sentiment. If you wish to expand further then you have the option of commenting (as I am doing).

If you disagree you should give a reason (comment) because the reason or sentiment is not evident from the original post that you disagree with.

And besides, if we weren't forced to comment on our disagreeable positions, we wouldn't have the 100 page threads when a server is taken off-line or when someone says that Zenimax is doing a good job!

Think of all the fun we would miss then!!! :p

I think you missed the many , many times to mods came out to say they want everyone to be positive and nice to one another , they do this all the time over and over heh.

i dont mind the lack of a disagree button , i just wish people would not use the LOL button for it. Now you sum the times people thougt you were funny , with the times people didint like what you said.

This should be the answer in ESO forum FAQ. I agree completely!
Sure, I can disagree, but only pushing a button doesnt say what and if I do...can be a troll that just likes to disagree.

The OP topic is stated. You can agree with them or disagree, but then it makes sense to explain what and why you are disagreeing!
