Disagree button on forums.

As for disagreeing, someone will post that they disagree and people will agree with that. It serves the same purpose.

    I disagree with the OP.

Like in other forums (someone mentioned Lotro for example), some people abuse the system; farming reputation, flaming and trolling in hordes.

Would not surprise me if most ranked trolls here have several beta accounts with forum access that are "agreeing" with themselves. The same for the disagree type buttons.

Mom, I've won the forum game!. Quite pathetic.

If you disagree with a post it's a lot more valuable answering and saying why, unless you find the post offensive and in that case you use the report button

How is disagreeing with someone negativity? I didn't call them stupid, push them down, and then spit in their soda. I just don't share their view point.

Yes, but as has been said already countless times, it doesn't get used properly. It turns into 'forum pvp'.

You might as well remove them all then. Lol, as has been said already countless times, is already the new 'abuse' button. Remove that and it will be another one. So remove them all. Oh wait People dont mind the others because they are positive. even though there is nothing negative about a disagree it bothers people that someone might press a button.

Maybe we could get a 'Happily Disagree with your insightful master stroke of brilliance' button.

First of all I would like to say I love this game even though it has been offline for a day!

I would like to suggest a disagree button on the forum. The only way to disagree with a post is to post a comment or jump on the LOL button. It feels incomplete!

    Vontus (imperial night blade)

Keep the options positive, if you don't like what someone says, move on or ignore that poster.

Adding negative options just leaves more room for trolling, forum griefing, and mindless downvoting.

No I was referring to you calling people with criticism "bitter, infantile ex players". This would cover a wide range of people. Pretty immature imo, especially with you being bitter yourself. People obviously have a point if they are getting to you like this. I'd suggest trying to be a little more open minded and not so quick to insultingly categorize anyone who doesn't agree with you. It just shows a lot of insecurity in your position, as does this post you just made.

That isn't what I said at all, you might want to re-read what I wrote. I was specifically talking to ex-players (i.e. people no longer active, no longer truly interested in the game to the extent that they're willing to support the developers) who still come to these forums to talk trash about the game. Yes, they exist. Whether you're one of them or not, I wasn't making a judgement call on. Apparently, you seem to think you are.

This might've been said somewhere. I only lightly read through the first page.

If you don't press the "agree" button, then you ARE disagreeing with it. (or you are just indifferent which could still be said to disagree)

Ah I understand what you are saying now. Sorry, it's Friday and I'm not all here at this point haha. While if used correctly a disagree button can be helpful, you and I both know that people will use it as a way to grief people incessantly as has been done in other forums with down voting.

All you need to do is spend a couple of hours on the WoW forums to see how badly down voting and "disagree" can be used to harass players with legitimate concerns and ideas. Just because they disagreed with someone on one topic now means they will follow them thread to thread and down vote any post they make.

It's just another example of a good system in theory being destroyed by anonymity and human nature.

I'd say it's because you don't really need to add anything to agree with someone, but disagreeing without articulating your argument could be taken as (and mostly would be) trolling; something best discouraged on a forum.

Yeah that is stupid. And i can see why that would bother people. And maybe that is where our difference of opinion comes from. You have experience on a forum where it mattered and could really be used to troll someone. And the only experience i have with it is on a forum where it didn't do anything but track a number. If they added a disagree that is the only way i would want it, doing nothing.

Here is an example of an up voted forum post on the WoW forums. Note that it is highlighted and has the 'Highly Rated' designation.
    http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/7273268694

Poorly rated forum posts aren't displayed at all unless you click on the 'click to see message' link.

There are various shades that the forum messages go through as it is up or down voted. One or two or even a half dozen votes doesn't move the needle very much.

I'd be hitting the disagree button right now. I'm sure your intentions are in the right, but I'd seriously be disagreeing with 90% of the garbage on these forums. And I'm sure a bunch of people would disagree with me. To encourage a positive forum community you provide them the means of encouraging forum posters by marking their post as helpful or positive. Providing negative counters such as disagree only causes people to become disgruntled and feel unwelcome when a single post gets flag with 100 disagrees because the community decides to disagree for whatever reason, legit or not. There is absolutely no reason to have ANY negative counters on a forum, they are not productive. You only need flag as spammer or misconduct for hurtful posters, not posters you disagree with.

Its always about the rrZHZnY.gif on any forum though. The days of people using forums to generally discuss things they enjoy in common are gone. Forums are a place of irrationally attached people, quick hitters, people who need to complain and trolls.

Give that mix of people a weapon against each other and watch them all burn. Facebook used to have a dislike button, it was deemed too easy to cyber bully people and its gone now. We have to be more carrot and less stick online since people will figuratively stick you to death online without a second thought.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

I think there is enough negativity. No need to add to it. All forums are the same.

How is disagreeing with someone negativity? I didn't call them stupid, push them down, and then spit in their soda. I just don't share their view point.

    Don't play the fool.

Disagreeing by it's very definition is negative. But that is not what I meant anyway. As someone has already pointed out it would be a way for people to be abusive and harass other people.

Calling people stupid, pushing them down, and then spitting in their soda is abusive and while it is negative no one would say 'look at that bully, he is negative' it literally goes without saying.
