Would you like the ability to change your class?

Be it as a paid with gold or paid with crowns feature. I am attached to my one character I've played for quite literally years. I do not enjoy re-grinding on alts. I just want to be able to reinvent my main. I do have alts and have levelled and grinded out skill lines on them but I cannot enjoy them as I do not have the same connection to them. I really hope as apart of 2024 however unlikely maybe for the 10 year anniversary we will get the ability to change class. As all it really is are 3 skill lines. I think if we can change, appearance, race, gender, alliance then I don't think changing class is that crazy especially from a lore standpoint it would make more sense than changing race. I don't think class changing would break meta at all, I know some people will say "but that just means x class is flavour of the month due to nerfs or buffs". However you see that anyway without a class change people just play their alt which is strong for current patch. So adding a class change token wouldn't change much except give players more freedom. The only thing I can think that is preventing it is the spaghetti code but if it's just changing skill lines well we already have the ability to gain or remove skill lines like werewolf/vampire. So I do think it is entirely possible.

I have alts - lots of alts. I have zero reason to worry about changing class. Alts are my life in a game like this.... I absolutely do NOT think playing only one character is any kind of fun. My alts are legion - and they are all themselves, not just some throw away nothing.

Class change tokens have been a popular request, and I understand why.

When the MO appears to be that every now and then we get a new class as an expansion feature, it only makes sense to have a Class Change Token option.

Other games have implemented them without breaking the mold, I see no reason why this would ruin the game for anyone.

I’d rather just cherry-pick a few skills out of the other classes for my Sorc. But they aren’t all from the same class, so changing her into, say, a Templar would just mean I’d want to grab a different set of skills. 🙃

I actually would like the option of changing class for a similar reason — because likewise all my characters are themselves and I may find that a class doesn’t suit them after all (mostly an issue when I was new to the game, but I still have several such alts) or a new class may become available that suits then better.

    No for me.

In my main game, we have tokens (in store) to boost a created char straight to max level. I very much prefer this variant, mainly because for me, a char class is part of the personality I give him, and if I do something completely different, then it's a different char.

For me, a token to boost a created char straight to max is a concept that would make a lot more sense for implementation into ESO because:
    - It doesn't require a new concept. It just speeds up something existing. Implementation is a lot easier.
    - It wouldn't spoil the selling of new char slot. In fact, it would rather boost it, so for ZOS it's a better economical model (don't forget the game need money income to go further).

If I want to play another class I will use one of my other characters that I have levelled up.

Having levelled up at least one of each class, to try them out, none of the other classes have made me want to make the switch to one of them as my main instead of my DragonKnight.

Absolutely. This game is massive and if you want to do all content on 1 character you'll never have the chance to try out other 5 classes. I think what's preventing it from being added is that ZOS has already decided that they want to sell stuff to make leveling alts easier (skyshards, skill lines, etc) and class change would reduce their sales.

Just like the armor station, the ability to change class should be added into the game as a free option.

Better yet, i think all the classes should be merged into a classless system.

I like to give any class I try a full and fair shot. That means a boatload of time invested (mount training, psijic, antiquities, undaunted, FG, MG, legardemain, ...). Then sometimes, I find out that, after a full, fair shot, the class is not for me. I have several such characters that have huge time invested in them that I no longer want to play. I'm not about to create any more new characters but would gladly purchase a class change token to transition one of my unsuccessful characters into a new class.

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you all know that we do not have any plans on implementing class changes tokens at this time. There are a number of technical challenges with implementing them, and it would take a significant amount of time to solve these challenges efficiently and safely.

No, one of my favourite activities in the game is having alt toons for different classes, specs within classes, playstyles and so on... I find the process of leveling an alt quite fun, and I think nowadays it's pretty easy too (and I've never bought any skill lines or shards from the CS, because it's still decently fast without the shortcuts--though I absolutely get it if someone doesn't have a lot of time and goes that route for convenience). I wouldn't mind it if they added a token though, but I personally wouldn't use it.

I'll link to a thread I started for context:

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/642544/class-identity

In short; I have an identity in my mind for each of my characters, and their class in a part of that identity.

However, as that thread ^^^ has pointed out, perhaps classes should not be a thing in ESO at all, and the 'class' skill-lines should be able to be mixed-and-matched by players....

I don't need it for myself, as I have a toon of each class.

Voted yes nonetheless, because I think it would be a nice addition and helpful for a lot of players.

I have yet to read a reasonable argument against character change tokens tbh.

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

Most No’s in here are personal No’s for their own reasons, but I think the positive thing to do would be to give more options to the players!

Who are you to judge how someone wants to play the game? I personally would love it as I only play one character mostly and it’d be nice to switch when I get burnt out on my main to spice things up! Especially when new classes come out and I want to try it but not start absolutely everything over.

The thing is - a token wouldn’t affect anyone who didn’t want to purchase one themselves. It would just open up freedom for people who want it. So saying no is frankly silly in my opinion.

I think these posts should be made regularly as they are as it shows something that MANY players do indeed want and have not received yet. The point of the forums is to draw attention to concerns, requests, etc. ZOS may not have had plans for this a year ago or 2 years ago, but that doesn’t mean it’s something they can’t work towards - especially given how many are interested. People getting sick of these posts should keep the same energy then for posts about Necro buffs or Templar support buffs - haven’t done it yet, so might as well stop posting! Right? Of course not.

From a lore- or reality-based point of view, it makes absolutely no sense to be able to change your RACE, but not your CLASS. I mean, a particular character could decide to pursue a different skill set, but not be reborn into an entirely different race. I've never understood it. I would love to be able to change my class, and I wish they would TAKE AWAY the ability to change race. I would change my main to an Arcanist so fast it would make the annoying flappy bird's head spin.

Well, rats. That's about as hard of a "never going to happen" as you can get in this sort of format. As a programmer of 30 years, it's weird that some customer requests can be trivial to implement, and some can be absolute nightmares which make them effectively impossible, and you can't really predict which will be which. Guess this is an example of the latter. I was hoping it would be a switch that could just refund all your class skill points to be reallocated into the new trees. Bummer.

I'm not interested, characters in a role-playing game are created and then remain as they are as far as I'm concerned. A Khajiit doesn't suddenly become a High Elf, and a sorcerer doesn't suddenly become a nightblade. However, others play the game differently, I do understand that and while I'd much prefer things to remain the way they are, if we were going down that road with classes I'd prefer the ability for those who want it to max a new character rather than change the class of an existing one.

That way at least there'd be a continuing demand for extra character slots, whereas the main downside with class change tokens is that the store prices of everything else would go up to compensate for the lost revenue from character slots, skyshards, and mount training etc.

Either way, whether a token was to max a character or change its class the cost in crowns would need to be pretty high to cover the development and implementation costs as well as the lost revenue, and that would doubtless be something else for people to complain about!
