I don't understand why EU is all riled up. Do you guys not work during the day? You should miss most of it.

Doubtless some of us are at an age where we're retired. Mind you, that also means we're also at an age where we probably don't get worked up over whether or not we can get to play a computer game  !

And I have friends who are paraplegic.
Some are retired, some are service related issues.
Playing video games is one of the few things they can do that reminds them of being agile and running through fields.
Computer video games can be more important to some people than just wasting time.
There are people who use action video games as mental therapy from being physically broken.

    Look, I'm a disabled housewife.

I've been playing these games for over 20 years. They're my social life, as well.

Server maintenance happens, it's not always convenient, and it annoys me as well, but I'm not all riled up over it. And yes, I'm paying for ESO Plus. I'm also paying a subscription for FFXIV at the same time. Maintenance is in the contract. For both.

"ZeniMax does not guarantee that any Services will be accessible or available at all times, in all countries and/or all geographic locations, at any given time, or that ZeniMax will continue to offer any particular Services for any particular length of time. Except as prohibited by applicable law and subject to the Statutory Obligations (as defined in Section 1), ZeniMax reserves the right to change and/or update Content without notice to You."

They don't even need to tell you the servers are going down for maintenance. Some people seem to think that paying a subscription entitles them to on demand access to the servers. It does not. It does not in any other MMORPG with a subscription model either.

MOST people will be working during most of the downtime. That's why they pick the times they do. Least traffic = a good time to do maintenance. They're not trying to spite people. Find something else to do. Read a book, troll reddit, watch a movie on the couch... maybe even spend quality time with the family, idk. You'll survive.

Good post. Definitely feel this sort of perspective is needed around here.

Indeed there are, and there's more than one game available.

So some of us have shift work. Or other than "typical" hours. So...

It’s amazing how many people out there just assume everyone works 9-5. I haven’t worked a traditional 9-5 job in over a decade! Shift workers like us represent a significant proportion of the workforce.

    Yeah, exactly..
Everyone assumes that everyone in the EU has an 8 hour work day 8-16 / 9-17 and that every schoolchild has to be in school.
There are many reasons why people are at home in the EU and the constant taunts that it doesn't affect you (EU), you are supposed to be at work or school is a joke.

Tbh I've never worked anything other than shift work :D

I live in the EU. I live in Sweden.

Shift work isn't quite so common here as it is in other places, the unions insist on shutting things down at night. You find it in hospitals and the like, but factories and stuff, many of those shut down, too.

And every school aged child needs to be in school, homeschooling is illegal here. There is no public holiday today here.

As I've just posted above, it literally does NOT affect you any more than it does NA. You'll survive without the game. There's also a pretty sizeable(larger than here) population there that's unemployed as well, and the service will be down all morning.

If anyone generally gets screwed, it's the poor Aussies.

Yeah agree my workplace is open 24 hours, 7 days a week and a shift can be anytime as can a day off.

I get that maintenance is required but a little transparency wouldn't go a miss. Relationship between the players and ZoS is at an all time low so a little “we’re fixing this, we’re fixing that” would go a long way. This is an abnormally long maintenance session so naturally we’re gonna be a bit peeved especially seeing how it’s lasting the whole day for EU

Look, I don't like it either, but it isn't as though ZOS does maintenance solely to annoy players. If it wasn't necessary they wouldn't be doing it. Regardless whether we pay or not, maintenance is a necessary evil and something we just have to put up with.

Nothing wrong with venting, I get it, but it isn't as though they can just stop doing maintenance.

Yes, it was originally scheduled to end at 12pm EST. Interesting that there’s no mention anywhere of it being extended.

I am a bit bummed to lose out on what little available time I had to play ESO this week, as I’m working 24 hours out of the next 48 and will only have enough time to do crafting writs… oh well, though, as I said earlier, not being subscribed to ESO+ does lessen the sting of these frequent and lengthy maintenances.

"Hi all! We wanted to provide an update regarding today's extended maintenance on all megaservers. This maintenance is related to upgrading some of our network devices. These are upgrades to the previously completed hardware migration work from earlier this year. As a reminder we also highlighted an extension to the Gates of Oblivion Celebration Event."

Edit: Thank you ZOS for extending the event one day!
The original point of this thread is solved, no need to keep complaining about it. :)

Normally I don't complain over maintenance on the last day of an event, since there's usually enough time to quickly get the last tickets. But this time, maintenance is scheduled to begin 1hour before the reset on the NA server, and end 2 hours after the event ends. So, unless maintenance is more than 2 hours faster than scheduled, it's literally completely impossible to get the last event tickets on the NA server.

Would it be possible to move maintenance 1 day, preferably to wednesday, or monday?

(All of this under the condition I calculated correctly. If not, please let me know :D )

Lucky you can still get the "last" fake-day tickets on the NA server usually. In mainland Europa the last day starts and ends during working hours: 07:00-15:00 summer time and 08:00-16:00 winter time xD

Good they extended the event though. Can we also get 14 ticket slots now? ^^

thank you, i of course understand the necessity, im nearly at 5k hours spent in this game. My reasoning for venting is purely customer rights. i know its in their contract and im not saying otherwise, this is just "not cool" if you will.
I don't like the fact that people needed to complain for them to extend the event.
+I don't like the fact tha they just released an explanation after many people complained here.

If you see your pizza place say they are delivering in between 20-45 minutes and it arrived exactly at 45 minutes are you satisfied? they are legally in right of couse, and i understand that they do what they need to do, that doesn't make me a happy customer.

Well, you are lucky then because that is one of the perks of working shifting hours^^. Though it isn't needed to be grumpy if someone complains about the last day being during working hours. Nobody assumes just everyone works 8-16. Most people still work during office hours, making it a valid complaint.

Yes, there are major industries working shift times: like in vital services as hospital/police or in things like road/railway construction. Other shift jobs are mainly for students like pubs, for ex-cons like gas station or are niche industries like working in the power plant. It doesn't change the fact that most people still work during classic working hours. Europa has the biggest population in ESO, and most of them will never be able to get the ticket during the last fake day.

I hope you understand this will always feel a bit annoying, even if it's not the end of the world (at least for me). Unfortunately, this will always be a problem somewhere in the world unless ZOS decides to make the last event day also a 24 hour day (between the standard reset times)..

The only thing is that it isn't really right, at least in Europa. According to European law a company has to provide permanent access if someone pays for 30 days. The sentence that they cannot guarantee doesn't apply here (local law). Paying customers are actually entitled to on demand access to the servers xD

Anyway, of course no big company works like this and because it is always about minor stuff like this today nobody really cares. It also isn't the end of the world for us as customers either.

It is only slightly annoying that Europa always gets the extended maintenance during primetime and the server will now go online after most people went to bed, making them miss the day (and the last fake day tomorrow is during working hours).

This is an 'entertainment service' we are paying for, so while it might seem we're complaining about something trivial, I don't think the complaints are unjustified.
Other games manage to schedule maintenance for times when very few players are online, i.e. early morning (1am onwards local time).
I've played 4 MMOs including ESO and ESO is the only one to regularly schedule maintenance during the day. This game also seems to need a lot more maintenance than any of the others, despite 2 being of a similar age.

If maintenance was less frequent or if they scheduled it for a less disruptive time, it would be a lot less irritating. As it is, we have the worst of both worlds.
