[Nightblade] Grim Focus and Morphs perpetual red glow

I like the glow, being able to change the color of it and turn it off and on would be nice features.

As of today's PTS patch, this problem still exists. While it has been stated that this change is intentional, the various downsides, bugs and side effects outlined in this thread here make it obvious it isn't:

@ZOS_GinaBruno As stated a week ago and a dozen times before, this 'Improved Communication' is still sorely unimproved, and the problem persists in silence.

This is not going to go away, and it's costing ZOS money, and will continue to do so.

I have just read that some weapon styles with visual effects have had their descriptions updated.

Good luck getting a refund. I have asked for one on an arms pack I purchased, which now looks different from it's original form due to the permaglow.
My request was denied.
I'd be interested to know if it now has a different description in the crown store compared to when I bought it.

Not admitting that this is a bug that will be fixed, or just reverting the entirety of the rework of Grim Focus, is disingenuous or just extremely poor quality. What other skill so alters your character’s appearance just for slotting it? I am not aware of one. I may use an activated ability that I don’t like the appearance of because at least it’s temporary!

The Arcanist’s various glows are done much more artfully and even they are upon activation. This horrid red glow that illuminates the back of your character’s eyeballs is CLEARLY meant to be a temporary in-combat cue for countering in PvP — where clarity / visibility matter and matching the shape of the weapon does not.

The skill should have been left as it was if this side effect was unavoidable. People who would like glowing weapons deserve a better done effect and surely many would want it to also be visible to others.

1) The effect does not inform the player of any ability status as it is constant.
2) The effect does not inform PvP counterplay.
3) The effect is low quality visually (very strong glow, does not match weapon shape).
4) The effect means the ability cannot be used if the player wants to see weapon styles they paid for or otherwise doesn’t appreciate the constant irradiated look.

Destroyed? What do you mean? Templar was destroy with U35, Necro was destroyed with Harmony nerf. But nightblade got buff and buff over years. How is NB destroyed? I don't understand, do you mean pvp gameplay? PvE? Visual?

Red permaglow annoys a lot of people (including myself). So, when out of combat we have to unslot the skill.

I'm convinced ZOS is aware, they just don't have a fix yet.

There was a mod from another NB thread like this that closed it and specified the reason as something along the lines of "This discussion about NB's Grim Focus Glow is active in other threads".

Now I know the mods aren't devs, but I can't help but feel they must relay some information to the dev team when asked what the buzz is on the forums. The devs don't have time for that, but mods do, they're reading all our comments.

They could revert the entire change to Grim Focus.
They could at least acknowledge that this effect was unintended and they are looking into a way to fix.
I have no idea why the changes to the skill went live this way, but either one of the above would make me feel a lot better, continue to develop NB characters I wanted to work toward higher level DPS on, and make me more inclined to buy those overpriced cosmetics because I do care very much how my characters look!

As a cynical Sorcerer, I don’t have any sympathy.

I would happily have a purple perma glow if I could have an OP skill that only continues getting buffed. Our bound armaments are useless. Provide very little damage buff and it is timed at that.

NB’s have dominated the PvP scene since the game was released. The Sorcerer’s skill set continues to be bottom tier. Combat mechanics are the core of the game, not cosmetics.

People act like this is the end of the world when Sorcerers have been begging for improvements for years. Dev’s don’t listen and it doesn’t seem like players care.

Players would maybe care more if the other players would be more empathic and less cynical. You can post a thread about any game topic besides housing and within 5 minutes the holy trinity of the official sorc forum representation team will find a way to make it about their class. I genuinely want sorcs to have as much of a good time as other classes. It is not the fault of the other players if the devs are doing a poor job with handling player feedback. There seems to be a large majority that dislikes the cosmetic change and reverting it doesn't even impact balancing. If you can't even let other players have that...then this is exactly the correct place to be! Thrive in the endless flood of uninformed and unproductive discussions or be swept away by frustration.

SORC: i can’t stay alive or kill much in pvp but my weapons can be customized

honestly, cosmetics are the bottom of the list of priorities.

i’m sure they will be fixed well before requests made by sorcs. NB is the class that is constantly being fine tuned relative to others.

I'm as cynical as the next Sorc and I can joke about how annoying it is we can't see our characters in combat because of Lightning Form since launch.. but a bug is a bug, and bugs should be fixed. Has nothing to do with favouritism or class balance

That being said, some players talking about this are really overdramatic. You don't deserve a refund for something you spent 4000 hours in and purchased the base game of 7 years ago, I'm sorry, thats not how it works.

I hope it's fixed, it should be fixed.

There is absolutely no reason to create a false dichotomy or animosity. All classes should have multiple ways to play and no changes put through that create bugs either mechanical or visual. For context, I’ve created a number of nightblade characters because I like the class aesthetics, but sorc and templar are the classes I’ve put the most time into learning and doing group content. In the case of sorc, it’s the class I parse highest on, completed vMA with, tank vet trials, and do PvP on — so don’t think I don’t care about sorc! This is not the place to get into my frustrations with and desires for that class, but no, I absolutely wouldn’t take a distractingly hideous constant effect tied a necessary or even OP skill. No way. And yes, speaking of which, having pets as an option is cool but I hate that that’s the only way to top DPS or really heal on a sorc.

My collection of characters who only craft or do casual overworld is growing… but they’ll look good doing it, damnit!

I agree and suspect that most people feel the same, but are desperate to find some way to express this in a way that ZOS will care about. Even if ZOS offered me a refund for the weapons styles I bought for my NB (I haven’t filed such a ticket myself) that isn’t really what I want. I just want them to fix this obvious bug, even reverting the skill to how it was before would be fine.

As much as I love the new functionality of the skill, if I had a choice between keeping the functionality, or having it reverted in order to lose the glow, I would choose to have it reverted. But I hope they find some way to rework the skill so the glow isn’t permanent because like I said, I do love the new functionality.

Not everyone has the same priorities. Magsorc is actually my main PvP char, so I feel your pain. But my nightblade is my main in everything else, and any hopes of taking her back to PvP are pretty much done now because I absolutely refuse to slot Grim Focus while I look like a red torchbug.

It irritates me immensely even when I'm just standing in front of the bank, to the point that I'm not even making it to serious content before it makes my skin crawl and I take it off.

Visuals are important. Preexisting visuals more so.

Standard zos, the only time they make a response is when they:

That's about it, everything else is an exception. Super active threads can go months on end without someone actually from the zos team saying something.

I am definitely going to start requesting refunds on all of my arms packs as I can't use then anymore.
