Zos, this needs to stop. Some old threads are still relevant.

There is no reason to shut down discussions like this. The issue is still present. I keep seeing this with lots of threads that still have very relevant info to this day, even from 2016. Moderators need to actually read the content before saying "this is old, irrelevant information. Closed."

Old posts should be closed and not necro'd. The last post was almost 3 years old.

I agree the issue is very much still relevant but that doesnt make bringing old posts back beneficial. If there is relevant info it can be linked or quoted in a new post/discussion.

Old posts especially ones years old can have outdated info and opinions that may have changed over that time period. Even if the topic is still very much relevant. Not to mention having to go back and read pages of old discussions is not likely for most and they just add their opinions based on the title.

A new post that references the old post and reignites the discussion is always a better way to make a point or update information.

Idk I kind of agree with the OP on this one.

Continuing a thread that is still relevant shows that there has been longstanding support for an issue. One thread with 200 responses shows that better than many different threads on the same topic with one or two responses.

Plus, people often reply to even new threads without reading anything but the title and maybe the opening post. I feel like it has to do with the type of poster, not the length of the post.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

I think there are some exceptions, like player guides, where it doesn't make sense to close the thread due to age. However, most such threads should be closed because it may contain outdated information or opinions.

I know I have changed my mind on some things over the years.

It’s incumbent on them to tell us what’s out of date. Most of the ones I’ve seen lately are fairly evergreen and just got necro’d. I really think they should auto close after any way, since it seems like only timestamps are actually being compared.

I think they didn't want a hard rule but they mentioned over a year old as a good example of a thread that will be closed. Auto-closed threads ruin guides and creative content.

I agree, and closing threads on living topics ruins discussions. I remember that discussion, but I don't see any discretion coming out of it when closing threads. So, for me, it's like either just auto-close or start using discretion when closing are the two options. Auto-close seems like the one that's most doable.

The following topics were still relevant:

Best example below. This was a LORE discussion:

There's no new Daedric princes to my knowledge.

Bumping old threads (that are over 6 months old) is considered spamming and annoying to some people. It's also against the rules. I honestly prefer that old threads get locked or closed after a certain amount of time of being inactive.

The conversation from a closed discussion can still happen once one creates a new thread about it.

Well, no, but a person may have changed their mind about which is the best Daedric prince since then. Perhaps all this Hermaeus Mora hype has made them come to appreciate him more, for example. A thread should be both relevant, and have a good reason as to why it being old shouldn't matter to remain open besides just it being still relevant imo. Guides and creative collections are good examples, as creators of those items may need to revise them at any time. Or people may want to contribute their creations to other's creations, like the fashion thread being a large collaboration. Bugs would be another good example.

Threads meant to discuss opinions on an issue or threads where players asked questions are good examples of threads that should be closed IMO. A player may not want to constantly play host to everyone that has the same question or people's opinions may change. Instead, people can link those back to the old ones.

I agree with the OP but at the same time, I can see why the threads were closed.

My suggestion is: You find an old thread that is still relevant today, start a new topic about it, and in your OP post link the old thread and just be like "I wanted to continue this discussion since it's still an issue..."

You can get in trouble recreating old posts too. There's no way to win in this situation.
