The horrendous Arcanist effects....

I just watched a bunch of videos of the Arcanist on PTS and feels like it's the dumbest thing ever created in Elder Scrolls universe. How could this happen? Will Elder Scrolls VI be infested with laser beams too? What's happening to Elder Scrolls?

It's so disappointing, so intrusive, so horrendous, so noisy, that I'm starting to lose interest in this next chapter. I've seen all skills already and it's all excessive, it all looks like an arcade game. They should at least give us some skills more discreet with no dumb green lasers, so we have different choices.

What can we expect at this point? Is there still any chance to see those dumb green lights removed on the final release?

Just watch this example: https://youtu.be/W61Q7uYcc-o Looks like Tron on acids.

Maybe it's just me then. I never enjoyed this kind of arcade game effects and I wasn't expecting to see this on an Elder Scrolls game. This game is definitely changing and I'm much more into RPG and adventure. I enjoy some action but not with all this noise. Not at all. I never would have started playing this if I saw this whole bunch of noise and laser effects 9 years ago.

I'm afraid that this game will hardly recover from this update 38. This is too much out place.

I think the class looks awesome. The skills are flashy but I kind of like them. But I will say the beams are a bit much. Not a fan of them honestly but I can overlook it. I hope this means ZOS will visit the older classes and update the visuals for them as well. Looking at Sorc pets and werewolf skins.

The graphical style of ESO has taken a more in your face approach as of late. I assume this is to attract new players to the new shiniest toys. The main eyesore to me are these new super flashy explosive mounts. Not a fan, so I can understand your concern.

I never enjoyed the Sorc pets too but it was never a problem to me because we can perfectly do good builds without pets. Even on Warden I don't usually use the bear, I have other choices. From what I see of this horrible class the choices are noisy green laser beams or noise green laser beams. [Snip]

I'm curious to know how many that commented here have actually PLAYED the Arcanist? Because I keep hearing "that looks"... but looks and actual use are two different things. Things can LOOK awesome when viewed in a video, but I've heard of a LOT of people actually playing the class and are hating the visuals, especially the 'crux' runes revolving around the character which create a massive visual distraction and cannot be turned off.

My only issue is how ''thick'' and heavy the skills look, the large circle AOE for example. Like globs of lard instead of soup broth. They look painted onto the world and not organic. It is otherworldly magic, yeah, but I don't think a painted-on look represents that concept fittingly.

I think the sounds are good and suit the concept and would come across better if the visuals were integrated better.

edit: actually upon looking at the skills again, some of the sounds are good, but the ones that have that sci-fi computer screen button press tinkling noise are very out of place IMO.

Making the lines and stuff softer, lowering the brightness of the colors a bit, would probably do the trick. I also think some more color variation wouldn't hurt. There are some non-lime green colors in some of the skills but a bit more would make the overall visual less overbearing, while still keeping an overall light green color scheme.

I'm now using an one bar heavy attack build I've done. It's not as strong as the popular pet builds, but (for me) it's way funnier to play and I already complete many times both maelstrom and vateshran vet arenas with it. Most people don't like oakensoul builds but if you are interested in test it send me a message and I'll put it in eso-skillfactory for you this week. :)

I don't understand this post at all.
Skyrim has some of the loudest spells I've heard in gaming. There are already a bunch of "dumb" laser beams in ESO. And there are already a ton of equally flashy abilities for players and enemies in the game.

Maybe it due to most shots of the new class are shown in the purpled hued landscape where the green stands out a bit more?

Just because there are already super flashy Vfx in ESO doesn't mean adding even more of them is ok by any means. So far, no class had such obnoxious Vfx and unavoidable Vfx.

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
        • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
        • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

In Skyrim you would play by yourself, you did not gather 12 people who cast those abilities while you have overlapping AOE telegraphs on the ground that you need to see to be able to avoid. What is perfectly suitable for a single player game is not a great option for a mass multiplayer game.

I don't recall spells like that from Morrowind. The most Morrowind-looking ability is Healing Ward imo.

Everything is just too green, and too bright. Not by much. Reducing brightness and saturation by 10-20% would already help a lot, without sacrificing the theme of the visuals.
It's just that compared to the rest of the game, it's that little bit too much. It stands out in a way that normal class abilities usually don't, for good reason.

There's good UI science behind it too - your brain processes static and moving things differently so if you are creeping through a dungeon waiting for a hunger or similar ot leap out it's *much* harder to play when the movement part of your brain is continually bombed by rotating glyphs.

Hopefully they can add an option in the menu to dim other players green effects.

Honestly it's not just the greens. Some morphs have other colors as well, e.g. purple, and it's just as saturated and bright as the greens.

While I might have preferred black, like the tentacles, really all that has to be done is to mute the effects a bit. I don't think it's too much to ask.
The high saturation doesn't say "Eldritch unknowable God of mysteries" to me, it says Romulan space disruptor pistol.

Vivec: Worse, buddy. They're buying it.

The computer hacking tinkle noises on some of the skills don't convey that to me either. They are very weird to me. The deeper sounds are more fitting.

Gonna have to change the color of my friendly aoe effects to something other than green (default)... Because the Arcanist's skills are so excessively flashy and green...

🤮 wow, I feel like I’ll be playing a 90’s arcade game crossed with WoW. How they landed on this, or really any of the changes in the last 12 months is beyond me …

I like it. I feel like it's a bit too flashy though, and you might have trouble following some visual ques. For example, the Crux system is great! But it's also green, and can get lost in a sea of green. Thankfully the skills on your skill bar glow when you have max Crux, bit it could be a different color to make it easier to see among all the green effects. It's probably fine, but it's just a lot of visual stimulation at once when you're doing your rotation.

I think it looks very bad. Not only does it not support the player in getting valuable info what's going on in the game, it actively hides valuable information from other sources on the screen. This is a 101 example on how not to design FX.
Maybe the marketing department found out that cyberpunk stuff is trending right now and this is what the FX creators were ordered to do.

I'm sure I'll get used to the green in time, but it also seemed a strange colour choice to me since we just had a chapter where the "nature" Bretons were using an equally bright green for nature!

I get that it's a colour not used for a class skill yet (as I remember one of the devs mentioning in the reveal presentation), but if this has been in development for 2 years I was surprised at such similarities .. perhaps I would have expected a brown tinge to the nature magic or something :P

I suppose we have to trust the artists involved, but I do wonder what colour will win out for the favourable aoe colours, maybe going to a neony yellow/green for the good warning colour?

Fix should be to add UI toggle to dissable other arcanists visual FX.

I still need to test it myself but it does seem a bit OTT from vids and screens

I really enjoy the look of the animations. I've been on the pts playing with the Arcanist in person, and the animations look and feel really crisp and they weave well.
