Heavy attack builds will be excluded from new trial on vet well done zos ;)

The upcoming changes to empower and storm master nerf will make it much tougher to achieve high dps numbers results in exclusion from upcoming vet trial. ZOS why do this ? I hope light attack been nerfed also so its fair.

Take note heavy attack users new chapter doesnt want you.

Sure could run noble duelist but thats close range resulting in less appeal, will be interesting to see if you can even pull above 80k.

the nerf's not that big, it'll still be viable for vet content.

also, i agree that HA builds shouldn't perform equally to or outperform LA builds that use complicated rotations and bar-swapping

I understand that everyone has different preferences and play styles, but I am hopeful that the developers can find a way to address the issue. I would like to continue enjoying this game and I believe that a constructive solution can be found. Sadly clock is running and june 6, is not to far.

The good news is that groups who would refuse Oaken HA builds for the new expansion already would not accept you in the live game so your options have not actually dwindled.

The Oakensoul vs non-Oakensoul idiocy is some of the most absurd and contrived drama in ESO.

If player x's play style gets nerfed, big or small, they're probably going to complain or voice something about it - this is a tale as told as ESO.

It takes a special kind of person to take those complaints personally, especially when it doesn't even affect their individual playstyle.

empower went from 80% to 70%
    not that bad.

the storm masters cooldown is 5 seconds instead of 10 seconds so whilst yes the effect is shorter the cooldown is also shorter which seems fine.

i use oakensoul too and i love heavy attack builds, however i don't feel excluded from Necrom/update 38. and i don't completely understand what's wrong

So if light attack builds got a 20 perecent nerf and had a 15k dps loss overall you would be happy because its still manages all vet content ? Fire away

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this feels like more of a nerf at the high end than otherwise.

Why? Because Storm Master got hammered, and Storm Master is a set to use in a group where light armor overpenetrates.

Yes, the nerf to Storm Master is bigger for players like me, who duo, don't get Warhorns, and aguablyably shouldn't run Thief and/or Precise at all. But we also don't overpenetrate wearing light armor, and probably shouldn't be running a medium armor set like Storm Master in the first place.

Otherwise, the Empower nerf is no big deal -- unless perhaps you're playing at a level where 5% to DPS is a big deal.

Storm Master uptime got gutted pretty significantly. Parsing with 81% compared to 98% on scribes. (which will also be way worse in trial with mechanics), that is the worst nerf to HA.

Passives seem all broken right now so can't do any true tests, but I have HA on Necrom PTS at 90k Vs. 103k on Scribes.

You need to land a fully charged HA (2.1s) within a 3s window and crit with it.

You would need 100% crit chance in order to keep the buff up.

The groups that can provide the buffs required to reach high crit chance are unlikely to welcome a HA player in their ranks.

Realistically most people currently running SM on live are doing so well below that threshold.

In the most common usage scenarios this set will be dead on the water if it goes live like this.

Light attacks lost empower buff and then in last patch their damage was capped. That is up to 50% DPS drop from light attacks between 2022 and 2023. No meltdowns during that time.

Meanwhile this thread created just few hours after PTS notes complains about 10% dmg loss and nerf to one of the sets after previously getting 40% dmg buff (empower went from 40 to 80%) and a mythic item perfectly suited to support heavy attack rotation.

    Kinda ironic.

Storm Master is arguably overnerfed and probably just could have been left alone, but Empower needed to be nerfed.

Oakensorc HA showed themselves too well for basically all content - on live, frankly, it does too much damage for how much effort it takes, flat out. This combined with the fact that they have 25k resists, infinite sustain, 30k health with full undaunted passives and are fully ranged, means they perform much, much better in content than what you'd assume from just looking at one.

I did a couple of parses on a one bar heavy attack Sorc as I run it in vet content (e.g.. matriarch instead of tormentor). My DPS dropped from 91K to just under 81K. Up time on Stormmaster went from 100% to ranging between 74 to 82%. It's not the end of the world, but it is a clear signal from ZOS.

Guild chat is already pretty quiet when someone asks for help getting a DLC monster helm or achievement. Our vet prog group already struggles to get enough people to run a trial on Friday nights. But hey, further excluding people from content is good for the game, right?

Try noble duellist instead of storm master. Or any of the other many sets that increase your HA damage.

Stuff gets nerfed for everyone all the time. You need to check if it's really a big deal or if it's just a slight meta shift.

I swear Oakensoul players are starting to become the most entitled players in this game. You're lucky ZoS didn't do the usual sledgehammer approach and do a 33% or 66% nerf as they usually do.

Adjust or move on like every other player who had to deal with a nerf in this game. You're not special.

Fun part, those of us who have builds that used heavy attacks, 18 months ago, prior to Oakensoul, and were getting the same damage and treatment as oakensoul players didn't lose anything with the nerf.....

Honestly, you can do a heavy attack build without Oakensoul, and pay less attention to mechanics..... one button, and same damage range.... you do lose the aegis, and free ultimate regen.... but that isn't all that necessary....

My one-bar heavy attack arcanist begs to differ. I never liked that storm master was a medium set, so my one-bar setups typically use sergeant's mail and infallible aether.

My parse with an arcanist heavy attack setup is where it should be in relation to my templar's parse. I was also able to clear vMA with some slip-ups.

Overall, the only nerf that was relevant to me was the slight nerf to empower. Heavy attack builds will still be strong in vet content.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).
