If Zos gave me a developer for a year, I would....

.... ask them to:

Let me change the appearance of my pet
AI for the NPCs
Enable the world to change over time (trees grow, new NPCs in towns, town development)
New abilities not new sets

....

So, now you go. But don't just say fix pvp, new server, de-bugg, roll back 35.... because that's a given.

One developer wouldn't be able to do that in a year. World change is likely to be impossible at all, because it would create an incredibly fragmented world where every stage of tree growth would create another instance.

Also, a single dev wouldn't be able to do much, because in a big product changes must be approved and coordinated.

I'd rephrase your question as "what changes would you like to see, even if they are technically impossible"

And if I were given a dev to order around, I'd ask instead to have someone who can approve code changes on a higher level and would have them sit down and plan code refactoring so that adding a butterfly on Bleakrock wouldn't break a boss mechanic in Cloudrest. For starters.

    P. S. it's "debug". One word, one "g".

    Hmmm.
Roll back 35. Adjust Cyrodil a wee bit, mostly lag issues, perhaps look into 3rd morphs for abilities that can be of more worth in PvP (we all know that everyone enjoys new things, just not every three months), perhaps balance them so as to not be truely degenerate. Add a non PvP instance of cyro and imp city to appease the questers who want to explore the darn thing (perhaps add in a few more quest lines to accomodate this).
Make a PvP instance of Craglorn and High isle 👀
Resource grab/ capture flags sorta thing, not keeps.
Canoes. Yes. Canoes!!!! So we can go boating!!!!
(Be warned, slaughter fish are not the only nasties of the waters, just the most irritating, maybe a timer showing how long you got before something grabs you).

Khajitii martial arts. Bare fist style, maybe some knuckle dusters or claws as items.
4th skill line for classes (yes, I want this).
Turn vampire into an ulti much like werewolf, give it skills and passives fitting of such a creature, feed to keep up your transformation, this means vamps get vampire + 2 morphs of the ulti to choose an archetype…... Further: expand the skill lines for werewolf (and the new vamp), so much potential, so much wasted :(

Remove open world PVP and make Cyro an adventure zone like craglorn. BGs can stay. Make IC and Sewers a regular pve zone dlc. I'd also make it so every class can only do one role. Like Wardens can only heal. Nightblades are damage dealers. I'd add a trial finder. I'd also add a mini map to the game natively.

If I somehow had the ability to wish things into the game, I'd probably go with:

    1. Enable an optional minimap in the game.
    2. Enable an optional (opt out by default) DPS meter in game
    3. Enable an addon similar to Codes Combat Alerts into the game.

All 3 of these are what I'd consider accessibility improvements and you don't have to touch combat in order to implement them.

After that, I'd prioritize a good solid set of tutorials aimed at helping new players learn the skills they need to handle greater challenges ahead of them. I'd set it up as either a daily or weekly quest that tasks you with a combat related challenge. You step into a solo instance similar to an arena and are set to perform tasks such as, kill this mob, block this oncoming attack, taunt multiple mobs and hold them in place, heal a target with multiple dots on them, achieve X dps on a specific target dummy, etc. The challenges range from very simple, to things that even veteran players can use to stay sharp. The reward for this daily should be exceptionally good to encourage all players to come back every day. Perhaps gold materials, furnishing mats, rare recipes and more.

While putting those things in order, I'd focus on cleaning up long standing bugs as well as provide a known issues list which is kept up to date so players know that the devs are aware of certain issues and if there is a timeframe for a potential fix.

Developers can't be the ones making the decisions on the sets. Even they should be able to see how unbalanced they are. No, they are probably making the code exactly how someone is telling them to make it. As that is what their job is. Something just doesn't sit right with me that they changed jabs to put 50% movement reduction on EVERY jab. Then release a set like mara's balm. Instead of just letting it last 1 second on the first hit. That 50% speed reduction doesn't make it easier to get people with jabs. It's the reason why I don't even use jabs anymore. Jabs is reduced by evasion. Then having the damage essentially halved by mara's balm. This WAS a set up.

++, (1 second, or on final jab), -- is all you need. Yet they deliberately placed it on every single jab.

Have the chapter and Q4 content be Craglornesque adventure zones. The chapter will have group content littered throughout the zone, soloable group instances, soloable group delves, world bosses, world events, three trials, an arena, and a general story that can be cleared solo.

Q4 would have more world bosses, at least 1 soloable group delve, and a mini-trial.

The next year can go back to being baby's first casual tutorial level nonsense. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy steamrolling through content, but sometimes it's nice to have a bit more of a challenge.

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

    Fix PvP

By balancing the Hammer, adding new weapons alongside the hammer, reintroduce destroying towers on resources but make them neutral like milegates, make it so multiple dolmens can be active in the zone instead of 1, fix the camera angle on the Lancer to be like the Ballista, change all the zerg busting sets to no longer zerg bust (it's a horrible idea to make nuke sets that scale on the number of attackers, let's just accept this and move on.) Change up battle spirit to target excessive cross healing, and much more.

I'd submit a proposal to pull together a team to go over the code that's been spaghettified over the years, rewrite it without the bugs (using a team of real players to test the issues), add in some QoL stuff that PC players have already developed as addons (and probably hire the addon developers as temp consultants with game credit), and eventually rerelease the game as a "Digitally Remastered" version. Probably throw in a limited edition house and furnishing style to sweeten the deal and give people a reason to buy the upgrade while also keeping the shareholders from flipping out at the expenditure.

Then I'd take it back to a sub only game, so the staff actually has to keep people happy in order to keep making money. No subs means they can do whatever they want without fear of losing a main source of income and the players have no leverage. I'd also get rid of Crown Crates and start making better cosmetics/mounts/pets available in-game with the crown store aimed at offering upgrades more than items.

The first step for me would be to look at the data for what people are actually doing in game.

All of my views come from limited sources of information which could mean that my views on things are wrong.

ZOS's data would likely be able to show if I am right or wrong and which avenues would be most promising to pursue.

You'd also ram into the question of resources/timing.

I'd assume in many areas more resources are going into the Q4 DLC and the next Chapter than into anything regarding the shorter term stuff.

I would take that developer away from you so fast, you wouldn't even notice you had one.

Change the appearance of your pet? Really? Are you from the future where they fixed all the actual problems?

If ESO wants to survive into the next ten years, given the new games coming, it needs transformative change.

A world that can change, NPCs with ai so they do a range of things, dynamic pets, maybe that would all be pretty great; new skills, classes; and I was wondering what else.

Fixing immediate issues are critical for this and next year, and the next, but won't keep it alive for another ten years.
