Why exactly did these need to be changed?

Aren't there more obvious things that could be fixed... The Timbercrow nappy for one.

I never really like the original jabs/sweeps animation. It looked like a low res gold stick that your character spazzed out with. The new one looks like a actually holy spear and feels like it should hit hard. More realistic thrusting motion. Flurry is strange. Could of been better as I didn't like the old one either especially when you are using axes and you just... stab the blunt not lethal top of the axe into the enemy. Should of given it more OOMPH
Push Posh Applesauce, Pocket Full of Marmalade.

As a melee ranged magplar... my life is despair. I can't even stand to login.

#savejabs. Please bring back the old animation. Please match the animations of the Aedric spear abilities again.

I like the new animation on jabs, however I find myself wondering why the thought it was a good idea to change any of the animations at all. I just don't see why they felt the need to pour resources into this, when the old animations were fine as they were. This is coming from someone who genuinely LIKES the jabs animation. There were just...better things they could have done.

Exactly this. AT BEST they took a good animation and replaced it with another equally good animation. Why? What's the point? How is this worthwhile?

In reality, the clear majority opinion is that they took a good animation and wasted a bunch of time changing it to a horrible animation. That's doubly bad. A completely baffling and unexplainable waste all around.

Just change it back. At least give us that. The skill barely does damage now. At least don't make it ugly.

New jabs looks bad. Like BDO style. I think, zos need change jabs appearance again or back old style. And animation looks like a shovel. It is very bad. :s

I have to agree. I played with my templar for quite a while yesterday to see how the skill performed and how I felt about the animation itself. While there are aspects of the new animation I genuinely like, there are other parts I find myself quite "meh" about. For one thing, I'm not thrilled with the re-use of a motif for a skill. [snip] and I hate that the spear head is so gigantic. If they were going to make the skill look more like a defined spear, then they should have created something entirely new that was especially for the templar to make them unique, just as the previous animation was unique. I don't like the fact that they rather [snip] reused a motif that isn't even lore-appropriate for the class. I'm not even a stickler for the lore, and I dislike it.

That, and the skill just doesn't even feel like part of the templars skill set any more. All of the other skills the templar has still largely resemble the old animation, where you are essentially manifesting a shard of light vaguely shaped like a spear. This new animation is jarringly out of place among the congruent feel of the older animations and just doesn't feel like a part of them.

With that being said, I could get USED to the new animation, I rather enjoyed it as I was playing in spite of the things I dislike about it. But I have to say, it's not well done, feels floaty, doesn't align with either the audio or the length of the skill itself, and is generally sloppy feeling compared to the older animation which was more refined.

I just feel like it was a bad decision to change something so nostalgic to templar players as the jab animation, which is one of the defining skills in the class set. I'd personally like to have the old animations back, but I can live with the new animations too.

    Legends never die
    They're written down in eternity
But you'll never see the price it costs
The scars collected all their lives
When everything's lost, they pick up their hearts and avenge defeat
Before it all starts, they suffer through harm just to touch a dream
    Oh, pick yourself up, 'cause
    Legends never die

I still have not seen an explanation from any ZOS representative as to why these animations needed changing in the first place.

They decided to "fix" something that wasn't broken, and in doing so, broke it.

Agree ENTIRELY.. The new animations look like someone stuck their staff in an electric socket. Jabs looks like they mistook the staff for a SHOVEL. Please make these A LOT less ugly, cartoon-y, or change them back.

The explanation will be because they removed a hit they "had" to completely revamp the animations.

I couldn't explain the jab-twist-jab my Templar was doing. Thank you to whomever described it as shoveling THAT is what it is! And let me tell you, shoveling looks really STUPID when stabbing someone with a spear! I'm a Beta player and older at that. I freely admit I rested on Jabs' laurels, it was my right as a player. I PAY for the privilege. I'm not sure what I will do, but if they don't fix it and FAST I may let BOTH my subs lapse and just come in for the social aspect. I just completed normal Malstrom by utilizing jabs. I'll NEVER do it without them! Why did they make this game HARDER? IDGAF about stats and all that. I just want a reasonable chance to do okay and not embarrass myself. Thanks ZoS. I thought you'd never surpass the error you made a few years back with the healer's helm. I was wrong. THIS is the WORST.

(Note that I posted one of these about Jabs so I'm just including Jabs for measure)

I like to give credit where credit is due and you know, ZOS has done alot of good with ESO in the past for the most part, make no mistake.

Now however I'm really confused as far as what we're doing here. Had not realized the Flurry animation was getting changed as well, many of us Templars was thinking of replacing Jabs with Flurry Morph but dang it, you guys messed that one up as well.

So I'm just wondering I mean, why did Flurry animation need this change? If you light attack once or twice then that produced the equivalent to the animation that you guys changed it to. It just looks harrible. Is there any possible way we can at least change the Flurry animation back to what it was? Cause this is not good work and it doesn't feel appropriate to the skill itself.

Again it looks [snip] and like the poor person isn't even trying to kill something just messing around with blades. I really hate some of these changes and it's almost making me think about quitting the game. Why? Cause I didn't get my way... nooooo. Because my character when attacking using Flurry or Jabs looks really sloppy and like I'm not even trying. Its like the character I built is no longer meeting the original vision.

Really sincerely wish you guys would roll back many of these terrible terrible changes. That's my honest unbiased feedback.

    [edited for minor bashing]

Yes. Said after sticking around for nine years, this is just it for me. Good luck to the noobs who won't know any better. Me. I was done when MS moved in. Pretty sure they'll continue to F' it up good till they kill it.

Flurry looks perfect... if you're dual wielding Mackerel

Using a 2 hander more and more because the animation is too jarring to look at, it doesn't feel powerful, just desperate.

As others may have already pointed out... if you haven't done so already, stick an Axe in one hand and a Mace in the other, then use Flurry and see if it makes a little more sense.

Not saying that improves the animation any, just provides a rationale.

The main issue with its feel is that it looks like we're doing two hits, but actually striking four times. Kinda rubbery-armed as well.

I main a Templar, and Jabs has been unchanged since I started playing... what's it been, 7 years now? You get used to the cadence of a spammable like that over that length of time, so any change is going to be scrutinized closely.

I could probably get used to the cadence and such over time, but it doesn't feel great right now. It feels less "snappy." There are a lot of examples of decisions made where players didn't like the "feel," numbers and efficiency and actual improvements be damned. This seems to be one of those times for these two skills.

I'm not sure if i could get used to it ever, considering how different it appears from all the other Templar skills. They all share a artistic style/color pattern. This one is jarringly different.

This would of been a cool animation for a necromancer to use if they redid it in necroblue.

We are so so used to how skills look at this point, seven years on, to change their appearance so drastically throws me off balance, no nerf needed.

Yeah as a templar main, I'm really not digging the new jabs animation. I hardly noticed it at first, but once I noticed it, its something that you can't really unsee. I get that jabs was a loaded skill and they wanted to change it, but was the animation really that OP?!

@ZOS_GinaBruno or @ZOS_Kevin can you explain why animations were changed, especially with the policy of never changing existing assets (we were told this is why Timbercrow diaper wouldn’t be changed as well as the Seafaring hair which darkens hair by about 5 shades). Why was it okay to do this with animations, particularly like jabs that has been integral to an entire class since launch? This isn’t a cosmetic you can switch out for something else; it’s a key skill and should not have been altered.

The new Jabs animation is the ugliest thing I've ever seen in any video game. It literally hurts my eyes to watch this animation. Seeing it my 1st time, I felt like it was a practical joke from ZOS. The way the templar has a herk/jerky back and forth motion when using this skill is both hard to watch and just plain stupid. If the devs had a mandate to nerf this skill and make it do less damage that is 1-thing. But taking what was a perfectly fine animation and turning it into what it is now was a HUGE mistake. If I told you how I really feel about it I'd be instantly banned from the forums. This is me being as restrained as humanly possible. [Snip]. This is absolutely horrible and I don't even play my templar any longer because I can't stand to watch this skill be fired.

Flurry needs to change if only because it's indistinguishable from light attacks. There are no visual or other queues to indicate when it ends, and as a result makes it hard to weave with.

Give it something else. I can't say that I liked the poking animation much better. But a flurry attack is about speed and rapid movements. This isn't that. It needs to be different.
