New Jabs and Flurry Animations

    Honestly, the most egregious part of the new jabs animation is the fact that appearance-wise it's LITERALLY just a recolour/reskin of the Nighthollow staff motif. [snip]

    Not only is it a reskin of an existing motif... It's a vampire motif... About as anti templar as you can imagine

    Jabs is arguably the most iconic skill in the entire game. To replace it with something so [snip] and uninspired is just insulting. It’s so bad it’s offensive.

    When I talk with players in game they say they enjoy the change, "i'm glad they fixed that ***, it was/has been broken."

    To each their own, I don't really touch templar, but that has been my interaction with others.

    Okay, I kinda like the jabs too... Ah, I know, an unpopular opinion. As for Flurry - I don't use them, but we'll see.

    I don't really like the jabs animation, the 'feedback' from it is very confusing. I can't tell if I'm 'connecting' or not.

    It would take quite a bit of effort to adapt to it, this is undoing years of the old animations and 'rhythm'.

    Thing is, is not worth it. They have nerfed jabs so hard that there is no point on using them over a 'generic' spammable like Silver Shards/Elemental Weapon anymore.

    I really wanted to, I almost tricked myself into thinking that I could because to me jabs is what made templar... well, templar, but is folly.

    What was broken about the old jabs and flurry animations? Who has said anything about them being broken, for your interaction with others to be relevant here? Because that's what this thread is about, it's aboutthe animations not a generalised "someone said something is good so I'm passing that on".

    Can the devs even explain to us why this was done? How is this an improvement and a priority above all the other things that the game needs. New animation is a travesty. Thanks I hate it.

    What happened with their whole “we’ll never change existing assets again” after redguard/orc motifs back in the day? Why were the animations for this considered worth going against that? These new animations are awful. Adjust the timing on them if necessary but don’t completely rework them.

    Can we please get a statement from the devs on why this animation was changed? Why the Nighthollow staff? Are there any plans to change the other Aedric spear animations to match? Is this some kind of placeholder until a real Aedric spear animation set is released?

    I agree. As someone who has multiple templars I always thought that the old animation made it look like characters were just spasming with light. The new animation does make more sense with the new timing of the skill.

    Flurry on the other hand...it looks awkward and it feels awkward.

    The onslaught of devs constantly ruining classes while ignoring the ones that actually should be nerfed needs to change. Every class has a strong skill (most have multiple) This new animation / nerf of jabs just downright robbed stamplars of the only good damage class skill. Does it even register damage anymore?

    Both look awful.

    Jabs/sweeps uses Nighthollow Motif staff, which is probably the worst choice possible. The spear looks like a paddle! If you can't be bothered to create a unique model, why not use one of the hundreds of other staff motifs? There are at least a few that resemble an actual spear!

    Flurry... Oh dear, where do I start. While the old animation was a little silly (chop, chop, chop, chop) it felt as it should. Now it just looks and feels ridiculous! Instead of stabbing, the character does very wide, sweeping, slicing motions leaving their body open to attack. The skill description should read:

    "You have come across a DK. Close your eyes and flail your arms in the air in sheer panic in hope your butter knives hit the enemy.

    New morph effect: you begin to weep for 0.8sec as your knives are hitting air and sliding off enemy's plate armor. Try stabbing the enemy instead? "

    I just don't see why they felt the need to pour resources into this, when the old animations were fine as they were. This is coming from someone who genuinely LIKES the jabs animation. There were just...better things they could have done.

    Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they wanted to shorten the animations to aid in making the flow of combat easier.

    They reduced the duration to supposedly make weaving easier (you know, the same weaving that they wanted to nerf and make less important) without any actual evidence that the original duration caused weaving to be difficult.

    Regardless of whether a decrease in duration was warranted though, decreasing the duration didn't require them to completely change the animation. They could have kept the same animation as before and just tweaked it to fit in with the new duration but instead they decided to mess with the animation "just because".

    The new flurry animation is awful. I feel like an uncoordinated noob slapping at the air instead of a lean mean stabby stabby machine, which is one of the main reasons I enjoy dual wielding!

    I am actually all for them shortening the animations since I found jabs especially was too long and a lot of people would block cancel it to maximize dps.

    But I think they lost sight of what it feels like to play through combat when the animations are visually clumsy and slow, regardless of the timing of attacks or how short the animation is.

    I agree with some other people here that jabs looks ok, but flurry... thoughts and prayers for flurry. And for my stamblade who now looks like a drunkard about to tip over backwards when he's fighting. :)

    Well, my character is a Nightblade, and I've always had a sword and dagger equipped. With the old flurry, I could basically hit the attack button in the middle of it to clip the attack and attack again for more damage. The new wild swinging doesn't allow me to do that anymore, so not only does it look ridiculous, but it actually makes the combat worse! It is absolutely clumsy and slow, not quick and deadly like it should be.

    I haven't used Flurry yet because I'm still so devastated about what was done to the jabs. Not only does jabs look incredibly stupid and floppy, but it feels clumsy and clunky. My Templar that I've invested at least 5 years in is now going to be a pixelated paperweight in the shape of a crafting mule. I mocked a certain content creator for something he did regarding changes made to Templars before, but it turned out that those changes weren't too bad. Now I understand how he felt back then and I wish I could apologize to him. I suppose I'll be going back to playing Stardew Valley full time again. At least that game creator seems to listen to his fan base.

    Jabs I can live with. Flurry looks horribly uncoordinated.
