Do you play ESO in first person view, third person, or both?

I do play single player TES games in first person but for a multiplayer game like ESO, especially in dungeons, I want that extra bit of situational awareness that third person gives me and I also play with the camera zoomed way out.

How about you?

I used to play only in first person, but once I started doing trials regularly I realized I really needed the situational awareness and (begrudgingly) zoomed out. Once I got the hang of it I never looked back. First person makes me weirdly dizzy now and I only use it for screenshots.

Usually don’t play games in first person, except situation where I must use ranged weapon and for a limited time. Otherwise, I don’t feel comfortable. With third person I see everything around me. With first person I have a very limited visibility, I always have to constantly turn camera around to see what in my "blind spots" and I start feeling dizzy very quickly
And games like Cyberpunk makes me dizzy even by watching a gameplay review :#
And ESO is 100% third person

I played Skyrim in first-person before coming to ESO, and when I replayed it a couple years back I tried third-person only long enough to determine that the character movement is too janky for that to work for me. For whatever reason, that game works with the relatively limited view where you can't see everything around your character.

In ESO it's third-person all the way. I need to be able to see what's around me, especially if there are mechanics somewhere that I need to react to, or enemies around that I want to be prepared to deal with or run past. There's also stuff to gather that I might miss with a more limited view. And it's nice to see my characters in the fashion that I spend a lot of time putting together for them. :D

For me I do switch over to first person for some puzzles when you need to really see the symbols or when the active sweet spot is small and hard to get at. Pets and companions also just get in the way sometimes.

The only time I ever used first person is for placing furnishings or taking a screenshot (rarely). Other then that I don't like the limited FOV of first person, even when putting it to the max it still feels limited. I like to play fully zoomed out to the max when in the world, the odd time I do have to move the camera a bit closer (like indoors or some dungeons) since it can be annoying to have it snap around with close objects or view blocking (EH vines are the worst).

I feel it is fairly fluid between the two, but I do spend most time in 3rd person.

I can see my character and, as honoured Ilsabet noted above, it seems more suited to playing the game in 3rd person.

However, I do really enjoy some of the first person animations, most notably my redguard magcro raising her minions and when I use my reanimate ultimate.

I'd prefer to use first person as it's more immersive but, I end up basically always in third person because the effects are too flashy in first person.

Additionally, it feels like most of the content that can kill you does so by circles on the ground that are hard to see the full extent of when you are in first person.

first person is a nightmare meme in this game, the camera feels way too close to the character no matter what fov you set so it's basically impossible to actually see all the important stuff you need to keep track of in combat + the screen gets so absolutely cluttered with visual noise + i can't even look down and see my character's torso/legs in first person

Used to be first person exclusively but then there was a bug a few years back that forced me into third and I got used to it. It’s admittedly more helpful for dungeon mechanics.

Another upshot is that when I go back to Skyrim the view is different enough that I don’t try to dodge-roll in that game any more. :D

I prefer 3rd person in rpgs because I don't play that I am my character; rather, I'm an ethereal spirit that travels with my character offering advice which she sometimes heeds. Therefore, an 'over her shoulder' view seems perfectly natural to me. I found that I needed to use 1st person sometimes in Oblivion and Skyrim during combat and was delighted to find that I can comfortably play in 3rd person all the time in ESO.

    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

    First person view almost always
Because ESO's primary combat mechanics are geared toward third person play, it's unfortunate that I find the third person view clunky and unsatisfying. So I pretty much always play in first person. It does mean I die quite a bit if I'm fighting something that throws out damage zones all over the place, but that's fine (I mainly solo). It's also why I've never tried to get serious about end game stuff like trials and vet dungeons. I have no interest in spending a lot of time in the third person view.

When I play RPGs, I pretty much always play in first person when it's available. I find it more immersive.

This is common as in WOW also did this there it was that was distracting but ESO is so much an TES game its not an problem except placing AoE accurate.
