STACKING TREASURE MAPS

And where are you getting all these maps? I rarely find any.

I frequently find two maps in a thieves' trove.

Honestly, I am afraid that if they "rework" treasure maps, they will dumb them down like they've been doing with other things and put a marker on our map so we don't have to search at all.

I don't understand how maps make your inbox unusable. And where are you getting all these maps? I rarely find any.
Because rather than storing them in my bank or across all 17 other characters, I store them in my inbox so that I can get a map, walk away a little, check my mail for another copy, walk back, dig, repeat until I don't have any duplicates.

As someone who's currently doing a lot of treasure maps (buying them from guild traders) sure it would be nice if they stacked, but then again it wouldn't really matter because it takes about 5-10 minutes for the dirt mound to respawn so there would be no point in taking like 5 of the same treasure maps in a row, as it simply is faster just to travel to the other maps instead, so I just buy one of each from the zone I'm currently treasure hunting in

However finding a map you already have in your inventory in a chest, yeah that's a pain

If you walk a short distance away and then walk back the dirt respawns.

The inbox isn't meant for storing items. And I still don't understand how people are finding so many maps. I open every chest and container and rarely find a map. But when I do I open it the same day.

I go out and do far more maps than the average player, and their lack of stacking is not, for me, an issue of hoarding, at all. It's an issue of having an unusable inbox while I'm off collecting my maps. And any other time of every day, because I receive a lot.

I don't understand how maps make your inbox unusable. And where are you getting all these maps? I rarely find any.

Back when the antiquities first released, I went through every trader in game and bought every single map under 500 gold to farm all of the ancestral motifs. Bought around 500 maps, took over a week to farm them all, so for that entire time, my inbox was completely full with treasure maps because I couldn't withdraw them, and it wasn't until I cleared them that I started seeing my normal mails that had come in since.

Same thing happened when the sticker book released. Hundreds of maps purchased, week+ of full inbox as I farmed set pieces.

I'd be fine with that honestly. I've done them so much that I have them all memorized, but sometimes the lightning is bad enough or the placement is just funky enough that the general area is easy to find but the specific spot is tough to see. Most people just use the online maps and stuff anyways, so adding a quest marker, or even something similar to the skyshard proximity compass marker that they recently added, would be nice.

Oh yeah, pre-sticker book, I actually did this to farm zone set pieces for gold. Like rivenspire, bankorai, malabal tor. But now, not really worth it for that since the sets don't sell for much anymore.

I don't use any of that stuff. I enjoy the hunt. While there are a few badly drawn or very vague maps, most of them can be figured out if you are observant and somewhat familiar with the area.

If they put a marker then why have a map at all?

    I hate the skyshard marker.

While I'm not against treasure maps stacking in theory after reading how players are buying them in the hundreds then storing them in their inbox I think it would be a bad idea in practice. Especially now that data and storage are of concern.

It's not like we are purposely storing them in the inbox, we literally cannot remove them from the inbox after buying duplicate of the same map locations. It is a forced venture.

I mean, even ignoring 100s bought.

Say you are farming maps for just the Deadlands to get the motifs. You are likely going to have to buy them from other players to even get enough maps to farm all of the motifs (took me close to 120 maps to do so). So you are still going to have to have a ton of maps sitting in your mail box while you farm. It makes no sense for them not to stack, as they are functionally no different than the survey maps that do stack.

I wish they stacked at least up to 5 maps. I've been in a situation when I had to let go of one Reach maps because I pulled it twice during a single delve or public dungeon run. The chances of that are low but not non-existent and if the maps could stack, that would be a very happy situation, like winning the jackpot. Now it's just irritating that the little dash of luck is wasted.

    yes for STACKING TREASURE MAPS...

and YES to craft a lot of writs of the same type without the need to turn one in before game allows to start another. Especially when a reward is a single writ voucher.

    Yes please.

I don’t want to be forced to do them as I get them. It forces me to interrupt the gameplay I was doing so that I don’t loose the opportunity to loot them. While I’m doing dungeons or farming in the imperial city, I don’t need the game to tell me that I have to go in the deadlands because i might loot another map that I won’t be able to grab.

It’s also a pain to manage bank and alts treasure maps because if you have a map in your "treasure map character" and you have the same map in your bank and on another alt, it forces you to log out of the TMC after doing the ones in his inventory and bank and log in with the alt to transfer it’s map to the bank and then log out and back in with the TMC. It’s also more common than you would think because RNG likes to mess with people and give three or four time the same object they don’t want/need.

Treasure maps will either be stacked in characters inventory or in players inbox. One is annoying and janky and one isn’t.

As far as them being unique and not stacking, it virtually never comes up for me. There was a recent occasion where I had to leave a Deadlands map in the chest next to Direnni abyssal geyser... it only sticks in my mind because it was a brand new zone at the time.

You did WHAT, @whitecrow ? Are you not aware that Deadlands maps are going for 100-200K still?

Dude, I'll gift you the pack rat pet right now (it's on sale, boom, instant 5 more inventory spaces) if you promise to send me the next Deadlands map you're thinking of leaving behind.

I had the map, I couldn't take another. So whether I sent it to someone or left one in the chest, it's the same thing to me. Hopefully this was one occasion where the next person wasn't mad that an item was left in a chest.

But if it ever happens again, I'll send you one. :)

couldn't you just pull out your banker assistant?

    I honestly think it's time.

How's about we finally let treasure maps stack.

Heh, I swear I didn't start this thread ZOS.

I like to joke around with ZOS on this topic but here is some background information.

Once upon a time, Treasure Maps stacked.

There was an exploit and a "short term" solution was implemented: They no longer stack. Unfortunately, this short term solution has been around for years.

The intolerable part of Treasure Maps, IMHO, is that they are unique. It's annoying that you can't pickup or bank another if the same map is present. If you could have more than one of the same treasure map, it would be an improvement.

Treasure maps need to stack now that they have tied leads to them. You NEED to do them multiple times over to be able to realistically obtain the leads. And it makes no sense to expect players to run back and forth from town to map location over and over again. It made sense when they weren't really meant to be farmed and had barely anything them you couldn't find in a regular treasure chest, but that isn't the case anymore. Items that are meant to be farmed, and leads are meant to be farmed, should be conducive to farming.

    That's ^ actually a valid (more current) point that i hadn't considered.

Now i'm wondering if perhaps it's something in the CODE though, preventing these particular 'object ID' from being modified.

The amount of gold found in Treasure Chest maps should be drastically increased, because true, they have lost their allure. Also, if you have already collected your stickerbook, finding a green- or blue-quality weapon seems rather... underwhelming?

The drop rate of Ancestral motifs? Oh please, I've already collected them by purchasing, so this incentive becomes slightly obsolete.

There are, however, antiquities that you can find just once. And they are worth 5k gold. Sooooo, maybe make those findable again and remove the once only limitation?

Why is it worth even hunting them down? I don't believe I've ever gotten much out of any of them that I've opened, usually just stuff that gets sold to a vendor or deconned. Am I missing a reason why they are worth the time?

On two separate occasions I have found two of the exact same treasure map in a Thieve's Trove.

One occasion was a Blackwood map, the other a The Deadlands map.

Both very valuable, the latter more so than the former because thanks to the dev's love for 'nested RNG' I am 3/14 on Ancient Daedric.

Science me that one, how do you get both maps out of the Thieve's Trove.

EDIT: Of course based on the approach the dev's take to fixing exploits and issues in general their fix to this problem would be... removing treasure maps from the troves' loot table. Problem: solved.

You pick one, put it in your bank assistant (if he doesn’t already have a copy) and then you can pick up the second one.

Alternatively, you can pick one, mail it to a good friend so they mail it back (that’s how you test a friendship) or mail it to your alt account if you have one and then pick the other one.

Hopefully, nobody will be there to steal the other map while you’re fumbling to free your inventory.

Like, if you found a 'treasure' map in RL , would you just sit on it?

If it was for something in California or the Caribbean, and I was in New York? Absolutely.

(honestly, I forget I have maps in my inventory until a "dig up a chest" Endeavor pops up, or... when I go to loot something, and the game says "you can only have one of those". At which point I get annoyed, and either trash the thing, or run off to dig up just that map, so I can finish looting the event box/bag/etc.)
