Why do you dislike the new feature: Tales of tribute card game?

I think development time could've been spent on something else more important or another better feature.
I've read the instructions for the card three times and still have not clue how to play them or even what their purpose is in this game. Other than a time filler instead of new content they serve no purpose.

New companions and when I don't even use the one I have and an incomprehensible card game are poor substitute for a new chapter.

This card game feels like a Gwent clone. An OK gwent clone with deck building elements where you use your "mana" to buy the cards, hence why each player brings two decks each and combines them. It's an interesting mechanic which I'm going to explore a bit more, but it's still a game that is far more luck-based than skill-based since you have access to your opponent's deck as well as your own, and I still think TESL would have been a, by far, superior choice. Feels like a filler system they'll abandon.

I heard from friends it is laggy and slow to play, so at least it fits in with the overall ESO competitive theme of late. Although no one got disconnected playing it yet, but it is still in testing, so that may change.

As a dlc feature this might be ok. As chapter main selling point? I have 5 accounts, I have class adding chapters on all. This new chapter I will have only on main. There is simply no need for it

IMO if ToT was released as a free base game update (à la No Man's Sky), this would get a lot of good boy points for ZOS.

I think after the dust settles, the card game is going to be somewhat popular because it does have an interesting niche in that you can play against NPCs and it is a decent time-sink taking 15-20 minutes each for a game. In PTS Week 1, the rewards are pretty good as you have a small chance of getting 200x Gold mats.

I think being able to play against NPCs is an overlooked feature as other card games are mostly PvP.

This game does have soft CCG elements too, which ZOS tried to downplay. Your Patron deck cards upgrade as you play more and more Tribute, some even requiring additional work to unlock. And even though the decks are randomly shuffled, in practice you do get to develop a favourite playstyle and unlocking better cards does have a small advantage.

Do playing cards help me stop the 3 banner war?

Do playing cards help in stoping daedric princes from conquering tamriel?

Do playing cards help in slaying monsters?

    [snip] no, [snip] no.

I've actually been enjoying it on the PTS. Obviously it needs polish, the animations are too long, and some of the decks need tweaking, and it needs a dedicated in-game menu page, but the foundation is decent. The quests around it are enjoyable (really enjoyed the trash-talking NPCs). Playing against players is fun and more unpredictable than the NPCs, so I'm getting a lot of replayability.

I'd say wait and try it before you decide you hate it.

as a long time MTG player, biggest mistakes in my oppinion: no reason to collect cards because you play with the same decks. no possibility of deck building. It really cant be more casual, and this gamemode gets a ranked queue.. RLY?
i will stay away from this below average bad cardgame.
ZOS, you already have Elder Scrolls Legends.. why not make this available?

So for me, it’s not necessarily that I don’t like the game itself. I’m all for adding more and more horizontal progression modalities to ESO. Being able to have options on how you play a game to diversify your experience is fantastic!

    However

This is not something I believe should’ve been featured as the main “COME BACK TO ESO PLSSSSSS” feature. Friends of mine that have taken a break for over a year aren’t going to have their obsession for the game revitalized. It’s frustrating to here the tone of ZOS’s voice where they really act like this is what the player base wanted. Is it a good addition? Sure! But they’re only adding this. They’re not improving any of the other systems that we’ve been constantly asking for improvements on and they’re not innovating the space with any fantastic repeatable gameplay loops for casual, intermediate and veteran players alike.

I’ll absolutely engage in the game, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s just another lackluster chapter release. I think we all expected a lot more is all.

I'll be honest. I went into PTS still jaded and angry at ZoS over AwA and their silence on the matter and I am on the band wagon of "not worthy of a main feature". So, with that aside~

I was a long term Magic the Gathering player. My room mate plays MTG and Hearthstone.
The first time I got in this PTS, my room mate watched as he was curious about card game too, even though he is hard core WoW player.

First impression was tutorial was complicated, couldn't hear instructions due to NPC's heavy accent and some cards and play instructions not explained properly at all.

After tutorial, went and just played around with novice NPC players. First couple of games, my room mate and I had the basics down and started playing taking turns with just novice NPC's.
Suddenly it is 3 hrs later and we are having a blast! Yes, it was fun, strategy based, and averaged 10 - 20 minutes per game.

As far as JUST the card game, I was skeptical and I was wrong. It is a fun game and I have found myself playing the PTS server more than any PTS to date. I have moved to playing other players which adds a new aspect and have had some VERY good games with fellow players. There must be a lot on PTS who like it as I queue for game and it pops immediately, even at 2 AM.

That said, I still feel this is not good enough to be a Major Feature and to be honest, doesn't add any lore tid-bits, and not sure if it "feels like it belongs in the TES universe", but bottom line, it IS fun.

I don't think a card game makes sense in ESO. ESO is a mmorpg not a card game.
When ZOS implemented ESO + a lot of players wanted to pay it because they felt it was supporting the game.

Now we are at a point where we all feel like that money is being siphoned away into a new ZOS project and ESO is being neglected.

A card game is ok, but it's not a primary system to advertise with a new chapter, it's a secondary thing.

At this point if ZOS was my girlfriend I would be concerned she's cheating on me.

Thank you for that! I’m glad that as a stand-alone card game it is good. I’m on console so no access to PTS.

Imo it is just a terrible time to introduce this game as a major feature. If we had received a new class, new weapon, new skill lines for each existing class, 3rd morphs.... etc. any of these would have been great and then next year a “non-combat” major feature would have been far more welcomed.

I agree that a "CCG" is a horrible Main Feature for a Chapter. As I said, I am still jaded from UD33 and UD 34 is just looking "meh" imo. Honestly, ESO in 2022 feels like watching Season 8 of GoT...

I tested TOT on the PTS and did the daily TOT quests, to get an idea. Here are my thoughts:

    1) Poor tutorial. There is little to no guidance available on the game rules.
    2) Still on the poor tutorial: Many players will not understand that thick dialect-accent.
    3) No fun. Although I played Gwent in the Witcher 3, which was fun and paired with lovely music, TOT is tot-boring.
    4) Time is money! It takes far too long to complete a game match, and you only get your daily reward if you win, which means that you may end up spending hours trying to win a match.
    5) Miserable rewards. After spending hours playing this boring games, I got 10 rubedite, a soul gem and 100 gold. Excuse me?
    6) Since the game makes no fun, it is horribly time consuming, and the rewards are ludicrous, I do not see the point in playing it.

People will not come and buy ESO because it has an Awesome "Gold" Card game... Of course new feature is welcomed but not now... We will see...

I didn't even finish the tutorial. Even with my son to help, we both found it overly complicated for something that is supposed to be casual fun. The accent on the tutorial giver was very distracting, as well. This is NOT a Gwent clone. My son and I play (classic). Even the online version is easier to understand than this.
