Let us replace companions with our other characters (only cosmetic))

Replace the companions with player characters that we created, so only the name, appearance and personality (if equipped) will change
It should only be cosmetic change, but I guess it would make sense to disable companion quest when this is applied

Wonder if this can be done using add-on (It would only be changed from client side of course, if it's add-on)

So basically undo all that work they put into their story, voice overs, and inter-personality relations. You have a character with a completely blank face, always silent, and no dialog whatsoever.

From a technical standpoint, the companions have all the movements, expressions, the entire skeleton programed in and set. Your individual characters have different sizes. So they would move slightly different.
All those animations are tied to specific parameters but you would be changing those parameters, necessitating a initial mapping of your alts onto the companions skeleton or some kind of constant checking/upkeep.

And thats not touching the other issues people above have pointed out.

How would this even begin to work out with companions' personality, backgrond story and the developing relationship between them and our character? Like they're not skins, they're characters in their own right. Absolutelt terrible idea that defeats the purpose of them completely.

    Defeats the purpose of them.

They are pre-defined characters that aren't meant to be "customised" all that much.

And I mean, I imagine a lot of their dialogue will make zero sense if you were to say, make Bastian a Khajiit.

I would prefer to have silent companion with blank face, if I could fully customize their appearance :)
Also, my own characters are much more valuable and interesting to me, than any NPC could ever be.

Oh it's fine that as creators they make money. I mean when the company starts thinking of 'what will make the most money.' Instead of 'what would be really cool/fun to add?' And having that drive all their decisions. Cough crown crates and gems cough.

I hate to say this but all company's go into business to make money. Games are not Charity's. This game use to be access for subscription. So yeah I don't think there ever was a time that money didn't count.im sure the developers run within a budget just like every aspect of every other game does.

I guess this might be implemented later, IF game-makers introduce Crown Store "Companions' Appearance change" tokens.
If player characters may be re-modelled, then Companions might be customized too, as they use the same humanoid model.
Would it overload servers and increase lag? I don't know, that is what Developers can tell (if they wish).

I wasnt only talking about this game you know. Also, subscription and gamble crates ARE NOT the only ways to make money. It's that thinking that really drives me away from most games. (Maybe if they had a lot of returning items in the crown store instead of bringing them out so rarely. Some even years apart.)

All of my characters are better than the current companions. It would be reasonable to expect that this would be the case if one of them were a companion to another. This won't be the case.

Looking at the bigger picture, I can imagine many unhappy people seeing that their Alt is not performing like they expect.

They are essentially lifting companions for Skyrim and shoe horning them into an MMO. We lose customisation but hopefully get more in depth characterisation... so yeah I happy with the direction... essentially they are the useless quest NPCs, that can die all the time. Hopefully they will make them immune to AOEs otherwise they will be potatoes or need so much micromanaging that you gimp yourself.

It would be nice to place other family members, (characters), in the homes as house guests. But this one sees way too much of ones family to be traveling with them. They can take care of themselves. :p

Companions have their own 3 or 4 skills, their own equipment, their own xp leveling rate, etc. So if I could use alt chars as companions, I'm certain that my char Za'kir the Unstealthy (stamblade) would be even more unstealthy as a companion.

I would be okay with simply being able to place alts in a house, and them not being active when you're actually on said alt. Purely a cosmetic change to companions would simply take away from the purpose of companions.

I would like to be able to treat alts as house guests (non-verbal), put them on paths, etc. All of my alts co-exist in the same universe.

I never expect ZOS to do this.

    1. We are already under stringent limits regarding how many house guests we can have on a given property
    2. Characters might be more complicated to render than the average house guest.
    3. Limits on placing house guests plus a stable of our own house guests would reduce the need to buy more house guests in the Crown Store.

I would love this as an option, even if the alt-companion only ever uses text.

Some of my characters are linked via their backstories, and it would be absolutely awesome to have them on screen together.

As cool as it'd be the companions are like Lydia and Serana from Skyrim. They are voiced over, have stories, their own personality, etc. It'd be against the whole point of why they're being added to the game in the first place.

My alts as companions.... I'd have to say no. Most of them have Issues, are borderline sociopaths, have anger management quirks, are usually paranoid, and solve most problems with sharp weapons and a bloodbath or several. Very few of them would be safe to have as an armed member of a group. Chaotic good is still chaotic. No where near chaotic stupid aka chaotic evil, but still.....
