Let us Toggle off notifications for Friends logging On and Off

I love my friends but I don't need to see every time they log on or off, or change characters... Nor do they need to see me doing the same. If I want to see if a friend is on I'll open my friends list and look. I don't need a notification.

Please let us toggle these messages off.

Years ago I created a "System" chat tab and directed all game messages like that go there now, where I don't see them, ever. Remember to uncheck System messages from other tabs.

There is no toggle for system messages in my chat tabs. And how do you direct messages to a specific tab? Are you using a custom ui?

My mistake, I have the addon pChat and I don't remember if the base game had that option by default or not.

That's ok. It doesn't but it should. How hard could it be to add a toggle for that?

I hate seeing the log on/log off spam. I also hate 'pushing' my status to others.

I looked at using an addon but that only solves half my concern by eliminating me from seeing friends logging on/off. The other half of my concern is that log ons / log offs were also being pushed out to friends and I don't want that either. The fact that I log on means just that - I have logged on. It is not a signal that I want to group or chat or play with others. If a friend really wants to see if I'm online, they can look at our guild roster.

I also considered playing 'offline' but that is both hard to keep track of and blocks whispering which I sometimes may want to do. Tried and didn't like that option.

Ultimately, I solved the problem by zeroizing my friends list. Literally, I keep my friends list at zero. I belong to a small guild and my friends are all there so I can go to the guild roster to see if they are on line and I have no log on/log off chat spam. This solution has worked very well for me.

You can also turn off all WTS in zones, it filters all those too

banditsUI has the option to stop these things, along with a thousand other convenient option, alltogether with pve alerts and abilities tracking.

LUI extended also has the option to disable this notification, and others as well.

settings > banditsUI > 18. Automation > Blockings > Friend status

This is what I see for my chat tab options. It would be very easy for ZoS to add "system messages" to the choices.

I do appreciate that there are addons where I can hide these notifications, but as others have pointed out this only hides their logons from you and does nothing to hide yours. Also, I really don't want to install an addon that has a dozen other features I don't want, or changes my ui, just for one simple feature that ZoS could easily implement.

I remember when NoThankYou addon stopped blocking friend status notifications, I sent feedback that we need an official option to hide this kind of system notifications, and described why.
I have empty chat tab and it's always minimized; I use it when I want to set myself to offline and have full immersion in quests and exploration. After addon stopped working, each time friend logged in/out, this chat tab was un-minimized... It ruined my immersion, it distracted me from what I was doing. After that feedback, at least something was done about it Now friend activity no longer bothers my empty chat tab, it stays minimized at all times.

I still want the option to remove friend activity notifications, so that they don't show in my other chat tabs.

I also support this! It can be added as option, so every player can decide if they want to send their activity notifications to friends or not.

This functionality should definitely be built into the game and not outsourced to yet another addon we have to manage and keep up to date. And I agree with SilverBride and with ArcadianPaladin about not always wanting every time I log a character in to collect their daily mail or something to have to bother everyone on my friends list. No one should have to resort to not having a friends list just because of this problem. I have eight characters that get mail from hirelings. I always imagine my friends thinking, “Oh, there he goes again collecting all of his hirelings mail!”
