ZOS, a suggestion for those of us with sentimental mail we want to save instead of having it deleted

May we have an archive folder added, like most mail functions provide?

I have mail I am sentimental about that is from 2016 that I want to hold onto. Others have mail from 2014 that they want to hold onto for one reason or another, from Day one expansion goodies to mail from deceased players. Please give us Archive function.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

You can just screenshot it,so you can always relook at it.Archiving take server space, and that seems to be lacking.

I'd love to save my sentimental emails in game from 2014 also....but alas, I suspect you can blame the ol "server performance" reason that seems to be driving all kinds of nerfs and removals of seemingly harmless things. And maaaaybe it's true, and if so then what a shame.

Sad to see the game is such a sorry state with apparently little hope.

So, yeah, I'll save a screenshot for old times sake and move on, but the increasing amount of things both large and small that are slowly and surely being taken away is a very concerning indicator to say the least.

Happy Monday, I'm so triggered :(

The onliest reason for this annoying change is, that they want you to buy bag space and boxes and eso+, instead of using your mailbox for storage. Storage scarcity is a core torture concept for players.

The "sentimental" emails I want to save have no attachments of any items.....they are just text. One example states:

    From Customer Appreciation
    Received: 85 months ago

    Imgakin Non-Combat Pet

You participated in the Elder Scrolls Online beta.

Many and maybe most people don't care. I did care.....

Thanks for post that memo from so long ago. I deleted mine (message) many moons ago and whenever I see my beta monkey I remember the times we had beta testing back then.

I still think this would be a good will gesture. They could make it only apply to mail that did not include attachments.

I can understand why they changed it, because the mailing system likely isn't good for their database. It stores so many mails that people just save up or just allow to build up over the years. Notifications I would also like to see them rework as well. Like who cares what score someone got in a trail. Then you just have to close those or get rid of them.

I know one time they asked us to clear out the crafting bags, and the mails as well for loading screen times. Which I think was done to try and reduce the database space. Also stuff does in fact backlog after so many mails you get. It makes it a pain to clear it out. Especially if you do pvp stuff. You got so much stuff from the pvp rewards system. Then there is of course the crafting stuff. So I can imagine there is quite a lot of database stuff just from the mailing system.

What this will do is stuff actually gets deleted over time. For thousands and thousands of accounts, this will clear out a lot of stuff they tend to store or don't bother to clear out. I can actually see this as being a good thing, for one it will get more people to clear out their mailing more possibly. If they don't want to lose out on the stuff. Second what it will do is reduce their database size and the mailing backog.

They can still do exactly that, and still add an archive folder. Not everyone has mail they want to keep, but some people do. We should have an option to preserve mail that we want that is special to us. Bulk pvp reward mail is different, like I said, they could stipulate that archived mail could not have attachments and it would solve that problem.

WoW has a system that lets you save a mail as a letter (it converts into an item).

    Something similar would work well.

But what if my old precious mail is just text, without any items in attachments? :'( I can understand the need to remove mails which have attachments after 30 days, but simple text should not take much space on servers :(
know one time they asked us to clear out the crafting bags

Are you sure about that? I can't remember such awful thing :o

The nearest I remember is a few updates ago when they changed how items are saved to the servers and said it would take longer to log in the first time as your items are updated to the new system, and if you have a lot of items it might take a very long time. Some players decided in preparation for that to clear out their banks and inventories of stuff they didn't actually need or want (and I think one person on the forum claimed they were deleting absolutely everything), but ZOS didn't say you needed to get rid of anything, certainly not to empty your crafting bag.

If I recall correctly, I think here's actually a setting in options that turns off leaderboard notifications? So at least you can stop seeing those ones.

I wish they could have made a furnishing of some type (urn, plaque, figurine, etc) that we could "imbue" or save the text of the email so that when the imbued item was placed in a house, you could click on it and see the email memento in game, same as reading a lorebook.

Or a book furnishing we could "save" such emails to and read them on demand.

Why wouldn't they want you to buy eso+? I mean they are in the business of selling that and other things to turn a profit.

Why not just screenshot it and upload it? I'm completely failing to see what purpose does it serve (sentimental/valuable or not) inside your own private mailbox.

There could be a database error or some sort of addon acting up and you'd have this well kept mail going down the drain in the in an instant. In fact we're extremely lucky Zenimax didn't go ahead and push the delete button on everything single piece of old, empty (no items) mail ingame, forever removing it from existence instantly.

I also have and had have lots of sentimental pieces in my mailbox. I screenshot them and put them up online.

Your view on the matter just seems counterproductive.

I wish they would get rid of notifications for reading motif pages. Like really, game, I know shoes/legs/chests for x motif were added because I literally just read the motif to add them. I don't need to be notified of a thing I did seconds ago.

With the number of idle accounts that hold mail stored in the servers, my one mail from 2016 saved in an archive folder would not hurt the hamster. Nor would other people's. With their cycle of auto- deletion freeing up space, making room for ones kept would be no additional strain.

It's special, it's communication from ZOS, it's like a time capsule. I deserve to keep it. The real thing.

I agree with @Sheezabeast on this one. Messages from loved ones that have passed on plus many special memories should be kept in the game. These things shouldn’t be cut, as they are not hampering performance.

This would be the right thing for the community. Players are certainly justified in wanting to keep some sentimental memories in the game.

There is no other way for memorials and a screenshot doesn’t cut it honestly. It is more than nice to still see those words from a loved one still in the game where they belong.

@ZOS_GinaBruno please look into this it would be much appreciated by many longtime players....
