Anyone else really disappointed with the CP overhaul?

  • They didn't remove combat abilities and passives from cp.
  • They didn't move crafting into cp and make it account-wide.
  • They didn't even remove the annoying gold sink for changing your cp.

And even though power cap may be at 1200 cp, with the cp cap raised to 3600 you will always have that gnawing feeling in the back of your mind that you're never done with that annoying progression. From a psychological perspective it just feels terrible to never be max level. It's an OCD nightmare. >:)

And the biggest missed opportunity is to not change the system so that you earn cp with achievement points rather than experience.

Imagine how great the cp system could be:
  • Be done with power progression at lvl 50 - earn your ropes in a few days and then it's all about skill. No more senseless grinding cp to hit max power level. No more changing cp before every trial.
  • With all combat abilities removed from the cp system, make it all about quality of life perks. 100% horizontal - everything in there is cool, nothing is needed to play well.
  • Move crafting into the Champion System to make it account-wide. No more load screens to change characters to craft a glyph or some gear.
  • And best of all: Make CP = Achievement Points. The more achievements you earned, the more quality of life options you get - and the bigger the number in front of your name.

And now they won't work on it again for years, so we will probably never get those changes. :'(

That's a big 'sort of' statement I think.

Yes, the cost to respec your CP hasn't changed, BUT we have to consider you can only have 12 active skills active at any one time now and respecing THOSE are 100% free.

So the idea is, you build up a collection of CP traits that you can interchange on the CP Bar of 12 as you please for free.

This is actually a good thing IMHO and whilst encouraging the longer term CP 'grind' - it's done so for the sake purely of convenience and choice as much as anything.

I think it's a great system myself as someone who does PvE / PvP on the same character.

Was gonna wait to see if it’s really like that on pts. Doesn’t seem to make so much sense at first glance if having less than max cp comes down to having to pay more for cp skill changes and more clicking.

I was hoping they would rebalance Overland difficulty using CP somehow. That didn't happen. I was also hoping for less of a stat focus and more of a 'change the way your character plays' focus, yet I saw almost nothing BUT stats. However, they didn't show us a lot of what was on the CRAFT tree. Hopefully there is a lot more to it then, um, fall damage reduction.

Indeed. Overland gameplay is completely broken right now. There is no hint of a challenge anywhere, and there are sooo many monsters that you almost can't take a step without running into one - which then follows you until you finally hit it once and then it rubberbands to its starting location...

And yes. I don't understand the need for any verticality at all in the champion system.

I am just abit confused by it, I can slot all my points but can only have four things active in each tree?

Whats the point of me having all these points allocated then?

    I AM CONFUSSSSION!!!!

I'm reserving judgement. Seems a bit early so far. I have concerns (not the least of which is Wheeler's ideas for what makes a better game and mine have a habit of not lining up), but I'll have to see more than a hands-off promotional video to make up my mind.

We didn’t get to read through every CP star yet but so far it seems like a great rework. Still need to wait for PTS.

As a whole though looks much better than the previous system and less taxing on performance.

    I would LOVE more build-specialization.

Give me +Chance to Inflict Status Effects, +Frost Damage, etc.

I very much hope that it's not simply +Magicka, etc.

If they put it at max 1200 never to raise it, it'd be fine, but that "forever behind" feeling looking at 3600... :s

Some of the stars are passive bonuses that don't have to be slotted.

By having extra stars purchased they are going to be available to swap in at anytime while outside of combat, making it easier, faster and cheaper to respec and change builds.

Move crafting into the Champion System to make it account-wide. No more load screens to change characters to craft a glyph or some gear.

...why would they ever do something like that? Why would you have expected that? O_o

(and how would that work for a new player? Sorry, you can't do crafting until you get to endgame and start grinding CP?)

edit: heck, that wouldn't even help with "not needing to switch characters to craft something", you'd still have to have spent all your CP on the crafting abilities on every character, leaving you with less to spend on other stuff (until you farmed lots of CP)

With the new CP system they are going to change the XP gain as well to make leveling faster. They need to normalize current CP to fit the new XP curve, and receive correspondingly higher CP.

Outliers with 3600+ CP in the old system are outliers.

They should reward people for the time invested in leveling beyond 810.

Yeah exactly, like there'll be a handful of people at max level and being able to stay at max level, but the rest of us schlebs who'll have gone from max level to babies again, we'll always be chasing max level since a) it takes forever to get a new CP past 810, and b) they said this rework was going to allow them to add more sub-constellations, which means they'll probably raise the cap each time too.

And then the nightmare of being a noob, even just looking at 810 it looks like a mountain, looking at 3600 is going to be quitter stuff.

Do we know whether or not we level up CP in "buckets" as we do currently (e.g. you gain a Thief, Warrior, Mage point and then it repeats).

Or are we free to spend our CP in any tree that we like, including only putting them into a single tree?

No. I kind of like what I see so far, but need to see more.

I like that having more and more CP just gives you more options and not pure power, it will help keep things less crazy with only being able to choose 4 actives from each tree.

I do think some of the bonuses won't be as big as what we see now in CP.

I also wasn't expecting crafting to be account wide.

And the game needs more gold sinks, not less.

I hope you can spend it in any tree with the 1200 cap (so I can at least still remain competent to do endgame content), but I can see them forcing you to spend in each tree so people don't just dump into warfare and be done with it.
