I think I said it before with the other recent hats. I don't think these are new assets. I think they're old assets with balding issues that they're releasing without an update.

It would be weird if they took a step back in quality compared to the previously released hats that don’t erase your hair. Like they couldn’t be bothered. Your hypothesis makes sense.

Yes. I really wanted to buy it and, now I won't because of the hat. The rest of the costume is OK, well except for some mesh clipping through a wider neck and a paper thin collar.

Apparently this is intended and not a bug or glitch of some kind. A friend showed me a post from Gina Sarah back on June 23rd in a thread about the Crate hats making your character go bald.

Edit to post the thread the screenshot was taken from and to correct that it was Sarah and not Gina who posted that. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/533656/new-hats-make-you-bald

It's a shame about all these new hat models we got since Greymoor - the fact that unlike other hats they remove any trace of hair makes them some of the worst hats ever, and resulted in a lot of disappointment and lack of interest. :disappointed:

Yeah, I was looking forward to rocking the new tams with my White River Braids, but they made my character bald instead. What a disappointment! Made me feel ripped off.

Even though I never use headgear on my characters (so the hat issue wouldn't be problematic for me), yep, my folks I tested it on in preview were WAY bulked up. Don't like that sort of thing, so won't buy it.

Unfortunately I was stupid enough not to preview the costume. I thought the last few hats and costumes was just an oversight but it seems ESO devs got super lazy with the new stuff. Old hats have several 'tucked in' textures depending on your hairstyle. The new stuff just makes you bald.

I wish there was a way to get a refund for this.

Why cant this hat make your hair look like the pact hairstyle in the crown store, like the robin-hood style hat or so many other hats do? >_> I mean...it's like they completely overlooked the romance of a bard with this!

Whats really annoying is that without shaved sides or any hair to speak of, the hat looks too large/like its floating around your head, especially on my bosmers

Doesn't matter, as the artwork shows the character with hair while wearing the costume. You would think people would preview it, but I have no doubt there are those who just buy on faith of receiving something as depicted alone.

Funny how at the top floor of that inn by the most Southern Wayshrine in Western Skyrim has an NPC wearing this hat and they have hair, yet we the players do not.

(Edited out my mistake. Its not the costume but it absolutely is the same hat!)

    Huh, you're right...

    atRgFto.png

He's not wearing the costume, but that's definitely the hat for it there. And he's got a hairline underneath. I wonder if they make this as a separate 'hat' which did work properly...? Then again, there are loads of NPC things that they never made available to us *coughShortMussedWavecough* that really should find their way into the store. Why are we barred from these cosmetics?

As a sidenote, I'm noticing the hat, even though it's not marked for hairstyles, still will show differently on some characters. I don't think it depends on the hair underneath since I just tested a few, but I have noticed the hat is a bit oversized on Bretons, but looks fine on Orcs...didn't try too many options though...
    AiSUBWY.png

I'll just say I'm glad I didn't get this costume for the hat. I'd have liked it if it matched, but... At least the costume itself looks good...

    1. How would they save money on enabling one texture?
    2. Most of the people who buy costumes actually care about how their characters look.

The hair missing yea, thats one thing. However......

How come no one has pointed out that this is probably not what a Skald would look like, Skalds are Northman/Norseman/Vikings. This is more in line with a Minstrel or a Bard for attire. But hey, that's just my thoughts....I do not think the Devs actually pay attention to detail or care honestly.

    1) You'd need to account for various logic...if the persons hair-style is puffy how would your hat look then, or spiky hair then what? If you're saying they should just have one generic hairstyle that every hair is changed to when wearing a hat, how is that really different from no hair showing? Either way people would complain unless the hat would adjust based on various hair styles.

    2) I don't agree with that statement, most everyone I play with gave up on caring about the hairstyles quite a long time ago...more interested in resolving crotch flaps and finding a color palette that is consistent from character creation to in-game playing.

With this one here - I think the fact that this is already done with other hats is the thing.

We have some hats (like the Wolfhunter reward) that will show hair underneath. Not every hairstyle is shown correctly, but they defaulted to something that looks somewhat similar (for example, a character with the Center Part Long hairstyle will not change much, but someone wearing the Coil with Long Fall will revert to the previous with the hat on)

There's also the option that we had with the Innkeeper or Budi-Shirt costumes, where they had simple hairlines made for characters with no hair, shaved hair, tight curls, or straight, and each hairstyle would give you one of those options as a hairline. Even if my character has long hair normally, if he put on the hat and ended up looking like he tucked it under the hat (but I could still see sideburns) versus getting a Mr. Clean shave, that's an improvement.
