Give me a bardclass/skill line!

Being a bard in tESO

since every character already has the emotes for making music this shouldn'd be that hard to implement. It's already very lorefriendly, as we know that the nords take great pride in their bardic talents. This could be a skill line such as the thieves skills or per example the psijiic skill line, or maybe a full character class. (New character class, yay!)

Some skill ideas:
Drums of war/battle drums: (obvious) boost to speed/damage, imagine 1 (or more) bard(s) drumming you into battle
Lute: increased restores (maybe life only)
Flute: Increased restores (maybe magica only)
Weird ass Khajiiti thing: (stamina comes to mind)
Even singing could be a thing, maybe even combined with an instrument.

It would be amazing to have a band of bards option, linking multiple instruments (or more of the same for added bonus to the mentioned effects), as in a group of wardrums, imagine the feeling it would give you when you have 8 drums of war when you charge into Cyrodill to wreak havoc upon your enemies faction. It would be amazing to have (when partied up for example) the audio to sync with eachother for that massive feeling, slightly increasing audio levels when you do. Maybe even debuffs for enemies in the vicinity of your wardrums as a kind of 'fear' effect.

Songs and legendary instruments could be searchables much like recipies and/or treasure maps, having massive buffsongs be like those non combat pets that you have to get multiple pieces for before ou can put it together, minor songs could be shared in a same manner as lycantrophy or vampirism.

There could be a bards college with specialisations.
Also imagine the roleplaying effect or even the sporadic dance parties you sometimes see in the bigger towns, with high level bards having a full band (drum, lute, flute, weird ass khajiiti thing and a singer) all in sync, maybe even with autosync on /dance when a party of bards is going.

Feel free to brainstorm with me, me and a friend who sadly doesn't play anymore came up with this maybe a year ago but we never got around to working it out more, so this is a smaller version out of the top of my head of what we came up with on a long night of simply running around, gathering and furious smashing off the keys on our keyboards.

All this sounds well and good however you still charged Bilbo and the dwarves to ferry them to Laketown. Just for that I vote nay!

To get a skillline visit a musical school, or make a garage band 😊

DAOC & Everquest had bards. I played one in vanilla EQ you had to swap instruments while fighting to use specific skills.

Mostly people wanted you primarily for group speed buff that let you run super fast.

DAOC had bards/minstrils/skalds respectively they were a mix of light tank/magica.

In Star Wars Galaxies one profession was dancer. While gaming you suffered wounds to your mind / health / stamina that reduced their capacity. To heal & buff mind pool you went into cantinas & watched people dance... seriously. There was actually people who did that.

It would be kinda lame to see people brandishing flutes in Cyrodiil.

Like the scene in Indiana Jones where the guy jumps out with really cool sword moves and then gets shot.

If somebody hits me with major scales on a flute I'm dropping Ice Comet on them.

Your nerf suggestion is dumb. Learn to counter other players instead of having the game rebuilt to your ability level.

I have a dream, to play a bard in ESO. Bards have always been one of my favorite parts of any fantasy story. Thomdril Merrilin is the most epic of bards, if anyone has read the Wheel of Time. I beg you Devs, bring it :)

I remember those in EQ. Did you ever read the tale of Fansy the Famous Bard from EQ? It's hilarious.

I hope we don't get a new class for a long time to come.

They should spend the next year or two fine tuning the 6 we already have.

I think that players that come here only to pvp, or maybe played a bit Skyrim they will never understand why some of us (probably D&D fans) geek over Bards, lol.

But it's true, I'm so sick of classes in this game, they don't really have an identity and leveling up skills is boring. If only the classes felt real or there weren't any classes, just skill lines, it would be awesome.

i would also love a bard - in all reality a skill line makes a lot more sense tough

    - all previous guilds have been implemented as skill lines and not classes (fighters, mages, psijic)
    - such a skill line would probably be group / support / buff oriented and this could also make sense as a skill line

well i would say this, i think zos either needs to give classes real identities and make them distinct or scrap classes all together and go for a true elder scrolls skills based system where you simply combine out of a hundred skills the ones you want...

but this weird mix of having classes but nearly no distinction between them to make everyone equal just gets you the worst of both worlds...

Nothing sounds more tedious and offputting than your soundtrack in my game.

And nothing will irritate you more than mine in yours.

Every time someone goes all gooey about bards, I can just hear “Brave Sir Robin ran away” in my head.

Maybe Zos will offer that this next Chapter. However, if they were to add it as a class it would likely not be for another year or two as they just added a new class this year.

ZoS would first need to make space for a bard class in order to do this, which is something every bard suggestion on this forum (and there are many. . .) seems to forget.

As of now, there's barely enough supporting to be done to make both a tank and healer useful. Outside of trials one of them usually gets dropped, because there's just no need to have even two people using support skills when every DPS can get access to whatever buffs and utilities they could need on their own. Therefore creating an entire skill line devoted to supplying the group with things they already have is kind of a waste of time and effort.

I was playing on Sullon Zek at the time. Thing is it was a free for all pvp server based on deity you were evil vs goid vs neutral.

You couldn't pvp until level 6. This guy stayed level 5 and would train high level monsters through low level exp grinding areas.

In EQ the zone Oasis of Marr people congregated along the shore killing crocs and orcs. EQ always had random max level giants strolling around this guy would train them through people. Giants would kill everyone.

Since he stayed level 5 you couldn't gank him

Only if I have an option to smash the lute over bard's back, put the drum over their head and shove the flute all the way up their you-know-what. And then proceed to gut them using a proper weapon just to make a point why organising a musical perfomance in the middle of a battlefield is a bad idea.

No, no, you have to do it -traditionally-, and tie them up gagged in a tree:

So would be carrying a stick... IF there was no magic.
With magic, be it cast through arcane incantations or spellsong... it becomes a different sort of idea.

(Not to mention, people have been bringing musical instruments to the battlefield for ages, and playing them in the face of all sorts of weapons... psychological warfare to demoralize their enemies or raise morale among their own side... of course, that only is a case when you have a troop to play for, and to do the business of fighting so the musician can switch to their instrument instead of having to figh for their lives...)
