Being a bard in tESO
since every character already has the emotes for making music this shouldn'd be that hard to implement. It's already very lorefriendly, as we know that the nords take great pride in their bardic talents. This could be a skill line such as the thieves skills or per example the psijiic skill line, or maybe a full character class. (New character class, yay!)
Some skill ideas:
Drums of war/battle drums: (obvious) boost to speed/damage, imagine 1 (or more) bard(s) drumming you into battle
Lute: increased restores (maybe life only)
Flute: Increased restores (maybe magica only)
Weird ass Khajiiti thing: (stamina comes to mind)
Even singing could be a thing, maybe even combined with an instrument.
It would be amazing to have a band of bards option, linking multiple instruments (or more of the same for added bonus to the mentioned effects), as in a group of wardrums, imagine the feeling it would give you when you have 8 drums of war when you charge into Cyrodill to wreak havoc upon your enemies faction. It would be amazing to have (when partied up for example) the audio to sync with eachother for that massive feeling, slightly increasing audio levels when you do. Maybe even debuffs for enemies in the vicinity of your wardrums as a kind of 'fear' effect.
Songs and legendary instruments could be searchables much like recipies and/or treasure maps, having massive buffsongs be like those non combat pets that you have to get multiple pieces for before ou can put it together, minor songs could be shared in a same manner as lycantrophy or vampirism.
There could be a bards college with specialisations.
Also imagine the roleplaying effect or even the sporadic dance parties you sometimes see in the bigger towns, with high level bards having a full band (drum, lute, flute, weird ass khajiiti thing and a singer) all in sync, maybe even with autosync on /dance when a party of bards is going.
Feel free to brainstorm with me, me and a friend who sadly doesn't play anymore came up with this maybe a year ago but we never got around to working it out more, so this is a smaller version out of the top of my head of what we came up with on a long night of simply running around, gathering and furious smashing off the keys on our keyboards.
DAOC & Everquest had bards. I played one in vanilla EQ you had to swap instruments while fighting to use specific skills.
Mostly people wanted you primarily for group speed buff that let you run super fast.
DAOC had bards/minstrils/skalds respectively they were a mix of light tank/magica.
In Star Wars Galaxies one profession was dancer. While gaming you suffered wounds to your mind / health / stamina that reduced their capacity. To heal & buff mind pool you went into cantinas & watched people dance... seriously. There was actually people who did that.

But it's true, I'm so sick of classes in this game, they don't really have an identity and leveling up skills is boring. If only the classes felt real or there weren't any classes, just skill lines, it would be awesome.

I remember those in EQ. Did you ever read the tale of Fansy the Famous Bard from EQ? It's hilarious.

Been there, posted that: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/387560/additional-guild-ideas-mk-iiFeel free to brainstorm with me...
No, no, you have to do it -traditionally-, and tie them up gagged in a tree:Only if I have an option to smash the lute over bard's back, put the drum over their head and shove the flute all the way up their you-know-what.
So would be carrying a stick... IF there was no magic. And then proceed to gut them using a proper weapon just to make a point why organising a musical perfomance in the middle of a battlefield is a bad idea.
