Didn't ESO reprise the Volkihar family story already with Majorn the Ancient and his rebellious son Valeric? It's part of the Eastmarch main quest line.

Majorn the Ancient is explicitly identified as a member of the Volkihar clan, so the Volkihar bloodline must already be established at the time of ESO in 2E 582. Clan Volkihar exists.

The Eastmarch quest dialogue also says Majorn is building forces for a coming war. Maybe that's what we're getting in 2020.

Yet the question remains, where can the Vestige fit into the Volkihar family's history? The Vestige tends to kill all the bad guys. How can the Vestige have a titanic end-of-questline showdown with Harkon or any of the other Volkihar that are in TES:V ?

There may very well be a war against the Volkihar clan in the coming expansion, but it isn't going to be the Serana story, nor is it going to be the story of how clan Volkihar got started.

Yes Majorn the Ancient is a member of the Volkihar Clan, as mentioned by Rala. I forgot about that quest.

Why not just do the whole questline over again ESO style? I mean Dawnguard already exist, or at least the castle does since it was during the Second Era that the Jarl of Riften put his son in it. Now we also have Volkihar Clan, I say label Falmer as Goblins for "lore" reasons and let's do this. I am kidding of course, that'd be dumb.

I do not think we will get new class this time, new skill line for sure though. Most likely updated Vampire line, but that would not be new.. so must be something else coming too, perhaps new weapon line.

There was a rumor almost a year back when Bosmer lost stealth that ZoS was planning to implement a stealth skill line system that could be learned on all races.

If that rumor is to be believed, and if the leaks for Frost Atronach crates with new Nocturnal tattoos are accurate, I'm hoping its a chapter having to do with batting for Team Nocturnal (rather than thwarting her like past DLCs and chapters).

Of course I'd also love content that let's you side with the Reach... but doubtful that will happen.

I do think we might see Solitude and I wonder if that involvement will Meridia showing off her true colors and turning on the vestige. Becoming the next big bad that has to be stoped. Solitude would be a good place for such a plot line since she had that big temple there, Yeah the one you have to send the beacon to in skyrim. The one that became a meme. I think maybe troubles being stired by Meridia maybe purifying the citizens through her temple attempting to purify the region. Now maybe this threat could make it so the Volkihar could be potential allies. But it wouldn't make sense for them to be the villains as the people of solitude would have likely driven them off. They been hold up there in that castle for many years. But I think Meridia would be the great focus scope villain or at least I hope so because she makes a much better one then Nocturnal. We will see what happens though when they announce it.

    What we know:
    - Harkon was supposed to be a King of Haafingar region during or after the events of ESO.
    - NPC dialogue hints Solitude as the destination.(For new chapter)
    - ZOS loves milking nostalgia.

Therefore: Next chapter involves Molag Bal's Bussiness with Harkon, and Serana confirmed.

If it is to be vampire focused content, one hopes to goodness that they revisit the vampire "skill tree" and vampirism in general... to... revamp it... (that has to be worth an agree from you, surely :p )

Because in its present format almost universally, but for a few niche builds, people become a vampire purely for the 30% damage protection and 10% mag recovery, rather than the fun and experience of being a vampire. That to me seems deeply sub optimal and not how it should work, especially when compared with the experience and enjoyment that comes with Werewolf (even in its nerfed state).

I think there should be passive bonuses, but perhaps an ultimate skill line in a similar vein to Werewolf.

What do you mean as per usual the last two chapters were new untouched zones. It doesn't matter what ZOS does they're is always some grumpy ass who isn't happy cuz it not what they wanted. I'm just happy we're getting more of the map

Whatever you decide on Valerica and Serana, we can probably all agree that Harkon is around at this time. So he can participate if the events are in his patch of the map.

I assume ZOS will keep the three radial gaps between the territories as they fill in the zones, as a disputed border area would be just like Cyrodiil, only two-way, instead of three-way. That rules out Colovia, Nibenay, and probably Whiterun/Dawnstar. So the possible areas are southern Hammerfell, the Reach, and Eastern Black Marsh/Telvanni peninsula.

The Reach in this time would include the Markarth part of later Skyrim, but also part of 3rd Era High Rock,. This area is about as far from the last chapter as possible, so it makes a likely choice. Haafingar may be part of the ESO zones, or just outside, or there may be overlap. We already have The Reapers March zone straddling the later Valenwood/Elsweyr border, with Dune in the same zone as Arenthia. So the Skyrim location of Castle Volkihar is in a probable new zone and Harkon is alive. He can't be left out.

TBF they make the lore, especially since this era had hardly anything written about it and from what I understand this whole thing is a story told by vivec.

Er, Skyrim's dialogue heavily hints that Serana was entombed during the 1st Era, prior to the formation of an Empire in Cyrodiil.

So it might have the Volkihar, but Serana seems unlikely.

    From Wiki...
Her year of birth is unknown, but she was originally locked away in the mid-late Second Era, in between the rule of the Reman and Septim Empires

Durnehviir likewise dates his entrance to the Soul Cairn and the bargain to guard Valerica as a time when "The dovah roamed the skies, vying for their small slices of territory that resulted in immense and ultimately fatal battles." This is almost certainly the Merethic Era, prior to the defeat of Alduin, or after when the dragons are hunted.

The thing about retcons is they can also be used to explain Durnehviir's dialogue, since with Elseweyr we now have a much more recent period when dovah roamed the skies, who knows we might even have a role to play in sending him to the soul cairn ourselves...

imagine next chapter to be blackmarsh.

Yeah I thought a read a leak that it was going to be blackmarsh based on some files people digged up.

Expect blackreach as the datamined files suggest, to be a dungeon not a chapter. Everyone seems to have overlooked the fact there will be a dungeon dlc several months before the chapter. And anything in the games files now is more likely to be part of the thing that's closer to release. Blackreach makes more sense as a dungeon than an actual overland zone, what with it being an underground cave with a dwemer city in it and all..

Nothing from the actual gameplay of Skyrim supports the notion that Serana was imprisoned later than the 1st Era.

Literally all of the relevant dialogue in the game is self-reinforcing of the timeline established on UESP.

Occam's Razor would indicate that with the weight of all of the in-game evidence bearing on the 1st Era timeline, that that is the simplest and best explanation to choose. Too many strange contortions of the in-game evidence are necessary to arrive at any other explanation.

Indeed, trying to hand-waive Serana's initial dialogue as "She was confused because there was an interregnum when she was imprisoned" makes about as much sense as a person during the Three Kingdoms period of China being confused that the concept of the Chinese state exists or had ever existed.

Serana is obviously perplexed by the very existence of a human empire in Cyrodiil and reacts to it as a novel development.

The water-cooler musings of a Bethsoft functionary smacks of retcon or of a massive lore bait-and-switch that is utterly unsupported by the actual game that was made.

Fanservice. nothing more. friend was right.
Dragons. okay they was okay. hardly swallowable but okay. Vampires, Lord Harkon and Serana? Just excuse me what the ***. Serana was caged way before 2nd era. She dosent say thousands of years beause she just overreacting it. She was caged for reason, as Harkon was happy in his stupid castle.

i understand now why Lawrence Schick left. Fanservice = more money. Well written story = deeper lore and more awesome story. (Morrowind, Summerset). But without him now they just making this 1 year long stories. What will it be next then? Year of the Vampire? Year of the Wolf? Just nonsense. Makes. no. sense.

They should have start a more deeper story into the game after summerset. a story that leads up to the end of the war aand not some fanservice dragons who was so overpushed. every boss is now a dragon. just why?

I actually didn't care for her, I disabled her in console commands and murdered her after she spouted nonsense about not remembering things. It was much more satisfying to complete the questline just not having her yapping.

I killed her mother too and used Thomas the engine to destroy the coven. very very fun times.
