How would You rate year 2019 in ESO ?

The audio/music and writing team did great, I feel for the writers having to somehow create suspension of disbelief for as long as it took to get through the questlines with dragons flying around left right and center which absolutely would have been known through history bar mass amnesia.

The art team was generally ok, but some items for Elsweyr year had 144p quality textures, while others were at 1080HD. The map design was pretty good, if sparse.

Functionally, this entire year sucked majorly, and the glittering up of it does nothing to help. I warn people away from this game if ever asked my opinion of it, no one needs predatory macro transactions and gambling as the primary development focus the way it is in ESO.

Ahh hmm what to say when all things where writed ?

    stagnant

and lots of issues and poor experience

ZOS, look how many we write threads about it.

ISSUES on Eu aren't fixed from more than a year to even now day.

Im not interested anymore in new content dlc's in this game in the way ZOS is doing like it, content isn't impressive when i have 3k hours when ZOS growing this product in predictable way: New zone, with nothing spontaneously stuff. Elsweyr, dragons aren't spowning spontaneous in random places, for me its not fun and intriguing. For me its shot in the foot. I just dont have to do nothing, in this game anymore. Hunting more and more ahievments points its just stupid way of fun. Even farming new gear that gets you only 2% of overal dps its stagnant, even CP are frozen from more than two years and they dont know how to deal with it. So tell me what to do ? Cyrodil isnt competitive due the fact its only big mess. Why not spown big spontaneous random spawn 100m Hp dragons there ?

At this time im logging in to game just for one hour in a week just for sentiment.

Eso in 2019 confirmed me that it is not an MMO.

Eso in my opinion shuld be REMASTERED in every way of expereince of enjoyable if ZOS wants this game to survive on the market in the next year.

The biggest issues right now are poor client performance and the swinging balance changes.

Next chapter should introduce a new weapon skill line or a new cool feature, size of mmo expansion.
No new trial or dungeons would surprise me at all. The game has chose one of the easiest paths. The only remarkably features have been new classes and the content until Morrowind.
The game has been growing horizontally from like 2 years ago, talking in terms of gameplay features.

other than poor performance, broken guild trading system, and nonsensical nerfs with this standardization bs that made pvp unbalanced boring and pve also boring eso is a 5 at best.

Performance is getting worse, monetization is getting more aggressive, obvious shortcuts in design (most doors in Elsweyr perma-padlocked, etc.), mind-boggling dramatic yo-yo swings in combat balancing, decades-long established lore tossed out on a whim (trading Bosmer stealth for a PvP only racial passive that literally no one wanted or asked for.... seriously?) And sacrificing hero characters in the main story to save the world only to bring them back to life to sell DLC..... so many areas they could have improved, instead they are truly "killing it" one day at a time.

Shudder to think how bad things may become in the coming year. 2020 may be just around the corner, but their vision certainly isn't.

Late to the thread but for me a 4.

Content was super interesting, but sadly my experience of it was overshadowed by technical issues and the ever increasing predatory nature of ESO's monetisation.

Although I am a huge fan of Khajiit and their culture and the year basically revolved around them...I began getting frustrated already with the first Dungeon DLC. And while the art department (as usual) did a teriffic job in bringing Elsweyr to ESO...the overall story was "meh" at best with some nice sprinkles (the drunk Alfiq springs to mind).

What really messed it up was the underwhelming design decisions with the Necro and combat in general. Couple that with the huge technical issues throughout the year, the really awful monetisation that has gotten horrible over the years....and I finally stopped playing in October and also canceled my subscription. I don't see me returning any time soon...

I like this game and will keep playing it, but it just has so many big flaws (some new, some old) that just can't be ignored.

I for one kinda liked the race changes because it made Mag Khajiit more viable. Aside from that I don't really care that much.
The CP system is just kinda there, I really hope they have some good changes planned.
Wrathstone was very enjoyable, the dungeons were fun.
Elsweyr was good content-wise, and I liked the story.
I think Scalebreaker is where most stuff went downhill. I liked the Cube mechanic in Moongrave Fane, it's creative. I found both dungeons a bit sub-par though.
I'm really enjoying Dragonhold so far, but at this point I've given up entirely on PvP (I used to enjoy running BGs often), mainly because of Scalebreaker changes/nerfs. The only balance changes I liked in the whole year were Arctic Blast revert and Winter Revenge buff.
I pretty much only do quests nowadays, and most of the time I can't be bothered to do writs even with the addon.
Glaring server and performance issues are the main thing that kinda drives me away from the game. I don't really want to invest time and money into an MMO that feels like it won't get any better. I'm hopeful and I like it when they say they're working on improving things, but just look at what happened with the Undaunted event and the brand new dungeon finder. We're at a point where they can't do events due to their game being unable to handle the player growth that they seemed so proud of in E3. The main thing that I don't really understand is how is ZOS managing to get away with so much. Imagine if any of these issues happened in any other well respected game. The devs just seem lazy right now, or maybe they don't have enough work force.
Sorry for rambling but I just really want this game to improve on every aspect and it often makes me feel like an idiot for having hope.

Performance is terrible for me. I might have given a higher number if I wasn't a daily player with a subscription. Somehow, paying money every month to witness load screens, bugs and crashes increase significantly leaves me a bit salty.

I enjoyed the Elsweyr chapter and Dragonhold DLC. Not so keen on doing the dungeons but i'd be happy if they'd add a solo mode so you could play through the entire storyline solo instead of skipping dialogue for the dungeon quests.

Sadly the year was overshadowed by server performance problems, crashing, server going down multiple times, events failing. It was a very weak year in terms of performance and that's why I scored it so low

Game went the right direction with some of the efforts towards standards (in terms of skill balance), but there's still a wholesale sacrifice of current customer satisfaction by ZOS's management for new, shiny content that will impress bigwig CEOs with sales figures. That and the stubborn refusal to acknowledge the problem will cause a death by one thousand cuts eventually when the mainstay customers leave.

So, as a PvP enthusiast and a concerned customer, I give it a 3/10. Stop the market scheming.

    Xbox One here.

Cant remember how i voted since it was a while ago. But since this was the year i cancelled my sub and barely play the game it really says it all.

The condition of gameplay has deteriorated to an extent i cant even get through a dummy pass without skills not firing and huge lag spikes (no its not my connection. Its the game. I could play this game fine even on a 10mb/s DL connection without these issues and my current speeds are 10-15x that now). Combine this with every patch i need to completely start from scratch with builds or even bin characters in some cases to remain competitive in end-game content every. Single. Damn. Patch has destroyed me.

ESO was such an amazing game and ive spent thousands of hours and probably thousands of dollars as well on it, but this year was the end of it for me.

I hope i can come back. But im not holding my breath.

I was just watching a ESO video from 2014, and came to the conclusion that Zeni needs to go back in time. Undo the changes that were made for the tissue babies.

    Example: DK's flying into keeps.

The game looked so fun back then. Now it reminds me of a bad movie sequel. The longer is goes the worst it gets.

My first year on PC, and it's not the game I'll remember for the rest of my life.

    It's the players.

I've never made so many awesome friends in a game. And the community as a whole are great. You know, if you act like a decent human being and remain polite, which I do.

The game itself? Not perfect, TBH. But compared to the trash year Elite Dangerous had... Well thank the Maker for ESO!

I actually have a lot of respect for ZOS. Sue me.

    I'd say a 7.

I think Elsweyr was a better chapter/zone than Summerset. It's a zone(s) (counting southern) that I enjoy redoing where Summerset, while great, I do not. Also necro was a miss of sorts with abilities that don't work properly and/or are flat out not worth slotting... it's disappointing. IMO, necro and warden hit the ground as below average vs what other MMOs might do which is making the class a tad strong then nerf it down. Stamden hit the ground strong but Magden was so blah and was that way for years until probably recently. Now it's Magcro's turn, Stamcro hit strong but magcro was just so blah and remains that way (unless in group play)

Guild finder was great, love the dragons, performance changes were awful (I didn't let this count against the 2019 score too much tho since it's not done), multi bidding, while a good idea kind of ruined some guilds. Lag in PvP especially during prime time is an on going issue and probably will be sadly. I didn't let this count against the score too much just because after 4 years I just became numb to the bad performance in PvP. I mostly leveled my Necro too, didn't do as much cyrodiil as I usually do.

I havent had the time to finish all the new content, but what ive seen is promising. What i want for 2020 is fewer events so i have the time to actually play the game instead of farming tickets and outfit styles. Cyrodil has been interesting on EU PC, some good fights and some good guilds running (both enemy and friendly). ESO is still my favorite game after years of playing and will most likely still be in 2020.

These two things. Pretty please put an end to this stuff in Skyrim? Event burnout and locked doors at every turn make the game so much less fun to play. This and quest content not putting a dent in your health. So unexciting. It's time to make some changes and shake things up, a lot. :star:

5, Nice story and addition but performance has really been the worse ever. None of the performance improvements have done nothing but it seems to make it worse for me at least.

Now that I think about it 5 is generous of a score really should be a 3 or 4 because performance has been really bad at times and ZOS has been slow to fix or acknowledge it.

I really liked the story and the new zones. So pve wise it was very good. But pvp wise it was one of the shittiest year I've ever played, the combat team showed us all how useless they are . Wrathstone I liked pvp wise, then it all went downhill and it was pathetically bad combat wise, I don't really have any problem with this patch thank god. Performance wise this game is on the brink collapsing. If they don't fix it soon this game will be dead within 1-2 years.

So for the story and zones I would give this years 8-9
For pvp combat wise would get a 3, the only reason it doesn't get a 1 is because I enjoy this current patch combat wise.
Performance wise its - 10. It's just so bad that I barely play this game anymore.

Performance worse than ever, ZoS not caring at all about Cyrodiil, no new PvP DLC, worse tank meta ever, ZoS ignoring warnings from PTS players, useless new extensions and DLC because overland difficulty=0, the list is long, very long.

Add to this that the engine could use a real upgrade so we get new animated haircuts and cloaks.

    Worse year ever for ESO.

Terrible performance which continues to get worse with every patch, another poorly designed class which half its skills dont work properly, not very good dlc dungeons, new trial that i didnt do but many endgame players say they dont enjoy, mostly ridiculous balance choices of which some were good, the queing system being broken for most of the year and the introduction of many new pay2convenience borderlining p2w stuff in the crown store. Yeah...the future of this game is not looking good at all and it almost feels like the the next expansion being Skyrim is ZOS's last attempt to milk out a few more dollars before they give up on the game.

Voted 7. Generally speaking, I liked the idea behind Elsweyr and the Season of the Dragon. Northern Elsweyr is extremely beautiful - my favorite zone in the game. The lore has been great, i loved seeing the Khajiiti culture fleshed out, and the new housing options have really inspired me to get into housing in ESO. I play on NA and I don't really experience any lag or crashes. I'm mostly a PvE player though and I tend to go check out Cyrodiil once every couple of months. Generally speaking, I cannot complain about performance issues.

    Biggest Downsides:

    1) One of the first things I did in Anequina was ride to its eastern border, expecting to see the Niben or at least a border crossing with Blackwood. It is beginning to become really annoying to have zones blocked off from other zones by walls of impassible mountains. The devs are doing a great job creating new content and storylines, but I increasingly feel that they're forgetting to tie in the zones with the rest of Tamriel. It has a way of killing immersion.
    2) Further to #1, Southern Elsweyr takes the cake in this regard. I would have gladly paid more money for a DLC where Southern Elsweyr is slightly larger and properly connects to Grahtwood and Northern Elsweyr. Not a fan of how the devs follows the "small Q4 DLC zone thing" as gospel. It really led to Southern Elsweyr (despite the very well done story) zone being botched.
    3) A lot of locked houses in Anequina (especially in Hakoshae). Immersion killer.
    4) For a dragon/Elsweyr/Rimmen themed storyline where the topic came up a lot, the writers really went out of their way to skip around Akaviri lore to the point where it became annoying. Akaviri ghosts and world bosses that just happened to be wearing masks was annoying, the locked Tonenaka was infuriating, and those daily Dragonguard references and quests to dig up random Akaviri tombs (where of course you do not end up seeing any) just numbed me to the point of indifference. Eventually (maybe in TES VI), I'd hope to see a real Tsaesci.
    5) Where are the Ohmes?

ESO is a great game and I'll continue following and playing it for years to come, but I am afraid that these little details will continue to add up over time to the point where I will end up seeing ESO as a "botched game."
