Over the years of playing mmorpg's I have noticed people have increasingly stopped chatting ingame and using programs as Ventrillo and Discord instead. I understand the need to use these programs while raiding..but I can't for the life of me understand why guilds post their events on Discord or just sit there typing. What's wrong with ingame? I myself loathe to use such programs..I like watching tv during my playtime and don't want a bunch of people blabbering away while watching my shows. However as guildchats seem deserted it feels like it's either join Discord or play the game without much social interaction?
My biggest issue with Discord and other "free" services is that "Free" services are never really free, they make money from the data they collect on users. If you are all right with not knowing what they collect and how it is being used then go ahead and use it.

I see it like this, there was a time when a guild actually matters. Still does in a few games that are not eso where you can join 5 guilds.
Discord is a good tool to keep you updated on what is going on without having to log in a game and check guild infos(which usually dont hold enough writing space to post most things).
To socialise with your guild mates. That is what MMOs are all about. At least should be. To socialise, make friends. Playing together. You can random chit chat. while not even play the game, have some funny conversations outside the game while you are waiting for the bus or whatever.
You always have all information at hand in one place with enough space to put everything.
I know it is hard to understand, but people is what MMOs are actually about. MMOs are no singleplayer experiences. (Even though newer MMOs try to eliminate most human interaction)
And that is why something like discord is a god given.
Back in the day we had to use a guild website on top of the voice com tools like teamspeak etc. Discord combines everything into one. very useful.

Did not think of it that way! It's true with the 5 guilds things get pretty confusing ingame. Sadly we can't make 5 tabs for 5 guildchats

We can? Not sure about consoles but on PC you can add new tabs to chat and configure them however you like. There are little plus and cog icons at the top right of the chat window to do that.
I love Teamspeak, have even been an evangelist towards it when Discord first came out. But even I must say that Teamspeak has simply just failed to innovate. They ignored the market shift for a good three to four years. They did absolutely nothing. The teamspeak 3 client is virtually still the same as it was 5 years ago.
They also completely missed the mark when it comes to servers. Your average Joe either has to pay to get a server from a provider, or host it themselves (and setting one up requires at least a general level of understanding of the commandline and probably linux). It's just not user friendly for people outside the tech scene to get up and running, unless you are willing to put down money.
Lastly, their policies regarding licensing are terrible. You have to have your own website and hand in proof (whatever that is supposed to mean) to get a non-profit license which will then up the 32 client limit to 512. Mind you, I have two such licenses, but I absolutely see no reason why the average person would go through all that crap when Discord does it at the click of a button.
Then, once you are done paying for your server, or waiting for your license. Guess what? The phone app costs money too!
Once again, I love Teamspeak. I still use it every single day. But as a company they have failed spectacularly at understanding their gaming audience and are now in a desperate last stand to save whatever is left. They lost. And they lost not because of inferior tech or anything out of their control. They lost because of negligence.

Innovate what exactly? The TS does what it's supposed to do, nothing more. It does one thing well.
And again, Discord is a data mining service. Does nobody now days know or care what that means?
....hint: it's not good to link your twitch, discord and Amazon accounts. This is how they put your real, actual name together with your "anonymous" online activity. This is how data mining services work.

Only 3 tabs can be made no?

I definitely have more than three tabs set up.

Not long ago I was kicked out off a guild because the leader wanted to do a normal random dungeon and asked me to go on Discord..I told him I don't have Discord because I don't like using it and would install it later but didn't see the need to use Discord in Fungal Grotto..was kicked shortly after x.x

You are better off not being in a guild with leadership like that. I have been in many guilds over the years, and can tell you from experience; be glad you're not a member of that guild anymore. There are SOOOOO many great guilds with very fun, very nice (and maybe a little prankish) members in them that make playing ESO a grand experience. Discord makes it even better. But mandatory discord and enforcing it tells me, whoever kicked you for not using discord does not have the leadership qualities to run an even marginally fun guild.

To use discord one must first have a guild. Wich I dont.
This is the first I've heard that people use Discord for text chat. I can't imagine why, if they're actually playing the game. How can anyone stand to switch back and forth between screens to do things in the game and then look at a chat outside of it? Blech. I use Discord for voice chat but that's it, and my guild uses guild chat in-game to talk in text.

I can manage what my browser shares, I don't use Alexa, my cell phone is a burner phone without my real information associated with it, I don't use a smart watch, I don't drive a car with Onstar, and I don't have a smart tv. I also do not use anti "social" media.
If we don't maintain our privacy now days, we don't have any. People need to know what data mining is and how it works.

My biggest issue with Discord and other "free" services is that "Free" services are never really free, they make money from the data they collect on users. If you are all right with not knowing what they collect and how it is being used then go ahead and use it.
I agree with the data collection thing.
Do you use Google or any other search engine? They do the same thing. If your that afraid of data gathering, get rid of your computer and your smart phone. Every time you go online someone is collecting something on you.
Now if the fact that I play ESO 2-3 hours most days and that I shopped for socks last week on Amazon is that valuable, hope they get good money for that data.

You can request all your data collected.
^ Do this and check what they collect.
If you scared of data collection. Just leave the internet. Wherever you go, you data will be collected. Literally any website, any game/program that is online collects your data.
