Unless something has changed, rare furnishings drop there more often than normal mode. There are reasons to be there. As a healer main, I dread going there because I have only met one pug tank that could handle the azureblight cancroid. It's unbearable being a healer in that dungeon when you're pugging. I've never been able to get a guild team together for it.
You're right about buggy. The pug team that I beat vLoM with, we had to beat Maarselok at the final fight with 25 million life. Because of that bug. AWFUL.
One of the main reasons that most vet dlc are impossible to queue for on my platform is because there just aren't a lot of people on, and the ones on don't want to deal with that dungeon. It is definitely like a mini trial.
pug it almost everyday. Kinda long dungeon yes, has some skips. Reward is crap, some dude got 900k diagram though.
vLoM is super friendly to healers (most of the time you will be useless) and tanks, just block&roll. So it's mostly super DPS check, single and AoE in different fights. Feel free to insta kick <350 CP DD player from this dungeon or leave that group.

You're almost never going to get a group using the queueing system for a vet dungeon. People arn't willing to put up with randoms who can't do the mechanics.
Yea some of these dlc dungeons feel like mini trials. They tend to be too long so people get them done and never go back
