IC DLC becoming Free this September

Sounds like ZOS is finally making The Imperial City DLC free forever, for everyone.
Even though I purchased the IC DLC outright years ago and already have access to it constantly via ESO Plus, I would say making the IC DLC permanently free forever for everyone is a welcomed change and hopefully it will be a breath of life for that dead zone. Puns intended.

Discuss! :)

You must not play on PC EU. The size of the EP zergs is always rather hilarious. But I agree with the post's sentiment, It will be nice to see some new faces in IC.

    PC/NA, here. It's in the sig. :)

I've only ever logged onto the PC/EU server once, for the Summerfall achievement event last year. Good times. Haha.

As for IC, or any PvP zone/content/DLC, an influx of new/active players is always needed for healthy PvP, whether it be zone faction population or matchmaking queues.
(Hence how Battlegrounds eventually became part of the ESO base-game even though BGs were previously paywall locked behind the Morrowind Chapter upon release.)

So, again, I think IC becoming free and a part of the ESO 'base-game' is a welcomed change for the long-term of ESO's lifespan.
No doubt this change will bring in more players, but hopefully the rise in activity in IC will last and not just be temporary for the Anniversary event.
IC will hopefully be even better when ZOS implements those promised performance improvements in a few months.
IC has way too many loading screens due to the small districts' sizes as it is, already.

Yeah, I like this, too, although I already own it on both servers as part of Guilds & Glory.

Now if only the DLCs I purchased in the Crown Store on the NA server would become available on the EU server. (Clockwork City, I'm looking at you in particular!)

I remember how glad I was that they gave away the Murkmire DLC as one of the daily rewards the month it was released. I had already bought the Collector's Edition on the NA server, but I don't want to buy DLC twice just so I can play it on EU, too.

Nope, that's the reason why the zones good.

The majority of the game is PvE, there is one true hybrid zone, why ruin that? It's easy to farm Tel Var and avoid trouble if you are wise or out a percentage of effort into setup.

I'd prefer the player gank gain to go back to 80% as it was original. Getting Ganked, doing the run to base with a haul etc is part of what's fun down there. Adds spice

Good, IC as a zone characterizes a mode of gameplay and should be be made available to all players

Bad, IC DLC contains multiple dungeons that will now be added in to all players' random pool, rather than having the option to phase out accessing DLC dungeons through the random feature be introduced as a much needed feature

Medium, presumably more Tel Var gear will show up in guild stores?

    How about no. :#
And one would be a fool to do a "run back to base", when all that's needed is to port to a non-poplocked Cyrodiil campaign (7 day works great for this). It's 100% free and only takes a couple seconds - and can't be interrupted by combat.

Nope, the zone is dead in PC/EU (constantly 1 bar pop) and that's also why it will be free: Its an obvious attempt to increase the population.

And its dead because its just not worth the time for most players to loose their TV (translation: loose their precious time) just because they run into a Zerg or some ganker (who is usually waiting for mobs/bosses as distraction). I see PvP frequently avoided in that zone because of this.

    Hilarious... Contradictory responses....

It's only fun for gankers, yet so simple not to get Ganked...? Which is it??

I have had a buzz in the zone as someone avoiding gankers when i was a PvEer and less experienced, there's a buzz to the gamble. Yep i then learnt to gank, and had fun with that too, which often led to the same need to avoid other gankers to secure a haul.

You can easily earn 14k Tel var from soloing a boss in PvE gear. How dull would that be without PvP gank risk? The market would be utterly saturated and folks would be totally border of IC.

The post i responded to was stating ganking hurts IC, people want PvP out of there but how utterly dull would it be without it. Tel Var would have no worth personally let alone market of that matters to folks

Of course its avoided, that's the point I'm making. It adds something that you try to avoid conflict. As i put above, its easy to farm TV soloing bosses, at least a degree of engagement or risk comes from possible PvP.

AND again another contradiction. You don't want PvP there yet you say its dead? If its dead surely there aren't zergs? Or are there? Sheesh.

I'm glad its going free for all, love the zone, but utterly disagree it would be any better without the risk / reward. It would be stale very fast. If folks weren't sitting on a million TV in a days play they would be scrubs.

    There is no contradiction.

    Fact 1: IC is a ganker's heaven.
Fact 2: There is a quick, safe method for getting out of IC without any further risk.

So... what about it? It's not like "the trick" will save you from gankers. It's only situationally useful, once you decide you have farmed enough telvar and it's time to get out. Saves you the EXTRA risk.

All the time you are farming, you are vulnerable to gankers. It'a as simple as that. No "escape trick" of any sort will save you from that.
    Beardimus wrote: »

And that's the problem... there's nothing "good" that you can buy with telvar. Only Hakeijo and the alchemy satchels, and a few PvP sets. All of that you can buy with gold at guildstores (don't remember if the sets are bind on pickup or not).

For IC to be more popular, it needs to have BETTER REWARDS first. Currently it's not worth the hassle.

I agree. I only go their for hakeijo and don't stay long.

Why would I when the only ones that benefit from a longer grind are either ultra tank builds that spam CC when you are cleaning a group of monsters or a balltard "small man" that can never beat you 1v1 and/or get insanely irate if you happen to win with all the odds stacked against you, then have an even bigger group roll around just to "farm" or harass you.

You can't make up how toxic that zone is, and that's why I rarely ever step into it. If I want to fight a ball of idiots alone, there are enough empty keeps in Cyrodiil to AFK in.

Perhaps we should first agree that the zone is dead (for me: always 1 bar population = dead). If we don't even agree with this basic fact I can't see a point of further discussion with you. So do you agree with this? Or do you think is 1 bar populated zones is not dead?

Secondly, if we agree with the previous point, then we can discuss about the reason why this zone is dead. I have made my statements based on long-term experience in this zone and in-game discussions, just FYI.

Nice, but it simply makes me think:
Free IC -> More ppl in IC -> More ppl getting ganked by premades -> more crying on forums -> more nerfs.... :|

Anyway, there must be a catch in it. Usually, when content becomes free (as far as I understand it will become a part of a base game) it is there to attract more people to play the game (is eso player base shrinking ?), or to introduce some new cheesy psychological mechanics to squeeze money out of players.

It makes sense they slowly release their dungeon DLC as free, that way they transition to the base game and the DLC pledge quest doesn't end up with a never ending list.

They should probably upgrade anybody that bought the standard version with the 'collectors edition' and those that bought the collectors with some crown crates. Just to prevent the sentiment of, 'well no point purchasing it now if it will be free in a few years'.
