As already stated by many people, because people are passionate about the game.

If they were not, they would just walk away. People want ESO to be a good game (even a great game) and it frustrates them to see so many issues not being addressed due to the business model being pushed.

I almost don't play for now. Partially because of the issues the game have, partially because I have other games to play and my free time is quite limited. I didn't bought Elsweyr Chapter. Partially because I don't think it should costs so much, partially because I'm not satisfied with ZOS approach regarding the game content and how they communicate with the community. And of course, I'm not a regular subscriber, because of the disgusting payment politics for my country ZOS have, the subscription costs too much.

I said "almost". From time to time I login for daily rewards and to refresh the stock in the guild store. I'm waiting the situation to change to better, so to say.

IMO, ZOS put too much emphasis on making single player TES fans happy when in reality, this isn't that, it's an MMO.

You'll see less care about game direction when they do more F2p events and the remaining vets start leaving.

Conversely, if you go to Reddit, you'll see nothing but praise because that's an overwhelmingly casual environment that are uninterested in mechanics.

i mean reddit players are running 2hander with destro staff etc, they dont really care about the MMO aspect

Why ? Simple answers in the forms of more questions.

Are you sometimes angry at your wife / husband ? Did you leave her / him ? No ? Why ? Probbaly because you love that significant other.

Are you sometimes angry at your kids ? Yes you are, I've never met anyone who has kids that never was angry at them. Did you abandon them in the forest ? No ? Surely because you love them anyway, right ?

Are you sometimes angry at your dog ? Yes ? Did you dump it in a well ? No, because you love that flea-bag anyway.

Elder Scrolls is one of the most beloved franchise in video games history. And a long running one, too. Some of us grew up with it. Kinda like Star Wars, you loved them, but episode 8 was a monstrosity that should never, ever have existed. Yet, you'll go and watch epidsode 9. And probably complain about it.

This game has an enormous potential, that is currently wasted by a completely clueless direction and a dev team that codes by rolling their heads on the keyboard. It's not as bad as Star wars' current state of scripts and direction, but it's pretty bad anyway. Feels like they are milking the franchise but not even trying to provide quality content. As is obvious in Rimmen Necropolis public dungeon, that doesn't have a single loot container. It wasn't even finished before going live, but who cares, right ? They are "killing it".

Well, there is that, and also the fact that the more time and money you invest in something, the less likely you are to drop it entirely. You don't want to lose your investment, right ? So you complain, but you keep going. And investing some more, at the very least in time, and sometimes money. The aversion to loss is very powerful, leading to a sunk cost fallacy.

Is that what you do, with everything, then?

Quit as soon as there are a few bumps in the road?

Assuming you don't, you know why other people don't either.

If you do, you have more pressing issues to concern yourself with than worrying why other people don't.

This game is wonderful on some aspects. The fact some quests directly impact the environment, NPCs reacting differently, and some quests are just epic. New content can be awesome too, and, achievements' hunter that I am, it offers me hours on nice gameplay. But.

But for how it is wonderful in one hand, it can become terrible in the other. Each new patch carry tons of bugs. What was doable one week isn't possible anymore after because a new bug appeared.

Then comes the big lie. You see, something that made me leave GW2 was that ArenaNet didn't respect their promises. No war of guilds, no quest really impacting the environment, and even not that wonderful trinity. And here with ZoS, because, I assume, they prefer to get the money than spend it, for a long time now we have dungeon finder issues. It impacted previous events, and they promised to not push a new event before having repaired the function. And when there is a big load of players, they offer a wrong excuse of "we didn't know". In my coder's opinion, when the server's ram is full, and you try to launch a new instance via DF, because it's not possible, you receive an error, and instead of honesty "server is saturated, plz retry", it lets you think someone has possible refused the instance. It's indeed so easier than put you in an undefinite queue that will explain you plainly "we don't have good enough servers".

Now, let's be honest, PvP side is completely sucked on GW2. Then, why not having differenciated two skill lines, one for PvE, one for PvP, like in GW2? Instead, because some skills are overused in PvP, they are nerfed and it impacts the PvE. As tank, I enjoyed to play TimeStop. Well, thx to ZoS decision(s), I don't use it anymore. The ol' good talons. So people won't abuse of it in PvP. Right.

So, for how I like this game (and yes I continue with ESO+), there are a ton of stuff open to criticism. The main reason I haven't stopped yet is that I have friends with whom I play for over a year now, almost each day of the week, and that spending time with them is so nice I can still endure all the issues I have with ESO. For now.

And ZoS should really look at BRP, try it by themselves, get there is a big issue with that place (and maybe place a vendor before each new arena?).

The vast majority of posts on the forum that I have read during today's maintenance are negative in nature.

So I wondered "Why does the player continue playing if they are not having fun anymore?".

    Any thoughts?

Their complaints are often over-embellished - otherwise they wouldn't still be playing a game that they have stated is "literally unplayable". Some of them don't want to stop playing, they just want an excuse to stop paying.

Which is not to say that the game doesn't have issues, which are mostly - but not wholly - down to ZOS to fix. Some players are badly affected by those issues but still want to play because they enjoy the game, they just want the issues fixed. I'm not convinced that cutting off a developer's revenue stream while arguing for greater investment in the game is the way to go about it.

Thing is, people have paid and complained for years as far as some of the worst issues are concerned. That hasn't warmed ZOS' heart. Maybe they DO need something that reflects on the books to make them act.

Because I have three Social Guilds on PC/EU I am the GM of 1300 players (soon to be 1500). I have built a guild hall that offers everything. I feel I owe it to the players that have chosen to be in my Guilds to carry on. Some days are tough. But it’s nice to offer especially new players a place to start the game.

because eso is the closest to elderscrolls type playstyle available on the internet, and the things i can do in eso is better than any other mmo on the internet as well.
does that mean eso is a awesome mmo? [snip]
most of the time eso is unplayable due to lagg, high ping, glitches, people abusing the exploits and outright cheating in pvp and just a long long list of angering and very frustrating problems.
some people claim passion as a reason for all the complaining, but thats not my reason.
my reason for the anger is coming from a very very long list of stuff that has legitimate reasoning.

There has never been an MMO with an official forum community in love with its developers. The genre taps passions single player games cannot.

It also often stimulates the same brain regions addiction does. Thus, as with all addictions, the addict goes from initially enjoying their fix to needing their fix.

This is why you so often see players who can't play for a time due to life or technical issues simply not come back. The cycle has been broken. They're free :)

It's not all bad. The core game is really amazing, it is just plagued by missmanagement in my opinion. After five years it's not that easy to just move on, especially with the current MMO market.

Yes, that's another huge element - the genre itself is dead. I honestly believe most of the PvP players would have moved on by now but there are no similar alternatives at the moment. The cancellation of Midyear Mayhem, even though not everyone is in love with that event, had a lot of discords buzzing with "where can we go?" discussions.

But the alternatives are mostly arena games at the moment, alas.
