To the OP: tried the game again today after a 6 month break. 5 minutes in and I'm already: nope! And now uninstalling again, heading back to Skyrim and Morrowind.

As many others, I've been playing Elder scrolls games since Arena and have played every one of them. :) ESO is for me an amazing game for many reasons and yes there are problems that need to be addressed.

Voicing these problems through the Forums is important. These threads often express the depth of feelings of the poster that are, just because we are human, difficult at times to contain. It's not always easy to live the phrase, "It's not what you say, but how you say it" when emotions run deep, and there is a need to vent. Though I understand, I too would prefer the use of honey to vinegar content, to be sure. :)

Having shared my two cents, and as to why they are still here? They are here still simply because of their love of the game. :)

    I’m not anymore

The company doesn’t care about the game, the players, or communication. No more sub from me, no more raiding since it’s broken, no more BGs cause they’re broken, no more Cyro cause it’s broken, no more dungeons because LFG is still broken as it has been for years.

    This game is absolute dogs-

Log in for a daily or two, then leave because there’s nothing worth doing

To each his and her own ofc. And it saddens me to abandon my khajiit again. But the whole feeling of ESO isnt cutting it for me. Doesnt feel like a proper game where I can spend hours anymore...wich makes me sad...

The vast majority of posts on the forum that I have read during today's maintenance are negative in nature.
So I wondered "Why does the player continue playing if they are not having fun anymore?".
    Any thoughts?

    Still having fun, just disappointed.
I've been playing a lot less as of late, still have ESO+ but not sure i'm going to keep that.

It seems the huge blob of band-aid patches is finally beginning to crumble ...

If you could see the hours played for the loudest complainers, you’d probably see thousands of hours logged. I’ll make points about changes I’d like, but don’t go on screaming rants because it simply isn’t that important to me personally. It is for a lot of other people though. I’m still angry they cancelled Petticoat Junction.

While this game is currently not worth pay2play it's pretty damn good value for a buy-from-sale2play casual MMO while waiting something worth investing into to appear.

True, it would be nice with less loading screens and abilities actually happening, but have no problem at all to enjoy it as it is.

I am keeping an eye on it but by no means am i playing it.

The game has become a joke to me. It's been going the wrong direction for a very long time.

If i could i would refund it tbh. All it does is annoy me. To be fair the only reason i keep an eye on it is of friend who play it nothing more.

    My biggest grudges are:
    1. Terrible balance when it comes to PVP
    2. Tons of ignored feedback (todays patch notes yet again prove how incompetent the balancing team is. and you can delete my comment for that i don't even mind anymore)
    3. Necromancer is a completely broken class and it boggles my mind how they have not fixed blastbones yet. Not only they fail to clarify if they even will....
    4. Honestly my biggest problem is that i start the game for 5 min , and i am frustrated right at the start.
    5. Terrible group finder
    6. Terrible lag spikes
    7. Eso just decides to not work sometimes
    8. Buffing already strong classes and yet ignoring the ones that need help the most

I enjoy to social aspect of the game , but gameplay wise (especially in the latest expansion) i honestly think the game is [snip]. It is what it is . Trying out Eso + was the biggest mistake i made .

If it wasn't for my guilds i would try to refund the entire game to be honest

The only positive thing i found are the players . Have to say i had only 1 bad encounter in my entire play time.

Player since beta and this update is what brought me to quit the game.

To be fair, I had been holding on only for friends. The bugs, minor and major, on top of very poor communication or just blatant ignoring of actual issues was finally too much.

The forums is hardly a place to judge where a game stands in terms of quality cause more players just come here to whine, troll and rage than compliment.

Most games have problems, one of the most popular games in TES history had a ton of them (Skyrim)… I mean heck there was/is a theory that console performance was the reason we didn't get more DLC's but whatever... moving on.

In games it becomes what you can tolerate over seeking perfection of any kind, cause you won't find a perfect game. I personally think that the game is doing just fine, probably better this year than others honestly. The only problem I have with communication by ZOS is that sometimes it's hard to find where they spoke of something, so it seems like no communication when they probably spoke of it during an ESO Live or a twitch stream or a Reddit thread/post or somewhere on here. Maybe they do need to communicate even more than they already do but they definitely talk to us more than other gaming companies. ZOS should advertise when they have spoken of something, maybe even have a spot on the main site. "Check out this twitch stream we speak of..." "Check out this reddit post" or "forum thread about" or whatever.

yes, and they WILL sue anyone that makes an mmo like thiers.
anything that comes even close to elderscrolls work is reported, blocked, and taken to court for copy infringement.
so even if someone had billions of dollars and tried to make similar mmo to eso, it would be stoped and eso would be still standing, so basicly we have to just play eso if want a mmo that has the fun parts eso has, because right now, eso only one that is best to play, even tho its [snip]
    only choice left.

I love the game, but dislike the way it is managed and the frenetic pace of the content production being prioritized over general upkeep and maintenance. If they allocated as many resources into the later as they currently do the former, this game would likely be all around amazing and they'd have a clientele base that would boggle their minds. I suspect I will continue to play the game until it gets to be so unplayable (it's on the cusp right now) that the awesome content becomes inaccessible.

It's kind of like being in a relationship with someone who develops a dysfunction. You love them, and make the choice to stay with them because you keep holding out hope they'll change and things will go back to being good again. Eventually though, most people wake up and end those relationships when the frustration begins to outweigh their affection for that person.

Balance that with the number of people who bought the game, never came to the forums, and just quit.

They SOLD 13.5 million copies as of last report.
Nowhere near that many play, and most of those who quit probably never came to the forums to state that they had issues.

Try to tabulate the difference between the number of people who bought Vs the number who left.

We probably have closer to a 20% to 25% retention rate, and thats not even counting the people who tried the 'free weekend' deals and decided not to bother buying because they logged in to play the lag and busted stuff, and didn't take time during the weekend to come here and be swayed by OTHER players who voice annoyance over stuff that is supposed to be in the game but just doesn't work.

Yeah, people come here to complain, most still play through hoping it improves before they leave.

Many more people than the ones that come here just quietly quit.

    Nah.

I play a lot, but I'm not addicted.

I can (and have) walked away from games I played as much as I do this.

I'm just one of those weird people who can just cut off from things, if I want to.

    Smoking, for example.

I find it very strange that people start smoking, or doing other drugs and then can't stop.

Yeah, it's mildly challenging, but it's definitely doable.

Anything you know you don't need to do, to stay alive, should be relatively easy to quit.

In terms of games, while I'm angry/annoyed, I'm still engaged.

When I stop being annoyed it means I no longer care and when I no longer care, it means I'm gone.

    Yep thats fair.

Honestly I would direct this thread more to the "the game is dying" threads that have popped up lately claiming the end is nigh and all that.

I would rather those people just stop playing instead of spreading that kind of uneducated vitriol everywhere. Most of these threads come from people who havent played much or claim to have played a lot and tend to be prone to panic. They care too but they aren't helping really.

I quit ESO at the beginning of the year, mostly from burnout but also the issues were becoming more annoying. Recently I got that itch to play a solo friendly online game again and came back here to see how things were with ESO. They appear worse than when I left, so I can't justify the ridiculous long install time, which is too bad since I have around 3000 crowns still and I think 1.3 million gold I saved up to buy a house.

Moved onto GW2 and today got BDO. BDO's combat already has spoiled me and makes me wonder if I could ever go back to ESO's.

Truly hope ESO can improve things
