Fun thread: Do you ever feel like a fashion snob in ESO?

Sometimes I be walking around in Tamerial and look and think what where they thinking with that dye job.

Or there be moments I grasps they have same hat as me.

It gets really crazy when you have emote or memento face off and winner is who looks best in the process.

And end of day though, I laugh yat such experiences... only in eso.

So do you guys have such experiences?

I will admit I can be quiet judgemental of other peoples dyeing choices. People who dye their equipment in one colour, for instance. Having everything be gold/white/black is NOT a good look.

Most of the time, though, I typically enjoy looking at other peoples fashion, as it gives me inspiration for my own characters.

I used to live in NYC. whatever fashion snobbery I had - died after experiencing east village. that and the older I get, the more I love ALL THE COLORS. so... seeing color bold color combinations actualy pleases me - I kinda love it when people go all out :) that and contrary to expectations, medieval times were actualy a very colorful place, rather then drab brown sameness people think it should look. I mean... look at the tapestries and paintings made in actual medieval times, with all the vivid coorful outfits, often combining all primary colors at once! yes, i know ESO is fantasy, but its a sort of quasi medieval fantasy :)

Oh yes i am constantly judging other peoples outfits. I sometimes see some that i really like.
    Most of them though....ugh
The most annoying and ugly ones to me are ones where people use casual clothing skins and spam a ton of "glowing" effects. Looks really really stupid to me.
When someone compliments my outfit i always complement them back however even if i don't like it

True, but I would not call ESO a medieval game. I would call it a Fantasy game. Last I checked, entire countries were not filled with the types of weird monsters our characters face on a daily basis.

I gots to have some color in my character's outfits. Which is why I would be glad to see individual dyes that you can add to the account Outfitter be available in the Crown store.

No, not really, I'm pretty live and let live about stuff like that.

Maybe, very occasionally, I will wonder why - but, it's not normally because someone has done something loud, or funny (I get that, even if I don't like it), it's normally because things just don't go with each other, or are a bit boring and dull in general.

People may be thinking it about me, though.

I dyed my Wood Elf Vanguard costume with the Easter dye stamp, last year and it looks like a sunset - coral, aqua and yellow, with an irridescent purple overylay.

Which I like, but I appreciate some others may not.

To be honest, even though I am not a trollish person, in general, mildly trolling the fashion non-adventurous/over-traditional is always pretty funny, in games.

So, if someone on here says they don't like pink, for example, guess which colour is coming out next?

    Same with pets.

If someone says I shouldn't have chickens in my crafting room, due to feathers and chicken poop, guess where my new chicken is going?

False, except for the last part.
@Linaleah is right, people during medieval times wore colorful outfits, the only "restricted" colors were thoses difficult to get (like purple) and expensive.

some colors were restricted. the rest were fair game. and as far as i can tell, our characters are not supposed to be peasants, i mean we rub shoulders with kings and queens on a regular basis. so.. we are allowed to go all out :D

    I mean look at this

    la-recolte-des-raisins.jpg?t=1555156879&

    or this

    vendanges-au-chateau.jpg?t=1555157634&

    or this

    king_harold_tapestry_wallhanging_metth010.jpg

and I can keep going. also - bear in mind that all of these colors are somewhat faded, cause you know.. age - they used to be even more vivid when new.

even peasants made an effort to at least use colorful ribbons on holidays and market days. both medieval times and ancient times could be downright gaudy.

    Purple was, yeah.

Some other bright/intense colours were restricted more by the cost of their ingredients, from what I understand.

But, pinks are easily produced via fruit and veg dyes and pink is one of the main colours people complain about, on here...

Normally, the dye colours of the working class of Europe (who had no access to expensive dyes) would have been paler and/or slightly muted.

However, probably not as muted as people tend to think, if they looks at paintings and artifacts from the time, which may well have faded and/or have a layer of grime over them, dulling the colours.

I like trying to hit the fine line between using bright colours and being mistaken for an NPC. Each of my characters has a colour scheme but the specific dyes vary depending on what I'm dying.

I like looking at what other people do with their characters. I don't really have any specific standards, but I prefer things that look like a cohesive look rather than just whatever dropped. Although I once saw someone who did a good "ragged adventurer" look with a mix of prisoners rags and low level mismatched armour.

Of, course. It's not called Fashion Scrolls Online for nothing is it? :) Or is that just what I and my friends and guild colleagues calls it...

I like dressing up my characters. I'm all for them to be immersive and fitting to Elder Scrolls and their own personality, so they are highly unlikely to be wearing glowing skins, extreme styles and whatnot. Which unsurprisingly makes me go urgh at some people's glowy outfit choice, or wish I could re-do someone's gaudy dye job, because it is literally hurting my eyes with its brightness.

Although, that doesn't mean I'm against colour or flashy. Which a lot of people seem to believe when someone says "immersive", even here in this thread it happens. Quite the contrary. You can be colourful, flashy and immersive at the same time! It doesn't have to be the one or the other.
Almost all gaudy outfits are colourful, but not all colourful outfits are gaudy. It's all about how you implement it.

Just smacking on the brightest and glossiest contrasting dyes without thought is not going to look well.
Using the ultra glossy dyes everywhere is usually not a good idea. As an example, when done on leather material, your outfit end up looking plastic or made out of shiny latex.
Using overly bright or dark dyes will make the colour and outfit look flat, with no details. It looks unnatural, like bad textures.

So when people use a combo if these two, I will turn into a fashion snob and look elsewhere. Because they are nothing but a flat blurry bright/dark spot with no outfit to be seen!

I did have a fun "fashion interaction" during the last week of the anniversary event, though. Near the writ drop off I saw someone wearing the same hat my character was, but it was matched with a very different outfit that looked great. So I started write him a message, to compliment his character, as I always try to do to people if I like the look of their character. But just when I was about to send it I got one from him that complimented mine. It ended up with us posing and telling how dashing the other looked. Writs forgotten in the name of style :*

As much fun as I'd think it would to do a Blair Waldorf rendition, and go around Tamriel yelling 'Sandals are not shoes!', I'm not really a fashion snob when it comes to outfits and costumes (besides, most of my characters wear sandals ). Fashion is a very creative form of expression, that's true in the game as well: I've seen so many different styles, from argonians dressed like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to elegant gentlefolk fit to RP in Alinor Palace, and although I have a specific aesthetic for all my characters' style, I think being judgemental means missing out on the fun, creativity, or cleverness in what someone else has created, and oftentimes I find elements that inspire me even in outfits that are generally not to my taste.

I can't say I pay too much attention to what people are actually wearing, but I do see the dyes. Most of the time, I'm just running to my destination, so I just don't see the actual outfit (unless it's something really ridiculous). Dyes tend to stand out more.

There's one guy I keep seeing while doing writs in Alinor who wears a costume dyed with what looks like Abyssal Beryl and Bloodroot Wine, possibly in combination with the vHoF skin. I keep thinking, "Gods, man. That burns my eyes." Every. Time.

I did have to laugh when, as I was standing in Mournhold waiting for my friends to finish something before a trial, somebody whispered me about my Altmer's outfit. They called him a "tall glass of wine" and complimented his dye job. He is one of those characters running around with mostly gold armor.
