Why is steam wanting to redownload my game?

Anyone else having this issue? i opened my launcher from the files and used the repair option and i am waiting for it to finish.

Steam is forcing a full vanilla download that will have to be updated again through launcher.
So far, nobody has explained anything.2 -

✭yes - says eso is not installed even though it is. Tells me to reinstall the whole game for 55gb, although I can play if I use the game launcher directily in the steam folder. Its as if zossteamstarter.exe has become unlinked from the steam library1 -

i closed steam and tried to run eso. It wants to install a 9gig update.1 -
When did this happen? I was playing through Steam about an hour ago and didn't have to redownload anything .. now wondering if it will happen when I get home ..0 -

{Eilalenya Alkinaerith} - Strikingly beautiful High Elf of the Aldmeri Dominion - Seducer of men and elves - Learning the Healer ropes. Heals for fun.
{Blue Bear-y Pie} - Think-outside-the-box Mastercrafter Warden - Enjoys long walks on the beach - Protector of Tamriel's fauna and wildlife - Breton lady.
{Neopatra} - Grumpy old Veteran - Wreaks havoc in Cyrodill - loves her grandchildren - Redguard Brute. In case of bad mood she turns into a werewolf.
{Sneaky little Maraya} - Gorgeous Redguard Bombshell - Evil stamsorc who loves to clear dungeons of monsters.

{Daisy Deathbringer} - Foul necromancer that likes to hang at funerals and graveyards. Mostly plays with the dead, does not deal much death.
{Major Defiler} - Lovely necromancer who likes to study life. Puts the word romance in necromance.
{Cindiana Jones} - Defected Templar. Very deadly in Battlegrounds. Likes to wander around Cyrodill.
{Sideskirt Bob} - Nightblade who got his nickname when a lady Nord mentioned his waistline.0 -
skrvbb10rd✭✭✭The "update" changed from 23.6 GB to 65.1 after pausing it. Even going through the launcher in the files it's saying "install" then that I don't have room... and I don't have room because ESO is already there! Is this the same for you if you try to launch outside of steam?

coj901✭✭✭So i tried the repair option in the launcher and it said i needed more room on my hard drive. sooo i made 70g available on my HD and tried it again. Im downloading 2gigs on the laucher..fingers crossed.0

LordWenzel✭✭✭For me was 50GB total. Started with a few GB and then the number grew up until 50 while downloading. But that's not the problem. The problem is that crappy game launcer requires me to download some files, but it works like *** and there's still that issue of it crashing and forcing you to use a VPN.1 -

coj901✭✭✭SUCCES! ok so it looks like just by opening steam the downloaded auto started. the 9% of the update i guess corrupted the files. When i opened the launcher. it tried to download 9gigs. When i used the repair option it said i needed more space so i made enough space for another install of eso. Finally reopened the launcher and ran repair again. I know have the "Play" button. Since i got this game in 2015 i guess i have the option to run the launcher from the files. You folks that have the only way to open from steam im sorry

✭Ah, my wife just told me that once her download completed (much faster than anticipated), it... Restarted from zero.
Yep, you read that right. She spent several hours downloading the whole game and now she has to do that again. And there is no reason to assume it won't be the case AGAIN when the download completes again. Gotta love those issues.1 -

erixtone✭✭✭I was leveling an alt in Ali'kr Desert, when I got an update to my graphics card. I exited game, installed, and restarted my computer. Now Steam is telling me I need to download 67GB.
I am not impressed.1
