An Imperial account upgrade - is it worth it?

Hey,

I am interested in your opinion if nowadays, in a light of incoming racial trait changes, is Imperial upgrade worth any interest at all?
My guildies do try to talk me out of the idea of buying it. I wanted to use that race to create and play stamina based sorcerer...

What is your opinion about that?
Thanks!

Play any race and any class you want. You pay for the game after all. It's your choice. There is no right or wrong way to play. I have a khajiit magsorc dps who performs great in pve and PvP. Most people would make fun of me for my choice. Go for it.

Currently Imperials are nice for stamina dd, extra stats are great. But yes, looks like nerfs are coming :/
I will buy it only cause I like how Imperial girls look, I like them most of all other races. But I'm hesitating to buy discounted race + name change token, exactly cause I'm afraid of upcoming racial passives nerfs :/
...And if developers will somehow buff all races and make it possible to mix khajiit thieving passives with Imperial max health and stam, I will race change my main character to Imperial. If everything will be nerfed though, at least someday I will have nice mule character.

Thank you guys for your replies. I do not need another mount, nor use any non-combat pets at all. I wanted to do that for racials of Imperial only as in other circumstances I would rather play as Orc just for the heck of it :)

Rob Garrett wrote in a post about U21 :
"(...) When selecting a race, players should have multiple effective options for any given gameplay role.
The combat power provided by each race should be more equalized.
Players should feel a stronger sense of power progression through racial passives as they level up.
The unique feeling and flavor each race provides should be retained and enhanced where possible, and remain faithful to established lore.(...)"

and... that did not enlighten me in any way...

Yes friend, come to the orc side !

Back to the subject at hand : I myself am torn. Even though I have One (1) character I play only and don't plan on rolling another one anytime soon, I like having the option available. Imma see if there's a crown sale on friday. If there is, I'll get it, otherwise, I'll just get the Jarl's regalia thing (the costume' names have a hint of absurdity at times, for real). PRIORITIES.

Well the horse is ok, the pet a mudcrab (ok if you’re into Skyrim, I think one of the kids wants to keep a pet mudcrab lol). You get the imperial motif (like 40k for the whole book nowdays). Ok stats for a stam player. I unno I got it. Though now mostly maining a dunmer magdk lol. I think imperial was more of a thing when it first came out.

Love the horse, hate mudcrabs, have no use for Impies as a race. So until it shows up on a deep sale price, I won't be getting it. And yeah, I could use a link to the racial changes.

Too many people read the min/maxing sites. Not saying they're rubbish, but they really only count along the absolute bleeding edge of the game, and not too many people here are playing at the level of skill where a missing "right" trait in racial or armor will ever be noticed.

Also have a khajiit magsorc. Was in Vvardenfell waiting to enter battlegrounds. Another player commented on my choice "I can respect that". Then we ended up on the same side in bg match. Get the comment "Well, this is ackward" lol.

Owns the Imperial Edition of this game. Worth it, in my opinion @maciopa .

I've got a stamsorc Imperial who does pretty well as a tank. I've also got a couple other imperials that I am still leveling because I like the way they look so I find myself using them more than any other race.

If you're more interested in eking out the best numbers possible, Imperial might not be the way to go but if you want more options or have specific character ideas that would make use of that race, I say go for it!

Do you like Imperials as a race? If you do then buy it. Otherwise, not worth it IMO.

Personally Imperials I always found boring, and I'm not a min/max type of player, nor do I tank. So Imperial edition just isn't worth it for me.

I do have the upgrade, but if I didn’t I would wait because I feel like there’s a strong chance it becomes included in the base game or obsolete when the racial changes come. My feeling is it could go one of two ways. Either they include it in the base game or it becomes less appealing because you’ll only get one or two passives unique to a race and the others will be chosen. So unless you just have cash to burn and don’t care I would probably wait and see how things shape up.

Bought mine during pre-release lead up.

Never used my imperial for anything but crafting some armor once, and riding the horse about 6 times.

hmm, seeing as the imperial upgrade is currently sold at 1470 that'd be 245 crowns per use

My mainly used tank is an Imperial Warden and i have an Imperial DK who i have played as both a tank and a DPS.

Imperials in general probably won't be over buffed or nerfed. If the buff them then people will scream "PAY TO WIN" like they do with literally ANY Warden changes.

Can't see them being nerfed much either as they're a "strong" race but are not among the perceived "BiS."

Thank you all for your input.

Based on your answers I have bought that package and now I am waiting for a price reduction for additional character slots - need 2 of those.

One will be used to create an Orc Stamina based Templar, the second one will be an Imperial Stamina based Sorcerer.

Yes, I am an alto-holic so I do not stick just to one character as I like to play them all.

Imperials make good crafters since they already know that expensive style motif.

Also you can make them look like any human race so that’s good.

Imperials get max health, where is all the “best for Stam” coming from?

Their max stam increase. I mean, that's the thing with the Imperials, they get big bonuses to Max Health and Max Stam, but have no recovery increases. In the right hands, they can outperform Redguards, but you really need to know what you're doing.

Also, I don't think Imperials are going to get nerfed moving forward. They're a very solid pick for Stam DPS or tanking, but they're not the only option, nor are they frequently touted as the "BiS" option for anything (outside of this thread.) Redguards are probably going to end up taking a bath, same for Argonians. Nords may be getting a buff, because right now their racial passives just don't matter. But, the goal is to get the game to a state where, "hey, you want to minmax a tank? Pick an Imperial, Argonian, Nord, or Orc. Want to minmax a StamDPS? Pick a Bosmer, Khajiit, Redguard, or Imperial." As opposed to now where those lists are usually culled down to Argonian and Redguard respectively.

    Imperials are the best race!
...i say that because of personal opinion and not objective in game data on them. Im totally biased, cause of my love of imperials lore-wise. I use an imperial for a magplar dps.... so dont use my opinion

I bought the upgrade when I got the game - in February 2014 - and I don't regret it because I got a lot of use from many of the benefits, but I think if I was considering it now I wouldn't buy it because so many things have changed.

I've never used the Pledge of Mara because I don't play with 1 other person often enough, I have more than enough horses and pets, the ability to change any armour to the Imperial style for free anywhere in the world (useful when you pick up an ugly piece with good stats) is gone, the motif is a lot cheaper than it used to be and my only permanent Imperial character is my crafter (and I only picked Imperial for him because of the motif).

I do like having the option to make an Imperial character (the idea of a TES game where some races are locked or restricted still seems weird to me), but I'm not a min-maxer so I don't think it would be worth the price for me.

Depends on personal preferences, I guess. I quite enjoy playing my baby tanky Imperial Stamina Dragonknight, so Lucilla here is next in queue for levelling up to 50, as soon as I am done with my Redguard Stamina Sorcerer.

It's overpriced for what you get.

I purchased it because there's a character I wanted to role play that really works better as an Imperial. Oh, and there were real crown sales back in the day that made the price more reasonable.
