Steam is a snapshot of players on that platform. It doesnt reflect anyone not using it and anyone not even on PC.

I wouldn't use steam as a yards stick for anything, folks are bailing from steam like rats from a sinking ship due to thier draconian Refund policies (which they are getting their asses sued off for btw) and the fact that the community makes 4chan look like the musical group "Up with people"

But ... But don't you know? Elder Scrolls Online is dead and has been dying since April 4th 2014!

To be fair though, it did have a hideously bad original release. So kudos to ZOS for bringing it back from the brink of collapse at the beginning and making it into the game it is today, even if I find some choices questionable.

Eso is certainly healthy.

You can disagree on direction, content or nearly anything that's "your issue"... but healthy, I don't see how that one is so hard to get.

The article you linked is an opinion piece. There was no vote, there is no metric but what an interested author thinks and feels about various MMOs.

So, that's nice, but practically means almost nothing.

Yes, and MMO is not exclusively an MMORPG. There are other Massively Multiplayer Online genres that are not RPG's.

While I am not a fan of WoW, I cannot argue that it still ranks as a top MMO.

It is still able to require a subscription and probably still has more subscribers than ESO has had in total combined with FF which I believe also requires a subscription. WoW also still develops new content.

Just because do not like the game or feel it is so old school cartoony in appearance and style of play does not mean it is not still healthy.

Steam stats are meaningless for ESO. It is a fraction of PC users and does not include console. It can also be argued the type of player does not reflect the overall playerbase here. It certainly cannot be argued it does reflect it.

not everyone plays through steam.... no one (like me) who bought the game in the first year or so plays through steam. bear in mind the game shipped around 750 000 copies on release.

This is entirely true. I came back to wow couple times seeing what it's like. It's empty, vacant of new players altogether. It's just addicts that can't quit the game for their gear, mounts and achievements outweight their lives.

Not to mention the community has become much more toxic and lacking in people who play for fun, it's really just a giant ingame ego contest.

I recently resubbed to WoW and I see a lot of players in the cities and popular leveling zones like Stranglethorn. I think more players are leveling again since they scaled all the content similar to how eso does.

I recently quit cause of how much cash shop "Content" there is now rather than in game stuff to do, but I still really do like ESO as a game itself is great imo, but yeah everyone has there doubts in different areas.

It literally doesn't. You say in WoW there is absolutely nothing to do until new expansion hits. ESO is exactly the same.

I am glad some random reporter from some random news site thinks ESO is the third "healthiest" MMORPG out there, but that's about all there is to say about this article.

You know....every time I read a post like this I think about the sub Redditt I read a couple years back....where WoW players were having a rage fit over ESO success......

Anyway WoW is doing great in the same way FFXIV, ESO, and GW2 are doing great....none of these games are getting the lions share of customers but they are all still very profitable.

I would guess that most people are playing from the client. I know not to buy games with cash shops and their own launchers on Steam. Resolving any purchasing issues when they arise is a huge PIA. Launchers launching from Steam are also annoying and buggy. And that's coming from someone with 150 games on Steam (I'm a huge supporter of the platform and buy 99% of my games on it).
