3. The Elder Scrolls Online
Boy, the start of this list reads exactly like last year, huh? Except that this is, without a doubt, one of the best years The Elder Scrolls Online has had in terms of releases and public perception. The reason this one is in the same spot is mostly due to the overwhelming health of the higher-ranked titles, not due to it not doing any better. If last year was when TESO came into its own, this year was when the developers proved what they could do with the title.

http://massivelyop.com/2017/12/06/perfect-ten-the-healthiest-live-mmorpgs-at-the-end-of-2017/

I concentrated on Summerset Regression Testing. So that at the end this year ESO moves up to at Least #2 Healthiest MMORPG.

Regression testing is a type of software testing that ensures that previously developed and tested software still performs the same way after it is changed or interfaced with other software. Changes may include software enhancements, patches, configuration changes, etc. During regression testing, new software bugs or regressions may be uncovered. Sometimes a software change-impact analysis is performed to determine which areas could be affected by the proposed changes. These areas may include functional and non-functional areas of the system.

The purpose of regression testing is to ensure that changes such as those mentioned above have not introduced new faults.[1] One of the main reasons for regression testing is to determine whether a change in one part of the software affects other parts of the software.

Summerset looks good there will be complaints, but 3/4 of the players will be having too much fun to worry about the little things.
Good Job ESO, ZOS, Bethesda.

    Not a lot of competition

The game itself is fine for me, could use a little more PVP love but I dont see it happening

what is really annoying is the bugs non correction, the cash grab and all the later Zo$ trends. Hope its perception is impacted like big time so it changes

Not going to lie. Did not expect to see Star Trek Online on that list. Just a few years ago the latency issues had become a relatively big issue. The STFs (their dungeons) started to die from lack of activity because of latency and their heavy handed implementation of the new area caused a lot of backlash. Good to see Cryptic bringing it back around.

As for ESO. This is great news. I know that ZOS is exaggerating or at least putting on a front when they claim 10 million accounts to make it seem as if the game is doing better than it is. But its great that outside sources are taking notice of how well the game is doing.

A little off topic, but did anyone try star trek vr? I saw some play through, looks interesting, but not sure about the motion sickness it might cause. Back on topic, ESO is fun.

Became a fan of Elder Scrolls games after being introduced to Oblivion back in 2007. Still my favorite game from the series. Was apprehensive when first reading about a MMO version of elder scrolls. Almost quit the game after the first 3 months of playing. ESO was a mess back then. The game has certainly come a long way since 2014.
For me, ESO does not rate as highly as GW2.
I'm now waiting in anticipation for the next single player installment of the Elder Scrolls series.

Sorry to tell you, but read the first comment of the article. This list is completely biased and probably bought. The list starts with World of Warcraft? Like Seriously? The forums are flooding with critics, because there is absolutely nothing to do until next expansion. That is over half a year where absolutely nothing is added to the game and this one should be the healthiest?

This article is a farce reading some other titles. Eso does deserve being higher on this list, though.

Healthy meaning the current player base I believe, but it doesn't really show what's wrong with them just how popular they are at the time.

The article is based solely on the author's opinion. Just because it's on the Internet, doesn't mean it's true.

There's also some conjecture that one or more of those games provide financial incentive to be included in the list.

WoW has the highest population of any MMO, by far. You're seriously misinformed if you think that's Blizzard paying off reviewers.

How can a mmo be healthy?

In this case it seems to be a mix of the reviewers general impression of how many people are playing and what they can tell about the state of the company from their activities.

So for example a game studio laying off a lot of staff would count against them, because it suggests things aren't going well and they're having to cut costs. Or a game not getting any updates for an unusually long period of time, although how long is unsual depends on the game. (Or it should, because different games have different release schedules.)

For ESO at the moment that would be if they missed one of their stated 4 releases per year (1 chapter, 1 story DLC, 1 dungeon DLC, 1 free update). Although if/when that happens it may turn out there's a good reason for it - we had nothing for about 6 months after Shadows of the Hist, but that turned out to be because they were working on One Tamriel and then Morrowind.

Ahh the regression test, aka the failing gra efully test or grandma's new hip.

The problem is they havent fixed bugs introduced years ago, so you cant roll back or difference test something that wasnt fixed.

Good on you for actual testing parameters though, i definitely appreciate that.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

WoW forums make the QQ on these look like preschool attempts at QQ. They’ve mastered the art of passive-aggressive trolling, aggressive trolling, dev-attacks, personal attacks—you name it! They’ve had a decade to perfect their whining. Fact remains WoW still has the largest active population and brings in the most revenue out of all the MMORPGs on the market. I’m not proselytizing, I quite loathe the game (but was pretty addicted to it at one point). But facts are facts.

I went back to playing wow after a long break, and I also check out their forums. They have less complaining in a month than these forums have in a day. I went back five pages, and it was some light doom and gloom, but mostly people not understanding the ebb and flow of the game right before an expansion. I think that poster may be a little biased.

    Gratz to ESO.

Have no idea how SWTOR made that list at No. 10 though. They went from 17 servers down to 5 (due to a large exodus of player that happened with the launch of Galactic Command). Put out less content in an entire year than most MMOs put out in one patch. Missed putting out an expansion for their first year since launch. And then finally removed the server population tracking on their site so you couldn't view how light the population loads are on the remaining 5 servers.

Nothing I noted above shows SWTOR to be a "healthy" MMO.

So they are calling game healthy only because certain amount of players plays it ? LOL super high standards of grading and calling games healthy.

When i read this part : "...developers proved what they could do with the title" I think I have something completly different in mind then article creators.
