✭✭Because unmaintained databases can be problematic. So, back up server, do maint, apply patch (if any), test, open.
But yeah, we here on the EU server have not had a good week. Here's hoping that today's patch maint. goes smoothly.

At a guess? Adding stuff like whatever this week's Crown Store items are. Also MMOs often tend to deploy data for future versions a bit at a time. Maybe even (gasp) bug fixes!

EU was down already 3 times since event started. Just because you don't care - does not make people who do, wrong. It's not like these people made the server errors xD
Also, before you call me ungrateful, suggest you read anything I have to say - because I am NOT ungrateful. I am mostly quite grateful. However this much maint for thee EU servers during an event is a bit suck really.

2-6 hours if it is a patch, usually. No way of knowing any more definitive than that.
I keep an eye on the German eso addict thread because their CM keeps people informed rather well.
