Have you have helped finish a long running trial/dungeon?

Occasionally there are dungeons or trials that people get stuck in for hours and hours because the group wipes over and over again but somebody refuses to give in.

Have you ever been recruited into one of these groups and actually helped them finish?

Just curious after I recently joined a long running vMoL group which still didn't manage to finish despite putting in another 2 hours on top of their original 5. In general I've found that the person who sticks around is the main reason why the group isn't finishing.

A few times. Usually a hard vet dungeon, from what I remember I helped some groups finish on the last boss of vICP and vCoA2 as a DPS.

Happens very frequently for me since I mostly play tanks and healers. Ill queue up and get into a group that had a fake tank or healer and got to the last boss and kept wiping. On the one hand I don't mind being the hero and getting a quick boss kill, but I hate it when I'm trying to do a daily pledge and after killing that final boss I still have to redo the first half of the dungeon to get the pledge finished

Direfrost keep.. say no more... it was the last boss and three guildie Direfrost noobs were stuck on it when it came up as their random vet daily.. they had been in there ages and getting nowhere fast. Went in and explained mechanics and the job done first time..All three of them had no idea what CC breaking was and had never even done it on normal before .. would love to have seen them on Tempest Island .. haha

Yep, most of the time it's because they don't know the fight mechanics. Usually just need to explain what needs to happen when and it's pretty much a done deal.

I spent 5 hours tanking vwt scalecaller yesterday. Went through 6 dps and 3 healers because people dcd and didn't come back or didnt have the skill to not die repeatedly. Finally got 2 solid dps for the last boss and cleared it in 3 attempts while teaching mechanics.

I wanted that mask and wasn't going to give in.

rando pugged into a player and their significant other in direfrost. They were at the final boss and they had lost their tank and a dps. I dropped into the dps slot and sent and invite to a mate from another guild to tank. After explaining the mechanics we cleared it the first time.

They had been at it with a few other players and I guess they couldn't figure out the mechanics and they kept wiping.

Used to help a lot of people with pretty much everything, Vet DLC dungeons, skin achievment runs even though we have them already, just with random pugs who seem nice. But the ungrateful and selfishness we have experienced has pretty much put us off ever helping anyone again. Last week we helped a couple of people clear vFL on hard mode, and then help with their no death achievement. Finished it and they got their Worm Wizard personality... silence. After hours spent helping them, literally not a word, just left the group and that was that. After having conversation with them for hours before, adding them to friends list etc. But once they get what they want, you're no longer relevant.

Which really sucks because my girlfriend and I love being sociable in the game but at this point we're just going full selfish mode and only doing things that benefits us. I dont feel like helping people with difficult content, to be completely ignored when it's over. Not even a 'ty' or 'cya'. And this kinda stuff happens almost every month. Just when we think we found some cool people to play with, they're gone once they get what they're after

To be fair, i had never run Direfrost Keep in a group before i attempted to solo it. It took me quite a while to figure out the mechanics by myself and how to get past the pressure plates. That was on normal.

Then i went in on vet and both the final boss and their apprentice took me a while to figure out as well as they have a pretty strong health siphon attack that is a pushover on normal but can easily heal them back to full health on vet.
This was made even worse because the character i tried this first on vet was my Pet Sorc and apparently they will siphon health from your pets as well which you can't interrupt. Once i realized that i put my pet(s) away to keep the bosses from healing.

Anyways, not knowing the mechanics and struggling does not necessarily mean a player is unskilled. Everyone has to learn the mechanics at some point or another.

I remember joining a crypt of hearts 2 run where the three others were struggling.

Ended up pretty much teaching everyone their roles (no johnny, crystal blast is not a dps skill)

Final boss took a little while since we didn't quite have the dps to break the shield. But beat it in the end.

Spent an hour after that getting people in touch with a crafter for a set of Julianos, along with explaining rotations and what skills to use.

For me it was my favorite mmo experience yet. I am a solo player from the Elder Scrolls world, who is generally too shy to get into chat. I can't solo a vet dungeon yet, so monster helmets are tough to come by. Then one day, some guildies were asking over and over for a 4th person to help with the final boss in Mazzatun. I finally give in and actually try and be social and took the challenge. 3 very nice people waited for me to get onto discord and then explained the whole thing to me. I think I caused 2 wipes by simply not attacking the totem pole thing when I was supposed to. Everyone kept a great attitude and 3rd time was a charm. I walked away with a Mighty Chudan Medium Helmet for my stamblade. It's been absolutely awesome and I'm grateful to have it.

Has been puging Scalecaller Peak plenty of times on normal for the Jorvuld’s Guidance set. Always end up on second last boss. Problem is that group don't understand mechanic and folds. Zaan on the other hand is trivial in normal.

No - I'm always the guy who refuses to give up
heh - I'm the only one

actually, it's a BIT of a lie - *sometimes* I've reached the point where I have to sleep or eat or leave for RL issues, and in those situations I'll actually leave - but for the most part, if I'm in, wiping doesn't particularly bother me, as long as everyone is trying

sometimes, VERY RARELY - there's obviously some jerk that doesn't give a damn at all and is just there to drag 3 other people around in his personal single player experience - but I encounter those types of people once, maybe twice a year

for the most part, if the team is actually trying, we can wipe, 5, 6, 8 times on a boss, and if we seem to be making progress - handling each "stage" of the boss just a little bit better - I'm in for as long as it takes

I *like* getting better - I *enjoy* being defeated, analyzing *why* I was defeated, and trying new tactics to see if I can get past a particular barrier - I like taking a break and talking to the rest of the people in my team, finding out what they have equipped, asking them about which skills they're using

can't count the # of times we've wiped for the 2nd or 3rd time on a boss, I try to get everyone to stop for a moment - ask around about builds they're using, and then someone else in the group will pipe up with "why aren't you using x?" and person 2 will say "x? what's x do?" suddenly, they're learning about some skill they never knew they had, or never tried out because it didn't sound good on paper

It was years before I slotted ring of daggers or whatever the DW skill is called - it sounded utterly *** - I can count on 1 hand the # of times an aoe seemed to be the thing that made the difference between life and death, and the dps value of the attack doesn't really sound high at all - and yet, nearly every pve nb build recommends it

point is, it's not uncommon to find players, ESPECIALLY in pugs, that have no earthly idea the value of a particular skill in their lineup because the basic description of the skill doesn't sound impressive - knowing how to stack skills, debuffs, and synergies in such a way as to maximize the effect of an individually unimpressive skill is not natural or easy for many people

    what was I talking about?...

First time it happened I loaded into vcoa2 (before it was 2, when it was the only vcoa) as a healer. There was one dps and an offline guy. As soon as I got there the dps said "please don't leave. Please"

He had been stuck on the fire maw for hours, and had gone through a bunch of party members who gave up and left. I pulled in some guldies and got him the clear. We taught him the mechanics and gave play style and build tips. He was so excited and grateful. He's still on my friends list, and I get notifications of his scores in vet trials most weekends, so he around and doing just fine :)

I've helped bail out a few people and groups since, but none so memorable.

A couple of times, went quickly because I know pretty much all trials except for vHoF and vAS. And yeah, people are ungrateful. You come in, dps or heal your ass off so they can complete it, don't get a coffer, don't complain, and yeah, no appreciation. Also, it seems stepping into someone else's group Discord/TS is like walking into a boiling cesspool, like these people can't turn off their bigotry for a few minutes to be respectful to someone who's giving up their own time to help them. So I don't anymore.

Yeah, done this a few times but it depends on the situation (Im a healer).

    - If the old healer got the boot, it usually goes smoothly because the prior healer wasnt doing a darn bit of healing/buffing/utility work. These groups generally dont take the hours youre talking about though, because they'll vote kick the weak link pretty quickly if it becomes apparent.

    - If the old healer LEFT, chances are I will do the same after a few attempts, because the healer realized the group DPS was never going to get it done. These are those "hours and hours" groups, because as you said, the ones hanging around were the ones causing the issues.

I admire your patience, 5h or even 7h in a dungeon... nobody got time for that

i usually hate it getting assinged by the groupfinder to a group at the end of a dungeon, depending on my mood i quit right away or stick with them. If guildies are looking for help i help them, randoms in chat looking for help i ignore - had so many bad experiences with randoms in vet dungeons that i tend to avoid them.

Oh, man, seeing that Portal as soon as I instance into a dungeon from Group Finder, just gives me the sads. First I know I probably will not get all the boss drops from the place, second, if the original group failed, it does not bode well for a replacement to come along.
