What about dismount? The key that mounts me also dismounts me. Also, mounted I can interact with objects and NPC's, these action auto dismount me. Then entering a building or an enclosed area auto-dismounts me.

I hit RightCTRL to crouch.
While doing anything with keayboard arrows my smallest finger always lies on this key so it's an obvious choice

I ride with my back bar selected. “B” on my back bar is Empowered Ward. So I dismount to a shield popping into existence around me.

I use Night's Silence set so I dismount using crouch and go into sneak run.

Just quickly press twice on the R3 (sneak). Works like a charm and you're not attacking randomly or stupidly standing there blocking
