Cutting the Steam Cord? How, tho?

^ I bought the game November 22, 2013 and can't login other than on Steam. I downloaded the Beta and might've messed around in character creation some...my memory is awful, but yeah. So it must be something else.

Maybe the ZOS people could write the Steam people and simply say something like: We have some customers that would like to migrate their accounts from Steam to ZOS. How can we work with you to make this happen?

This would require ZOS spending $$$

If I rebought the game, would all of my characters still "be there"?

Since the characters are associated with the account created with ZOS, yes. However, ESO+ would need to be repurchased through ZOS.

This is false. If you created your ESO account through Steam (instead of linking an existing one), it can only ever be played through Steam. Even if you buy another copy of ESO, you'll have to make a brand new account.

If you linked an existing non-Steam ESO account to your Steam purchase, you can play through the regular PC client as normal using your login credentials. However, ESO accounts linked to Steam are linked permanently.

I am frankly getting tired of these kind of issues. It happens all too often. it's not worth the amount of money I spend on this game.

On my Steam account I can log into EU and create a toon there, but...why? Finnegan Begin Again?

The funny thing is, with my non-Steam account, the logging in is quicker, there's no real waiting on loading screens and the game seems to run faster.

I think Gabe Newell is trolling Bethesda.

I feel like I was tricked into buying ESO from Steam. IIRC, I got an email about a free weekend or something and it must've been because I'd played a little bit of the Beta. Little did I know when I went for the free weekend, I'd be forever locked out from having just a NORMAL ESO account. I really love this game and it's the only one I play on the regular, but now I'm thinking it might be time to move on. *throws all the toys out*

For me, it was the Gold Edition dirty cheap during a Steam sale. Couldn't say no to it. We see how that worked out.

I would start new if I realized this earlier, but the day before yesterday I got the collector DLCs as well as a mounts, some exp scrolls, and other things to help with my switch from console. So, unfortunately I spent way too much money to throw this account away and start over. I am stuck with Steam apparently. But, this will be the last game I ever get through Steam. They have made sure of that.

Oh yes, I got the Gold Edition as well. Looks like they got us. Meanwhile, people with a regular account are merrily playing the game. Good for them, right? I'm at level 17 on a new character and wanted to get to 18 tonight for the storage chest. Alas.

@MadZod - I totally agree and sympathize. I have way too many motifs learned and traits researched to start completely over. My main is almost CP 480. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd never ever ever have the option to dump Steam. I've never used anything like Steam before and didn't know what it was really. I thought it was simply a seller of games, not....whatever it IS. What IS it?

Edit: (Oh, I see now, it's a Game Platform. Like I'm supposed to know that "Game Platform" means my ESO is forever tethered to it. I thought I was just buying ESO!)

I can't stand Steam. I'm sure partly because I don't know it all that well. It just feels so intrusive to me.

When I buy a game, I don't want or need to be logged into Steam.

It seems to just be a launcher that hijacks your game accounts lol. I only have Skyrim on Steam that I bought ages ago and never used Steam again. I should have researched them more, but lesson learned going forward!

Right! It doesn't serve any reasonable purpose that I can tell. Perhaps someone will enlighten me. Until then, all I see is that Steam has made money from me buying ESO through them. I've done my part! Let me go! It's like having a stalker that keeps stalking. No Contact might be the only way out.

Found a post on the steam forums

"If you are having login error! Here is the solution for some of you!
Just go to (YOUR DRIVE):\Steam Library\steamapps\common\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client and then find eso64 and log in through that. I hope this helps you guys! Happy gaming"

This fixed for me, I couldn't log in through steam but I can this way.

It's part of the agreement ZOS made with Valve to get TESO on the Steam platform. They wanted to segregate purchases between regular PC and Steam. It's a common practice between other platforms.

Not having a dig at you, you are just lucky user number 668483 to suggest that fix. It has worked for some, but for most of us, we're SOL.

Class action because you can't login to a game that's free-to-play with probably no guarantees or warranties that you can play it all?

If the experience is universally degraded for Steam users vs. non-Steam users. And if Valve's ***-ups prevent us from playing the game at all and they refuse to allow us to remedy the situation by moving our accounts over to ZOS, then making them suffer financially should be in order. (No one ever gets rich from class action suits; their purpose is to punish a company for its bad behavior by hitting them financially.)
