So the crown crates and mounts will only be available if you level a new character? How are they helpful for leveling?

Well, I can see it. A common question new players ask is "How do I get a mount?" Spend enough time in the starter zones and you'll see that question asked a lot along with the rote answer "Stable in ______ for 10k gold, or crown store, there's no difference between mounts except for appearance." So getting a basic mount as you level isn't a bad idea.

Most of the Crown Crates hold nothing but consumables, which is right in line with most of the rewards, but I suppose this one is a little more along the lines of "If we hook them with Crown Crates in the leveling process, they'll buy more Crown Crates later!"

Its also implicitly a way to get older players to buy more character slots from the crown store so they too can get in on those sweet loots.

Yeah, the crown crate thing got me thinking too... and how the implemented outfits... Friends, this patch just stinks of designing and redesigning features to allow for greater monetization. Can ya'll stop trying to wiggle your fingers into people's purses and instead just make the systems fun and good?

But hey I guess that's late capitalism it's not about selling a quality product and selling it honestly off of it's merits, it's about trying to squeeze as much money out of everything as you can, even if that means purposefully designing your product terribly.

This sounds terribly like dumbing down to me. I hope that isn't the case. It's not like leveling up poses any serious challenges at present. Giving tips on what to do next and where is one thing, giving gold, crafting materials, and consumables every time you level plus other occasional goodies is something else altogether.

I imagine they will be like the level-up notifications Guild Wars 2 has.

Every level you get a pop-up which tells you how much your base stats have increased that level, how many hero points you've gained (like skill and attribute points in ESO) and any skill slots you've unlocked.

Periodically they also give a bit of info on game systems - for example early ones tell you how to use those hero points, what the bank is and how to find it and how to repair your armour and later ones tell you about dungeons and PvP.

Some of them also include level appropriate weapons, armour and upgrade components. They're nice to have while levelling but nothing spectacular - identical to what you get from enemies or as quest rewards (except they're all bound on acquire). For a veteran player there's maybe 4 or 5 things in the whole list worth having and even then it's only if you're levelling a character anyway. I doubt anyone levels a new character specifically to get a few boosters and some crafting materials.

Of course it's possible ZOS will mess it up and include things useful/desirable enough to make it worth repeatedly grinding to 50 to get them...but then people will farm them and ZOS will nerf it to stop them, and the problem will be solved.

It's just a nice little "good job" reward, but keep in mind those (and other collectible-type things) are per account, not per character. The mount included in the Level Up Advisor is just your basic brown horse.

So does this mean only the mount which is a collectable is per account and the rest of these rewards including crown crates are per character???/

EDIT: sorry for the sarcasm but really? lol

and anyways they will be like 10 trash pots every few levels and enough mats to make 4 potions. and maybe 1 crown crate when they hit 50 for 10 more potions lol. so i would hope you're going to be an adult about this a know they need a marketing strategy for new players and that you'e not the center of the universe :P

No, because they didn't put in the requisite time or work for them whereas veteran players have put in the work and time leveling toons, but will not be getting the corresponding rewards.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno

You should consider doing this for CP, if possible. Some people have all character slots full of max level toons which leaves them out of these rewards, they should be included in this as well, no?

That would be a way to salvage it to reward both new and old players for playing the game.

Is there any rewards that are only obtainable in this system?

A housing storage coffer at lvl18, according to the official discussion thread.
    Vanthras79 wrote: »
Gina, will we be able to craft these storage housing furnishings? and how common will they be?

You cannot craft the Housing Storage Furnishings. Storage coffers and chests will be available for purchase from the Mastercraft Mediator (coming with Update 17), the Crown Store, or from Tel Var Merchants. You'll also be able to earn a storage coffer from the Level Up Advisor when you reach level 18, if you have not already purchased it.

So if you don't craft and don't own IC then you have to pay cash for storage...

Or roll a new alt and reach the lofty level of 18?

I can just see a newbie level 18 thinking "Great, storage! But I don't have enough gold for a house (didn't even save 10k for a horse), I'll have to buy a house in the crown store".

Free storage for ESO+ members would be a nice touch though...

Newbie players dont need money for a house. They are given a free apartment as a quest reward if they choose.

Well we didnt put the work in for FREE stuff lol, they took something AWAY from us that they COMPENSATED accordingly, this is a lot different.

EDIT: also if you really wanted the new stuff you could level a alt and earn it in a couple hours anyways. but this argument is like telling them never update the game or add to base game because if my sister gets it i better damn well get it too! they need to continually add reasons for new people to play, as they do events and stuff for recurring players. regardless if you say its the same every year ( i just feel that one coming lol) its not their fault we play a lot, we play because like like the game.

So......when the storage coffer was mentioned, it stated that once you reach level 18, you are rewarded with one, however, those of us who are leveled players will most likely have to pay to get a coffer or chest, or grind for it? Did I misread that?

I think this is a GREAT idea and I have multiple capped toons.

A possible additional character slot is great to remove the only "negative" argument most people would have.

Many players, I believe, are new to the MMO genre and came over due to enjoying other Elder Scroll games. As such they're used to never really being at a disadvantage, sure in Skyrim your toon may be unoptimized, but if you complete all the content (or change difficulty) who cares it doesn't matter!

Now in an MMO setting this is true for solo play, but most problems arise once they want to do dungeons and group content. Here is where many MMO vets and the newer players generate friction because the vets expect everyone to be optimized and know their "role", where the newer players are completely lost because they never had them worry about "taunting" and the like in the single player games (minus in speech craft!).

Many players do take the time to explain this to newer players, and many newer players learn quickly (we all were new to MMOs sometime), but more and more it seems people don't want to take the time to explain or expect others to just know, and right or wrong, this is how a leveling companion or advice can be a GREAT thing so you learn while on your own and can avoid any embarrassments in front of a group setting.

Sure some will blow through them, but for many it may be a HUGE boon and can only help the community overall I feel!

I find it funny how many trolls have popped up to say "levelling rewards will be useless so there is nothing for players with multiple high level characters."

We don't know what the rewards will be beyond a mount, storage and crown crate, all of which sound like nice rewards as you level up your next toon.

More importantly I actually want to experience the levelling help. It will be interesting to see what zos thinks is important information and it would be arrogant to think there is nothing new to learn. I am really happy that they are considering selling a 15th character slot because I want to experience what a new player will experience.

It is mentioned that there will be a housing storage item from the leveling up advisor, as well as a crown crate. These are items that you won't be able to get in game normally unlike the brown horse (unless the storage item is available in master writ store?). Will these be distributed to players?

Also, in the news post, it is mentioned that you will get a mount OR a crown crate. Will this be random?

:D all the pepole complaining about retroactive rewards.. Why do you care? If you're max level or already have a max level, you don't really need the rewards from leveling that are probably useless once you hit max level.

Crown crates that are missed out on kinda sting, but it's not the end of the world. I believe a new player getting some cosmetics from the crates would keep them more inclined to play.

Painfully, predictably true. The stuff a new character will receive might be useful for them. A person who has leveled up 14 characters? Not so much. Merchant fodder or straight up destroy the item when you loot it.

I'm really excited about the possibilities in this new feature. I have a couple of newer people in my guild, one that has no idea about how to play and is really overwhelmed, she's a friends mom and has never played a game like this before. I think that for people like her, this could be really helpful, depending on what sort of things are talked about and what sort of advice is going on. Obviously, I expect for some tweaking to need to happen as time goes on, but it would be really great for people like my friends mama that really need extra help to figure things out.

I have 3 characters under level 50 right now and can still buy slots so I will be able to check out the milestone rewards and such will still get some degree of crates. But I hope that for people with all slots full of maxed out characters that they can still build more characters if they wish without having to delete any that are already completed. I think that one more free slot would be really appreciated and then a couple more you could buy if you want to. That might help the players that are in the 14 maxed out characters club not feel like they are being left out.

I seriously dont understand why people are so angry about it. Calling it 'dumbing down'. It's a necessary change, it's been necessary for friggin' ages. It's almost like people dont know what they're talking about, big shocker.

So for someone I believe is not so happy since you have gotten "screwed" more than once, you seem to take what ever Zenimax gives.

So why are you sticking around when you claim that Zeminax is not making the game for you? Find a game that you will enjoy and be happy.
