I played 5 beta sessions, and though the game was beautiful, and there was so much ES related lore and content, I felt it needed to be polished a bit more. I watched it over the next few months after release to see it evolve and change. I was waiting for console release to see what the changes were going to be. It turned out to then become the game I wanted it to be. Then to find out it was FTP, I went for it because I could simply buy add ons when I felt like it.

Because it was an elder scrolls game.
Because I love the elder scrolls lore, loved the idea of seeing all the familiar places, and those only mentioned in lorebooks, loved the idea of making characters to visit Tamriel once again.

For me, that is the main reason to invest in a game. The background. Since I need a nicely fleshed out background to really get into playing my characters... thus I will always go for games with a background I love, even if some without established lore might have better mechanics. Because fu... uhm... forget the mechanics, I need something to inspire my -Dreams-!

    Looking for Morrowind with friends.

not perfect, but close enough for me to have fun.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

    Never played a MMO
Had a few mates buying it and wanted a game I could get my teeth into, et voila..

Same here, and to add to the above, never really played video games. I bought ESO on a total whim; I was shopping in a store for something else, passed by the games section and the title caught my eye because an acquaintance of mine was a big fan. I got the game thinking that might give us something common to talk about, since I liked them, all the while thinking how exorbitantly pricey games had become, and kinda already regretting it, because me playing a PC video game? Ridiculous. Two years and nine characters later, I'm so thankful I didn't put the game back on its shelf :) I tried playing Skyrim last year, because I wanted to know more about TES universe, but although I found it really beautiful, unfortunately I couldn't get into the gameplay. I imagine it'd be the same if I tried the even older titles, which is a shame because I really like the lore, and playing is so much better for learning it, than reading the wiki

I bought thinking it was good, it wasn't.

To be fair, I proboly came to the game already burned up with other MMOs, I was hoping I would get something equal or better then Skyrim but I found the game in general mediocre, another WoW clone.

Playing now with a more unbiased mind I can see it has a unique flavor to it, still got some ground to cover (2 years hiatus don't help either) and I'm yet to cover major DLCs like Clockwork and Orsirum, if those are good as they seem to be I might finaly settle down for this game.

I for one still worry over it's buisness model, as I`m a purist when it comes to my games, so too I'am with how it should be earning it's income (subscription only) however I'm very well aware this is more then likely a thing of the past so at the very least I hope the community come to realise that although incentivising Lootboxes might seem like a good exchange compared to the other options, the grim possibility we might be being manipulated and even addicted players, is not the best option or our best interest in the long run.

I finished writing my PhD thesis and I was waiting for it to be examined.... with nothing much to do.

I was thinking about playing skyrim for the 6th time but then I learnt that this game was no longer subscription only so I shruged and started playing.

It is my first MMO, all the terrible grind related things I had heard about MMOs are (for the most part) not that big a deal in this game (perhaps it was because it was WoW I had been hearing about). Since I can easily make do with crafted gear or generate in game gold and buy the sets I need.

The 300 ping it terrible though :(.

I was looking for a new mmorpg and I just heard about eso a year before beta and I loved elder scrolls title before. So I got the game and got to play the beta was a blast playing something to fresh.

What really sold me was AvAvA and a huge war on a massive field. I could not wait until I got into pvp spent my 1st year there.

I liked the Elder Scrolls Series. No I wasn’t expecting Skyrim online. I hadn’t played any MMO’s before, the closest I’d come was Destiny, but I knew what MMO’s entailed and I thought playing one under the banner of a gaming series that I really liked would be a good one to start on.

I came for the quest, but I stayed for the co-op. I made a bunch friends, joined some guilds and got into vet dungeons. But I also like having the option to play solo. I still enjoy doing dailies, questing. I tried PVP, nope, can’t get into it, I’m not playing this game to compete with other players, I’m playing it for the co-op.

I’ve done a few trials too, but due to the fact that I’m Australian and a stable connection in trials is a pipe dream for us down under, I haven’t been able to do that many.

I stay out of the crown store but I do have ESO plus, One of my characters is a master crafter so the craft bag is a god send.

This game is nowhere near perfect, but it’s definitely worth sticking with.

I played the game in beta and I really looked forward to the game. Kinda disappointed by no underwater swimming and invisible walls and loading screens between the different zones I really believed this game had a bright future ahead. I mean, what can go wrong with suck a grand IP and a big company behind it.

Don't get me wrong, I still like the game. But the game is not what I expected to be after more then 4 years. I really believed it would have major updates and huge zones on a regular bases. Yes, Morrowind was great, and I bought the CE to show my support. Also the DLC zones are pretty sweet (but small).

It might be me, expecting to much though. I have played many mmo's and maybe I'm just spoiled or mmo-tired.

The main reason I bought this game was because of the AvAvA. It was great at first, but after the first half year to counter cheaters the performance went downwards. It never recuperated at what it once was. Also I really dislike proc-sets (although it got fixed for most part tbh) and animation cancelling (not weaving). To each their own, but I just dislike it. It makes playing the game feel like a chore and you have to do it to get good DPS (to be accepted in a trial) or to play PvP. It just turns me off logging in most of the times and I rather play Warband and hack away with swords and shields.

Still, I login once or twice a week because the game does have a great overall atmosphere. Once my wife has a new computer we will do a lot of content together again. Because that's really great to do.
