I saw the advert on TV and thought it looked and sounded pretty good. Having never played any Elder Scrolls games before (I know I know :| ) but many MMO's over the years I thought I'd give it a go. Bought the special edition one day when skiving from work and happend to see it on sale for the same price as the normal version. :D

because i thought it would be a true MMO not a hybrid hack n slash single player game with multiplayer options. its less theme parky then SWTOR but less group dynamic.

it sounded really interesting and cinematic commercials were badass, so I applied and got into beta. and fell in love with the game. in Beta. there were some things that were changed.. for the worse, IMO (those things have been corrected since) when the game went live. there were some issues for me that i didn't quite discover in my time in beta. but.. at the time I already bought the game, so... there's that?

Started playing during the open beta's. Decided to buy the game because I like elder scrolls games. Certainly regretted my decision by late 2014. Almost walked away from game, due to the mess it was back then.

I was pointedly ignoring the whole game. I saw the occasional pre-release article headline, but really was not interested. I was still plying Skyrim and World of Warcraft was my main MMO. The merger of TES and MMO sounded like a horrible idea.

In the months before launch, my kid was pestering me about the Elder Scrolls Online beta and wanted my advice on the NDA that they had, so I did some research and let him know what the score was. He decided not to participate. I went back to playing my other games, Elder Scrolls Online safely forgotten.

In early 2014, my kid was all excited because the NDA had dropped and they were looking for players to participate in the scale weekends. He had a beta code and was downloading it to his PC. I watched him play the game on a big screen, and we took some turns kicking the tires. After that, I decided I wanted a closer look on my own, so I snagged a beta key and created an account for the next beta weekend.

My initial impressions were not really very good. Quests did not work. I did not like the focus on classes (still don't) and the emphasis on magicka (still don't), but it had the feel of an Elder Scrolls game. In discussions after the beta weekend, we pretty much decided that it was "OK" but nothing really special.

Skyrim combat was pretty dynamic, but there were really only three things that could be done without changing up things. Left hand, right hand, and shout. It made combat feel pretty real, but very limited. World of Warcraft was all about positioning within range and pressing various things in the proper sequence until the monster was dead. It was very flexible, but not very real. ESO was somewhere in the middle, and while that required some getting used to, it was better than both Skyrim and World of Warcraft.

Still... the classes. They were very limited, and the skills that they offered were all based in magic. This was not a good thing. It immediately crossed off half of the character possibilities coming from Skyrim, including all of the ones that I typically played.

Then something remarkable happened. My character hit level 10 and I went into Cyrodiil. I ran around in there and was over by Chalman, not too far from Bleakers, on an EP character watching streams of DC running towards Chalman. It wasn't a zerg, this was before they were invented, so it was just a hundred or so DC just running down the road. That was when I decided to pre-order the game. I am still using that account I created for the beta weekend.

I ended my years long relationship with World of Warcraft in 2014.

I guess I will stop there.

It was a gift I received almost a year ago (In the mid of Decemeber, it's going to be a full year). I knew little about ESO or ES in general back. So, no, I wasn't an ES fan.

I guess, I was (probably still am in a way) a complete "outlander" when it comes to the universe.. and as it could have been expected I did not know what I was doing...just went with the flow,so to speak, and mostly learnt things via trial and error.
Of course, I am one of those people who has a distinct problem asking for help and believes she can do everything on her own...so mostly I've been playing solo. I still like it: I do what I want when I want and how I want. When I go delving or exploring or farming I take my time..
but there comes this time when you hit the wall and you can''t do much anymore unless you assemble a group ...

This and ...only recently I've become more serious about becoming a "decent" eso-er when it comes to combat...plus, even though I mostly do solo, I actually enjoyed pvp or dungeoning.

I think this game is fun. Everyone can find something to enjoy about it.. even if, due to some technical bugs, it may cause frustration: pvp, pve, homestead...and more..

Preordered the game during early beta and never regreted it.

As for bugs, only had a couple that prevented a misc quest from progressing and those were fixed in a couple of days.

I was in the beta but didn't actually buy it till console release, when I found a copy for $10. I got it because it was cheap and an mmo I could play while laying on the couch. I still didn't play it much till recently. But I always said, even during the beta, if they ever added Vvardenfell, and I could just live there, I'd drop my decade old, extremely expensive WoW account to go live in Morrowind. And I did.

Came with a bunch of friends who have been playing MMOs together since Dark Age of Camelot. We were looking forward to a large scale RvR (realm vs realm) MMO. In the end this game did not quite get there and only 3 of us remain while we wait for Camelot unchained to release

I got into it because I love the ES universe. I heard about it back in Beta so I signed up for that. Was hooked right away, despite any bugs or issues the game had. Had my share of falling through the world. One time I got stuck inside some steps, like the top of my characters head was over the steps and I could see outside, but I could not get out. That was fun. All these people running around taking double takes (I was also not the only one stuck inside the steps). ESO was my first mmo and I really had no idea what to expect. I'm not much of a follower of reviews myself, if some game or movie looks interesting to me, it really doesn't matter what someone else thinks of it. That isn't going to make or break whether or not I check it out.

Got interested back in Beta, because Elder Scrolls in the title - then my friend invited me into Beta and I truly liked it, altho it wasn't similar to other TES titles. (I had never before played a MMO)

When I got enough money and when they announced that ESO is going to drop the subscription, I decided to buy it. I bought it exactly 1 month before sub dropped and I have played it on and off for so long.

So, I got ESO because it had TES in the title and because I liked it when playing beta.

The prospect of getting to explore parts of Tamriel in an mmo that I'd never been too, and knowing that more of it will continue to be released, was too good to pass up. I wasn't disappointed. The storyline and lore were definitely worth the investment, and it turned out that I liked the mechanics and combat gameplay too back at release. :)

By the time I was introduced to Morrowind (the original TES game) the graphics were quite dated - in comparison to other games I was playing - so I never really got into it. It was Oblivion that got me hooked on TES games initially and Skyrim became my all time favourite.

The trailers for ESO looked amazing but the emphasis appeared to be on PvP, with very little information given on the questing side of the game. I am a PvE player so I was was reluctant to take out a sub for something which I thought I would probably not like.

As soon as ESO became FTP (on PC) I took advantage of the special offers around and played for one month. I was smitten and have never looked back. At the beginning of March 2018 I will commence on my 7th, 180 day membership.

I love this game and I have never become bored or 'burnt out' playing it. Yes, there are a lot of things that could be better but with varied interests and imagination one can find plenty of new things to do and try out.

    1. Open world PvP
    2. Nice, non-cartoony graphics
    3. Elder Scrolls

Once I started playing, I added non-restrictive classes and a dynamic combat system based more on resource management than cooldowns to that list.

Edit: Oh yeah, and I don't give a crap about reviews.

I bought this game because I wanted to try an MMORPG (I've never played an MMO before).
I remember the reviews sucked for this game when it came out, so i'd never really gave it any attention before. However since it's been brought up again, I gave the game a look and it seems like the reviews made a complete turn around. So I bought the game.

Also i've always loved Elder Scrolls games. I remember playing Morrowind as a kid. Oblivion, Skyrim etc. They're all great games. Most games in my steam library have Elder Scrolls mods on them.
So I guess it was natural to gravitate towards this game at some point anyway.

Tried this game in beta (because I loved Morrowind and Oblivion, and thus the lore), but I thought it was boring, old-fashioned and uninspiring. Didn't play nor think about this game again for two years.

Came back two months ago after I saw a Youtube video saying the game had improved a lot. No one said that the events were rubbish though, especially compared to other MMO's out there. ZoS needs to learn from games such as GW2 on events, because the events in ESO are lacking in more ways than one.

Honestly, please up your game ZoS, because not everyone will stick around with Junk-Loot events.
