I love ESO but it makes me sad to think about what this game could have been

It all depends on what you want in a game, and how you play it. I don't doubt that competitive PvEers as well as PvPers have some issues with the game, and perhaps console players more than PC players. However, as a non-competitive PvEer I loved the game when it launched on PC and knew immediately it would be my main MMO home for years to come. Several years on and that's still the case, the game continues to improve from what for me was a solid start, and I continue to enjoy the game immensely with no performance or balancing issues, and only a couple of significant bugs encountered since launch - both resolved. I could do without the crates, although they don't bother me as I don't buy them, and I could certainly do with a decent trading system so the game isn't perfect, but it's still exceptionally good for my playstyle. I do play several other MMOs but none compares to this one.

Still love the game for sure. My post can be better summarized to me feeling like they make wayyyy too much money to still have things like group finder be broken. When I know they make a ton off crates and what not and to see things still broken just makes me feel like it's a cash grab. When the game was newer I didn't have these thoughts because they weren't making anywhere near what they are now I felt. It felt like ok they're doing what they can with what they have. Now it feels like they're doing the bare minimum to keep profits up. Which is fair, I know it's a business but if they made some upgrades and more hires I think they would end up profiting even more by people coming back or staying longer. They definitely know this so then I ask why don't they do that then? Not a fan of the answers that I can think of at least.

Xbox NA btw and none of this was inspired by reading forums, just me coming back to the game to find everyone I used to play with quit (for now at least) and for understandable reasons.

Looking at their direction and trying to understand their motives. I think they know that their best chance of surviving the next three years, through multiple anticipated MMO releases, is to develop ESO so much that other games can't possibly reach the scope of Tamriel. That is where their edge will be, in the headstart they got to develop for years during an MMO lull, and with a big budget backing it... Compared to most of what is coming.
That said, if zos doesn't fix the multiple problems... People will leave out of frustration.
