Yea, that's because the visual bug isn't tied to the trait, but rather to the item's ID. Since trait change works like a "costume" of sorts that overrides the innate trait, it means that retraiting does not change the item's ID (and you can examine a retraited item's ID to know what the original trait was).
That having been said, since HotR, MD's glow is visible only by you. Your allies will not see that glow--probably suppressed by the allied visual effect suppression.

This change to IA staff (visuals, sound effects) - it's on the PTS, right? And which traits does it affect? All of them or - similar to Moondancer - only some of them, like sharpened?
