Cash for Gold.

I am willing to bet this is happening anyway so why not make it officially done via either the Crown Store or PlayStation Store. For example 760,000 Gold for $39.99 or 5,500 Crowns. Or make it 1,000,000 Gold or more if it will help end the Cash for Gold trade taking place elsewhere. I don't know for sure this is actually happening, just a hunch. Let the Discussion begin.

There is a pretty clear line with what ZoS will actually put in the crown store. Cash for gold goes far beyond that.

    It ain't happening.

Gold is very easy to make in game anyway and as a result there's already moderate inflation because there are few gold sinks. Allowing people to buy gold for crowns would simply wreck the economy for good. Gold for crowns would just be P2W light since some good sets can be bought for gold in game from other players or some vendors, especially PvP gear that's BoE.

You can already convert crowns to gold by crafting grim harlequin or stalhrim frostcaster stuff with mimic stones, deconning the item and selling the style material for gold. It's probably a really really really crappy conversion rate but it's there lol.

Will not happen while ESO is still making a reasonable sum. Might happen if ZOS off sell to a palliative MMO manager when ESO nears the end.

Yes there is already players buying gold with real cash and this is an issue. It's going on from player to player and website to player.

The issue with ZoS selling gold in the crown store is even more people would do it a lot more. This would cause the game to become pay to win. It would also make prices of in game items go even higher making it very hard for people not buying gold to get the items they want.

Crown store should stay to fluff items and players buying gold should be permanent banned from the game. Why should they? Bc supporting gold sites promotes the business even more to keep doing wat they are doing and destroying the economy for everyone else. So a few bad apples being lazy and selfish ruin it for all the fair playing players.

Just use the "PLEX system" players with excessive income can buy gold, players with excessive gold can buy game time.

Prices of RMT gold have competition as well.

It works in Eve because of the real time investment required for progression, in ESO it could result in relatively instant progression.

ESO Basically has instant progression any way with the exception of the CP grind. The only progression left is grinding CP and BoP gear. Gold is mostly just used on cosmetics for houses or tempers at this point.

That's why you do a system where the cash is still made by the players and traded legally between players for cash. Like the PLEX system.

To inject raw gold for cash would be a disaster that most major MMO companies could see as a bad idea. The other option is to make Crown Store items able to be traded and all come in rune boxes.

Players can spend real money to buy items and sell them for gold to players, everyone wins.

Okay, ignoring the very relevant argument that this would crash the economy in about six seconds flat (which it would); how could they possibly offer a worthwhile exchange of cash for gold?

Okay, let's look at Daggerfall Overlook. The property costs 3.8 million gold, or 11k crowns. This puts the gold value per crown at around 343.6 gold per crown.

Okay, let's round that to 350, just for convenience. Or 35k gold per dollar.

Wait. Seriously? Only 35k per dollar? That won't even buy you a single page of most of the in demand motifs. So, if you wanted 1m gold, you'd be shelling out, somewhere around thirty bucks?

They can't go above that, or they'd undercut their own store items. They go below it, and it'd be an even worse deal.

Now, I do get the appeal. You see someone offering a sharpened necrosplat inferno staff for 120k, and that's only four bucks, you can pay that, right?

Good. So can most people. Thing is... I know you can pay that. I know someone can magic up the gold for a couple bucks, so suddenly that item that was selling for about 120k, is now 700k, because I think, "yeah, I got lucky, this is worth about 20 bucks." And, it's a safe sale, because somewhere, there's a kid, with an unlimited supply of cash, on their parents credit card. Maybe it's legit, and everything's above board. Maybe they don't know the little snot still has their card details squirreled away from when they got a six month ESO+ subscription. Either way, I'm getting my 700k, you're left wondering, "wait, 20 bucks for one item!?" and someone, who's pulling down six figures is going, "yeah, that's reasonable to bypass grinding for six months."

Players can spend real money to buy items and sell them for gold to players, everyone wins.

The insidious thing with systems like that is, they then justify pay to win mechanics leaking in. I've seen it enough times to know.

If you can resell stuff in the store, that means you can resell the stuff with actual utility as well.

You still have the problem of rampant inflation. It's somewhat moderated, but it will still occur.

For example, I took a weekend with BDO earlier in the month. Six bucks on Steam, I've seen people raving about how well its economy works. I can take a minute. While I'm doing this, I'm looking at tutorials on how to produce stuff. Now, the game has a moderated auction house, meaning you can't overcharge, or dramatically undercut prices in one go. It can change over time, but your prices are heavily restricted. I'm also looking at these tutorials and seeing them talk about how much money the items they're describing sell for.

Thing is, these tutorials were written in February. The prices I'm seeing to day are roughly twice those. So over eight months, in a game with no direct player to player trading, except via the AH, and strict price controls on it... they've still experienced 100% inflation in that time.

Second thing, and this is older, I'm not naming one game, I've seen it in a bunch of MMOs. Every game I've seen that let you move cash store items to other players lead to a situation where you were seeing items in the cash shops (or their lucky bags) with direct gameplay effects. (This includes BDO, by the way.) The rational is fairly straightforward and wonderfully insidious: "It's not pay to win if you can (theoretically) obtain it without spending money." So long as someone pays them, the developers don't care, and can still say it's open to everyone.

In fact, I've had people argue with me on these boards, without a hint of irony, that "Neverwinter is not pay to win." Because everything you pull out of the gamble boxes can be listed up on the AH, and because you can grind for Zen (the real money currency), and then buy it from other players using a time gated currency (called Astral Diamonds).

Cryptic games are hilariously pay to win. There are often entire tiers of gear that are cash only. In the case of Star Trek Online, all of the endgame ships require you to either grind for a month during an event (for specific promo-only ships), or require you to cough up some cash. (Or, buy them from other players who coughed up cash.) This isn't something like the Apex mounts, by the way. In STO, your ships are, effectively, a class, and those tier 6 ships have more stats, access to unique abilities that nothing else in the game can obtain, and have more equipment slots. To say nothing of simply higher stats, which they also have.

But, because you can, theoretically obtain everything through grinding, you'll see people arguing, "no, really, it's not P2W."

Selling stuff, player to player, from the crown shop is a terrible idea, full stop.

    760,000 Gold for $39.99 or 5,500 Crowns.
This already exists in Guild Wars 2 and a bunch of other mmos. Yet it doesn't seem to really effect the playerbase, infact it seems to entice more players to play it for some reason. But still, something like this would just be catering towards those who just want to spend thousands of dollars just to get everything they want in the game, hence making the game p2w.

For example: In guild wars 2 you pretty much have to spend money in the cash shop to keep up with the other players and if you don't, you're going to be missing out on alot of stuff and you'll be quite restricted when you compare yourself to a cash shop user. Sure, you can buy gems for gold but that doesn't make a difference when you have to spend alot of gold to get gems meanwhile you only need to spend a small amount of gems to get alot of gold. I still play the game though but even then, I know this is a terrible pay to win mechanic.

Probably relevant to remember that EVE is a fully PvP enabled game. If you encounter goldsellers in that game, you can hunt them down and kill them. ESO... not so much. It also doesn't share that prey on the weak mentality which drives EVE's high level play.

Even in PvP, ESO is a primarily cooperative game, EVE is a primarily competitive one.
