It doesn't have to be strictly physical features. Perhaps your character give off similar vibe (i.e. heroic, nefarious, wanton, intelligent, etc) as you. Perhaps it's the fashion sense. Perhaps it's that random cannibalistic hunger or tendency to draw blood from people's neck.

Not exactly me: Tryxus is based on both my grandfathers in terms of looks and personality. So there might be a resemblance to me as well

I make no attempt to have any of my characters like me.

They are not me. They are them and I will try to give them their own back story and such. The one I am playing the most right now is Tornaad. He ran away from home after an oppressive father tried to stop him from casting magic, and then when he tried to go back home he found himself on a completely strange world full of some people who look similar to him and others who he has never seen or heard of and now he is exploring this new world in hopes of trying to find a way home (which he never will). Deep down he already knows that, he is just not ready to accept it.

I've tried making a character that looks like me, but that means either creating a breton or an imperial, neither of which suit my playstyle. In fact my warden was a breton that vaguely resembled me, but then I changed him into a female dunmer so....

Their is no groin adjustment in the char creation module so, in compare all of my toons are far more deficient then I.

I've got a few short characters, so that fits. I have a couple with reddish purple hair, so that fits. I put most of my characters in dark colors, so that fits. Otherwise, not so much. Perhaps in an inner child sort of way, or with traits that I wish I had, like being more brave etc. But mostly, I'm not trying to be "me" in any character. I don't generally make it a habit to take out my enemies with weapons irl lol. But in game, that is the best fun lol.
