Purple-Grey is not what I think of when I read' ebony'.

I came into this thread thinking there was a way to get every race to have the skin tone of my avatar there, and of my redguard... thinking... oooo /win.

But instead of Stevie Wonder Ebony B) , I got Purple Rain and Prince. >:)

What about people who bought the mind shriven skin with the preview showing it mixed together really well with vampire only for them to change it later with no reasoning.

Is there a hat that looks like a large horn on your head? I have a vampire character idea that would go well with this skin if there is a hat like that.

@ZOS_MattL, this is a general bug with crown previews in general. The preview system supports stacking, in ways that's not possible for a player to actually replicate. For example: The Draugr polymorph (before it was removed) would display worn tattoos on its arms and face. Now, the actual polymorph doesn't, somewhat obviously.

Thing is, skins used to work this way back before the Dark Brotherhood release. There was a distinct visual appearance to the MIndshriven skin if you wore it on a vampire. (The skin would go shriven, but the eyes would become bright red.) It was actually quite striking, and kinda sad that it's no longer in the game.

At the risk of stating the obvious... The skin is from a quest on Vvardenfell.
An alchemist developed a concoction to convert flesh to ebony. (As in the volcanic glass used as a weapon and armor material on Tamriel.) The goal was to turn rock into Ebony, so that it could be sold, but mining the miners seemed a profitable enough alternative.

On the topic of the above quote, it is only a bug with the preview of a skin. No need to go on a rant.

I'd rather not give my opinion about a topic you knew was extremely controversial right now and bound to derail OP's unrelated topic. The fact that you're trying to continue this derailment, leads me to believe your goal is derailment. This voids any and all fake aprehension you displayed when originally bringing it up, showing your disingenuousness.

You know what would stop the complaining? If ZOS gave them some aesthetic options.

As a skill line it's become nearly-mandatory for some specs. They're not in it for the RP, and they have a valid point about how ridiculous vampirism looks. They'll stop bringing it up when they have better options.

And I'll be glad too. I don't have any vamp characters, but there are so many dropped-in-flour ill-looking people everywhere now. Too much sameness.

Yeah the fact that every other person is a vampire these days is pretty ridiculous. It ruins a lot of the diversity you would otherwise see between people's characters.

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom As I posted in the thread in Bug Reports, this is entirely a bug with the Preview function.

Any skin that you equip in-game disables the vampirism effects before applying the skin effect.

The preview function does not disable the vampirism effect before applying the skin effect.

So that results in the discrepancy between the preview and what people get in-game if someone is a vampire.

If someone is not a vampire, there is no discrepancy.

Furthermore, if someone is a vampire and already has an in-game skin applied, there is no discrepancy because the existing skin has disabled the vampirism effect, so the preview works as intended.

TL;DR: This is a bug in the Preview function that is triggered when a vampire (of any stage) who is not currently wearing another skin in-game previews a skin from the store.

Most people don't choose to be a vampire just for the sake of being a vampire. We do it for the passives. With recovery being as it is now it's basically necessary for a lot of classes. A lot of us spent time making our characters look nice, and also building our characters up to be effective in terms of dps, healing, or tanking. So yes we have to sacrifice our good looks in order to be more effective in our roles, and just curing ourselves isn't an option most of us will use. So yes making vampirism not as hideous would be a nice change.

Yes, I understand, I use vamp on just about every toon I have for the passives...but its still a disease that makes me hideous, I accept this downside, just like I accept the health recovery and fire weakness downsides. If you care about how your toon looks, get cured. Do you want the passives or do you want to be pretty? Make your choice.

Hi Jessica, while you're at it, could you please run a simple idea to address the plethora of issues around vampirism, skin markings and tattoos past your modelling and texture team?

Could they please do an in-house test and change the stacking order of the texture channels to:
    • base skin
    • vampire skin
    • tattoos
    • markings

    Thanks in advance.

Yes please!!! Its so frustrating not being able to see my tattoos

No, no, no, no. Look at those 2 pics. The preview is what we wanted & expected. Fix the skin. Fix the skin. Either that or offer a refund to people who bought expecting it to look like it did in the preview (y'know, cool - as opposed to how it came out).
