Is Warrior-Poet's a good gear set?

Anyone knows if the Warrior-Poet is a good gear set, or not? I think it is designed for tank, but I never saw any tank use it.

My understanding is alot of tanks have been running Plague doctor and Ebon set for the group bonus

You can get the same 5th piece bonus from Warhorn (Alliance War Skilline) and in a good group tanks and healers are using warhorn.

Its pretty good for a health tank. Some people would argue that its not as good as other health sets due to minor fortitude being a generic buff, but imo you're better off having it permanently. It works well with Plague Doctor, and looks infinitely better than any of the alternatives for health builds.

I look at the total bonus to the set. There are 6 on the set. Which for me is the inbetween set, previously you chosed if you want to go more resistance and a proc, or you went health tank, and either boost health or something.

This set lacks a proc, but provides both resistances and 2 max health bonus, but also provides a permanent 10% Health max buff. Which means your other set can go either way.

For me I paired it with Green pact, and get 33k resistance with 50k hp min and 2k health recovery min with food.

    > Though it less effective if your a Warden with a heal passive that provides the same 10% health max buff. Which is part of the common debate about the set.<

    I like it.

It's useful for any class looking to boost their defenses.

Not good at all, plague + ebon give you enough health and also give 1k health to group!

Yes, but neither of those sets give you any physical or spell resistance. So they are only useful as health increases.

I've done the experiments. A large health pool isn't all that useful at keeping you alive if you do not have the mitigation to go along with it. So while I do not doubt you that players who already have sufficient mitigation from other sources would benefit more from those two sets you name - those who don't likely wouldn't.

    It's a great set.

Just because there's something else in the game that gives you a similar buff doesn't make the set any less great.

Warhorn does not give the Major Toughness buff which is what Warror-Poet gives at 5 PC which means the two would stack. Now, the Warden can provide the Major Toughness buff to the group (and to themselves) which would not stack with Warrior-Poet.

    Just FYI @Qbiken

It's not a good or bad set... it's a situational set.

If your group has good War Horn uptime, this set is junk.

If your group has a Warden healer, this set is junk.

In all other tanking situations, this set is fine.

Tanks have been getting enough mitigation with Ebon and Plague. vHoF, which probably dishes out the most damage of any of the trials, has been cleared by tanks wearing that combination. Most, if not all, of the tanks who have cleared it have worn gear that does not have set bonus that increases resistance.

The added resistance decreases damage by a percentage. vHoF has pretty high damage that can hit the tank and at a point stacking more health is beneficial.

This link has some information about damage mitigation that may be helpful.

I think Plague, Ebon and Green Pact have been the rage recently depending on the situation. Plague and Green Pact are great sets because you can buy the missing piece and don't have to endlessly grind. It seems like Warrior-Poet would be a good set for pugging dungeons but probably not needed for well organised trial groups.

Since you only need high HP for HOF, it doesn't really matter if you wear poet, green pact or ebon among Plague.
In general you gimp your self as a tank when running around with 50-60k+ , it's overkill for current content.

I would recommend you focus on blocking, HoTs and HP reg and sustain in general it's much more helpful solo and group.

In 4 man content or solo Warrior Poet can be good but in Trials its trash.

No. It is more like saying why reinvent the wheel over and over again. The OP of that thread put a lot of work into it. Why does everyone need to do the same work for something so basic.

As the creator of that damage mitigation thread I will say this, resistance is the most overrated stat for a tank to have, the amount of resistance a tank gets by simply just wearing heavy armor, shield and using Major Ward and Resolve is more than enough and other sources of mitigation will give more than trying to buff your resistance.

It used to be a generic 10%. It was changed to Minor Toughness recently in the Morrowind Update (and wasn't called out in the patch notes).

I like using it as a startup gear for a tank. However, once I've been able to grind out Green Pact or Ebon instead, I use that and move warrior-poet down to a new character.
