The achievements are largely doable if you sit in the back of a zerg and spam your class execute, such as Jesus Beam or Mage's Fury. Executes proc at low health and burst quickly enough to land you the final blow. If you don't have a class execute, then you'll struggle because everyone else will get the killing blow 99% of the time.

Also equip Soul Assault and stack Max Magicka, crit chance, crit damage, and spell damage. For sustain, use a Lightning Staff HA with an Oblivion Damage Enchantment equipped. For extra burst, you can use Valkyn Skoria, as it will proc off of Jesus Beam (if Temp), Soul Assault, and your HA channeled ticks- all of which are DoTs.

If you can't find a zerg, make a zerg. If a zerg cannot be made, join a guild and host a guild event where 20+ of you go into IC all on your Wardens and trample every Procblade in an unholy stampede of Birds, Bees, and Bears!

I intend to give it a go from tomorrow and just realised... no PvP gear at all

so given I'm totally strapped for cp 160 mats, would some sort of impen cp140 blue set be good enough at least at first anyway?

Yes absolutely, you might wanna make the big bits purple and if you really want to kill, your weapons should be gold. You probably have gold stuff if you do a lot of PvE.

AD and EP best got whoopin from DC.

They aint interested in going back to AD or EP in order to try and to even the playin field.

I guess this thread has already taught you one thing about PVP..: The PVP community aren't the demons and trolls that they seem to get painted as

A lot of good advice here so far - here's a but more...

    AP/Siege
Buy siege and wood/stone repair kits as soon as you can. There is a starter quest in PVP which teaches you how to use siege and rewards a bit of AP - so worth doing that first.
Since you're new to it and so probably going to be worse at combat than most, I'd suggest trying the no-cp campaign and using a lot of siege (its more effective against players there).
There are siege merchants in your starting keeps (where it ports you when you join cyrodil) - and some repeatable quests that grant AP too (kill x nightblades etc..). These are worth getting. There is also a siege merchant inside the keep of every castle and at every resource node. So stock up quick when you start to earn.

    On Grouping..
Ask for a group - as a new PVPer you WILL be more successful in a group and you will benefit from the AP that the group as a whole earns. You also will be using the leaders experience to give guidence, decide where to go etc. You generally get three types of groups in cyro..
    1. The guild-only group. You will not get invited to these. They vary in skill/ability etc. The best will be seen moving in a tight ball, have builds which compliment the group rather than the individual, are using voice comms and are very well-practiced at moving together, co-ordinating ultimites/keeping each other alive etc.. The more casual will still probably be using voice comms but won't be as practiced and won't have group-focussed builds.
    2. The small-man. Usually 2-4 friends who have played a lot together, have complimentary builds, TS, often found in resource nodes running In circles around objects.
    3. The pick-up group. This is the group who will invite anyone who's looking at the time. This is the group you will get into. The pug will get defeated by the guild groups in most engagements, and will also struggle to defeat the small groups too (even if outnumbering them 3 to 1) But its usually part of the zerg and is capable of starting a siege.

Now if you do spam LFG in /zone, you will either get snapped up or not. Its simple. In PVP pugs, nobody cares which build you run, what your CP is, how many kills you get, how effective you are, etc. Its just about numbers. The leaders are generally trying to get a full group of 24. SO if you don't find a group - it will not be a reflection on your ability/experience.
When in a group, all you need to do is watch chat, take directions and follow the leader(crown). The only reason you're really gonna get kicked from a pug is for being offline or constantly being in a totally different place to the rest of the group(leader).
Also stealth when the leader stealth's (usually on approaching an enemy keep)

If you don't get a group - don't worry, its just because there isn't one running with spaces at that time (or the leader was too busy to notice your LFG in chat at that time - which is why asking every few minutes is useful)

In the meantime, if you don't get a group - you can still play. Learn to understand the map - see where the conflicts are (crossed swords) or keeps are under attack (have a yellow glow behind them) - and go there. You will generally see plenty of other people going there too. When you get there, there will often be a large amount of friendlies in combat - stick with them. You don't have to be in a group to play alongside others. You benefit from each others heals/buffs etc. grouped or not. You can help kill the same targets grouped or not. You can join in with a pre-existing siege etc.
This is called zerg-surfing. There are probably more people doing just this than there are in groups at any one time in cyro.

    On Dying
Rule number 1. Don't get salty. You will die - a lot. Its what PVP is. I've seen some PVEers get really upset when someone kills them in Cyro or IC.. and take it as some kind of trolling/hatred directed against them etc.. It isn't, its just PVPers Pvping in a PVP zone.. I honestly think this is one of the main reasons people think PVPers are toxic etc.... I suspect if you do see this kind of rage in chat - its probably PVE-ers who are only there for the event and havn't learned this yet.

So dying.. When you dye, people will generally resurrect you if its safe for them to do so (even if not grouped with them) - so don't release straight away - wait a bit and watch the flow of the combat to see if it will likely be safe for them soon or not.
If you rush into the middle of a ton of enemies/siege, die, get resurrected, and then just do the same thing again, people will notice and will stop risking themselves/wasting their stones on rezzng you. So back off behind friendlies after a rezz, and be a bit more careful.
If you don't get a rezz, there may be a camp nearby. you can rezz there - but they are only temporary, and you can only use them once every 2 minutes? so its better to get a player rezz if possible.
Failing that, you can ressurect at any keep (or village) your faction owns - usually the closest keep and then a run back to the action on your trusty mount. Speaking of which, Cyro is big. Build up your mount speed as much as possible.
Use your dead time usefully, stock up on more siege/repair kits, turn in quests etc, before porting back. Learn how to get around.

    Getting around Cyro
There is a 'transitus system' which is quite simple. The map shows lines between keeps you own, which are not under attack and control at least one resource. You can use this to instantly teleport from one keep to another. Each keep has a kind of glowing pedestal surrounded by npc casters which you can use to port.
If a keep in the network goes under siege, and its walls drop to below 50%, it will be 'on fire' (ie it has a firey icon behind it on the map) You will not longer be able to port to (or from) it. Also it may cut off other keeps that it links, removing the ability to port to them. You will also not be able to resurrect there either. But these 'flaming' keeps are the ones that need defending. Most people, when this happens, port to the nearest safe keep, then ride there.
Each keep has 3 resource nodes (farm/mine/lumber) If all 3 for a keep are capture, you cannot port. (but can still rezz)
Horseback - when travelling, there is a skill in the assault line usually called 'rapids' - it gives a 30% speed buff to you which also works while mounted. It is also one of the few skills that affects your nearby group members (where most skills affect anyone nearby, grouped or not). IF in a group, you will probably benefit from this.
Galloping makes it even quicker. your horse will run out of stam quick, but as long as you keep galloping, it won't stop (if you do stop, you need to recover some of that horsey stam before you can gallop again. Now this is important, Horse stamina is a measure of how much damage you can take before getting knocked off you horse.. This means that if somebody light-attacks you while you are sprinting with no horse-stam, you will be knocked off. Getting knocked off stuns you for a good few seconds - and gives no CC immunity - allowing you to be stunned again straight after.
Basically, getting attacked while on horseback is usually a death sentence - so dismount BEFORE you get to the fight.

Most importantly - Don't get annoyed, Persevere and Have Fun

    ^ This.

The PvP community IS NOT the way these forums make it out to be. Keep an open mind, learn the ropes and conventions, and don't sweat dying. You'll have a blast.
