I haven't seen confirmation of transmog for dropped sets--do we actually know that this will work any different than the existing conversions (i.e. morag tong, imperial)?

I would hope that they plan on implementing it for all gear both dropped and monster sets. Because costumes already cover all of it.

They will receive a tidal wave of criticism (both from this game's players and the MMO community in general) if they paywall this. I really doubt Zenimax is stupid enough to make that blunder. Although you never know.

I already cancelled my ESO+ due to Morrowind, but if they put transmogrification behind any paywall, that'll be the final nail in the coffin for me.

i pay for my motif since the Beta , i'm a master crafter ( still missing some part of the news motif ) , Make my work useful ! all these motif are currently useless ... And eso+ should not be alone to have a utility to these motif .

Anyway if it's eso+ or crown store exclusive, i will leave of this game ( no you won't be able to get my stuff , i will give this to my guildmate)

Knowing how Zos have done things in the past I bet that it will either be store only (consumable 1 time items that requires you to buy 1 for each piece you want to xmog) or ESO+ only (and then have it work like costume dyes).



I hope I am wrong and the way they plan on making money of it is by limiting what styles you can use for transmoging to the styles you know for crafting (this is what I'd do if I was in charge). Doing that would make just about everyone happy.

Forcing everyone to burn tempers and upgrade to gold in order to Transmog! Devious! I like it. Even better if that isn't a requirement for Crown Store Transmogs!

I know everything is paywalled in this game, but transmog is something literally every MMO on the market launches with. Paywalling such a basic feature would be PR suicide.

Let me ask you a question. Does a Skooma Dealer fear PR suicide, when he increases the cost of his addictive product or cuts it with guar dung? Why doesn't this affect his business as much as you might think?

a really tedious effort with crafting writs, probably need some sort of stone, will need at least 10 things of something to turn into something then apply it that thing to a style trait and will need like 200k to change 1 piece of clothing.

I don't know but after the disappointment that was housing, battlegrounds and many other things I have learned to expect that transmog will not be what I expect or want and will have excessive limitations that will be a grindfest of some sort. As a result I predict that ill end up continuing to use costumes.

Thanks for making the best out of my open ended question. That's pretty much exactly what I was going to add to that poll option.

Easy to get in crown store, but endless flyspeck grind in game.

Three ways they probably do it, one is crown store stone only, other is eso+ get it free, last is like the experience bonuses, you can get it say writ vouchers or rare drops of stones.

Now the promised flexibility, (if i read that right you can use an level one item or you can use the broom as an two hand weapon.) point towards an template system, you stuff the target item in one box, you put the template item in another and the target looks like the template. Template is destroyed, this keep you from copying ebon and rare styles.
You can craft, buy or loot template.

The other simpler way works more like crafting you will need to know the style probably use an style stone to specify style and press convert.
Downside is you can only convert into crafted styles of the level of target so no low level items and you can not change armor weight, you can not even change between robe and jerkin.

I've worked on mmo games before and below is how I would do it

First you need to create a transmogrification stone.

You need to obtain a style materiel and a temper, the temper must be the same quality as the item in the same way as tempers are used in housing, this is a cosmetic thing after all

So for example, to turn a green quality red mountain chest into the akaviri style you would need the gold scale style materiel and a green temper, or to turn a gold julianos staff from nord to stalrim you would need a gold temper and the stalrim itself, perhaps master crafters could make more than one using the same mats.

The crown store could then get its cut by offering a universal transmogrification stone which would only require a style materiel, so you can get it in the store or in game. Implementation would be a matter of how to tell the game to draw from a diffrent file and use that to replace the one the item comes with.

I hope they do something as I like many people are fussy about how the charecter looks, I don't grind dungeons as I just don't like how the dropped sets look and I'm not a fan of the current range of costumes, if I could alter the look I would be a lot more likely to go hunting for these items

I can think of two well known mmos that have this featured behind a paywall. Might not make people's happy but it is what it is.

It would be really dumb for them to try to sell this feature as crafting right now is mostly a big waste of time and this is about the only thing that could possibly make it slightly more useful than the steaming pile that it has become. The only truly worthwhile crafts in the game are Alchemy and Provisioning, the armor/weapon crafts are minor crutches for new players and to be fair they don't really need it either because the newbie side of the game is so easy now.

I'd like to point out I'm not being generally negative but that's just how I view this particular element of the game. Gear crafting like most MMO's has become more and more useless. There really are only a few decent choices and usually they are only useful in a partial way. I'm philosophically preferential to the SWG method but I think most modern MMO-goers are scared of that system.
