It depends on the situation. Usually I don't really mind some other player joining the fight against a delve boss or some random mobs. I don't need the help but hey, they get xp, I get xp, everything's fine. I join the fight of others too, but only if their health gets really low and it looks like they are about to die.
Only when I fight a quest boss and some max level moron steps in and kills them in two hits, completely ruining the quest and my mood, then I am extremely anoyed.
Generally people who see delve / quest bosses as an dps test if its other players in area.
On the other hand don't expect other to wait 7 minutes so you can solo an delve boss.

Only time it bothers me is when they get the enemy's attention then proceed to kite it about.
No one needs to kite, ever, on overland content: I really wish said players would learn the mechanics of the game. Because anyone that kites clearly does not know them.
Being slightly evil about it; it would be nice if the developers put in a one-shot mechanic on these enemies when they're being kited about. Players; stand still.
But that's a little off topic.

Excluding the above scenario, I don't have a problem with it at all.

I once saw a highlevel cp char fighting..... he had really high health but seemed to be battling very slowly, so I gave the enemy a couple of whacks and the guy thanked me.... saying something along the lines of how he was a tank and would take forever to die but equally he would take all day to kill this npc.
If I am on my way through a dungeon purely for the skyshard I don't mind other players jumping in..... but it is good to let everyone get a hit on the boss so they get the achievement too.

I have no problem with people killing what i'm fighting at all, after all it is an MMO, there are other people, we will get in each others way, and we will help each other out many times eventually, that's how it works.

The only time i think slightly differently is for a fraction of a second after someone jumps in and helps me on something that i'm "testing" myself on, something i want to see if i can kill alone, and i'm so close then they jump in. But that's annoyance is just for a fraction of a second, then i shrug and carry on, or wait for it t re-pop and try again.

Life's way too short to worry about silly little annoyances.

Also, if i'm attacking a delve boss, and i notice others nearby, i intentionally drag the fight out a bit until they get a hit in so they don't have to wait.

I like it. It really speeds a lot of the busywork up. Loot is instanced, and exp doesn't alter unless there's a bunch of people. I've met a few people by following them in delves, or them following me; waiting for each other when one of us are in a menu and powering through as a pair, grouped or not; parting amicably or adding to the friendlist to delve again one day.

Since two people can kill mobs without reducing exp (it doesn't start reduction until 3+), if I see a player fighting a one-diamond alone, or struggling with a group, I'll pop some heals and help burst it down. Most of the time I'm just A->B before I forget what I'm wanting to do, so help with stuff on the way (hey, they're in my way, too) and leave grinders alone.

We both get to have the leather scraps and gold, and it doesn't impair exp. It speeds us both up to get more, in fact. I don't understand why anybody would see this as a problem as it has literally no downside?

The only time I ever find strangers 'help' or presence backfiring is in the actual world - when they are super-aggressive and triggering effects such as environmental traps (everything is on fire, thanks), enemy spawns (IT SAYS SNEAK WHY ARE YOU SPRINTING AUGH DWARVEN SPIDERS EVERYWHERE), or sloppy/disregard for stealth (drawing NPCs' attention so they turn to see me as well, doing the stealth PROPERLY).

It only "bothers" me if I'm using a low-level toon and some 500+ CP toon steamrolls through everything (happened in Nchuleftingth the other day to me and my partner). It just makes it so there's nothing to kill for a while going forward which is hard when we have limited time to play

On the flip-side, if I see a low-level toon in a fight (lower then me), I'll try to heal them instead so they get to fight for themselves

I can understand being mildly annoyed if someone kills some long-respawn-timer boss right before you get to it, or someone grabs a node/chest you wanted before some mob engaged you.

I'm not sure why anyone would be upset over getting a little help at no XP/treasure cost, though.

Doesn't bother me at all, the loot is per player and the experience was likely meaningless.

I generally help others if I see them, although if it's a low level character I see and I'm playing a high level one I tend to hold back my damage so of it's a new player they get the experience an actual fight.

In other words, you look at them while they slowly dying and screaming while you stand tall and laugh evil at them ;)

A couple of weeks ago I was going through some maps with my main Khajiiti Magplar and solo-ing the world bosses. It was quite early in the morning and I was nearly alone.
Then I noticed someone watching me fighting the Boss and he then asked me via whisper if he could join the fight. I was really surprised to even get asked in the first placed and since I couldn't really reply while fighting....I just kinda waved to him to tell him it is okay.

After the fight I told him that it was totally cool that he joined and that I wonder why he would even ask in the first place. Turns out...this player had just joined the EU server from the american one. And he told me that people would really get upset on the US server if you dare kill "their" mobs or bosses.
I really couldn't believe this kind of mentality even exists in the first place. Imho if you are keen to have the mobs and bosses to yourself....go ahead and play Skyrim. Nobody will bother you there. This is a multiplayer game and hence you are not entitled to claim "your" mobs.

It wasn't me but I to pretty much defected from PC NA for PC EU. People seem much more friendly and helpful.

On Topic: I don't mind at all if people want to join in and be helpful either with DPS or heals but like a lot of posters I do get rather put out when people steam roll through public dungeons/delves....then again sometimes I just trail along behind as best I can and just get it finished, I can always come back later and just explore :)

Honestly, I don't need the help and I doubt they feel like they do. The game just isn't that hard.

But having played MMOs before, this hasn't really "bothered" me. The game is designed so that one player can be fighting a mob and another player can come and fight the same mob, too. When the mob dies, both players get experience. Another element of the game design is that a single player can solo much of the content in this game without the need of assistance from other players.

Since I've only been playing a short while, I still recall the first time I went through the Wailing Prison. That moment established clearly, for me, the protocol for killing mobs. Kill them. Throw down a distance attack even if someone else is fighting the mob. Grab whatever experience you can regardless of whether the other player needs help or not.

That is clearly how other players play the game because that is how the game is designed.

Now when I play I kill my own mobs and move on. If I'm killing a mob, in a delve or a public dungeon or whatever, and another player comes up and starts attacking the same mobs, I just block and let them get a few hits in. Once I'm aware of what they're doing, I'll attack mobs and then block, allowing them to kill if necessary. If I see the same player attacking a mob, I'll hit it a few times or fire a ranged attack at it. Fair is fair.

Is this "kill stealing?" Not in a game designed like this. Players who claim this is kill stealing are trying to establish an artificial morality based on how they want to play the game (like a solo game), despite the game's overall design.

It never bothers me - i'd rather people join in and help when I don't need it than leave me to die when I'm being slaughtered by a world boss.

I always join a fight I'm passing (Except in PvP where I turn around and go in the opposite direction...)

Yes it bothers me, but it is part and parcel of MMO's these days so I accept it.

'Puts on specticles and leans back in rocking chair'

Back in the olden' days when everywhere was fields there was a game called Everquest and it was considered very poor etiquette to kill steal. You could in fact incur a ban on somebody if you could prove they moved in on your "camp".

I try not to step on ppls toes when I come steamrolling on the AoE monster and if I get the feeling of someone new in the dungeon I try to hold back a bit.

I always stop and look around when I reach the delve boss if someone is just around the corner so they don't have to wait for the respawn. Same when I solo dolmens; I take a little break before I close the last pinion. If someone new show up I let them close it.

I don't mind when ppl kill all the trash but I appreciate when ppl wait at the boss or let me close that last second pinion as well

I wish there was open world pvp and pk system.

    Justice system plz.

    I steal kills.

People in random dungeons don't seem to mind sorc players that can help win them the fight and the XP.

    If I find 'random group' farming a world boss, then yes, I walk right in and throw everything that I can at it. I die and revive at least five times during the fight and normally walk away with the kill. Sometimes I don't. I don't do the same spot twice, I move on. Several random 'group friends' have dumped me mid-play as they weren't winning anything. So, I don't play that way anymore;
    Some important facts:
    • Gameplay has been knobbled to lower the effects of my chosen character, so it's FAIR NOW.
    • If you keep being beaten, then maybe YOU made a mistake in what you chose as a character; or its configuration
    • This is the ONLY thing that I ever win; so GFY.

on the 'Justice system'. Sure. I would nail every Palomino-riding Gandalfnnnnn that sprints in to steal what resource node I have just arrived at; or die trying. Good luck, it's already the 'lawless west' now.

I think the crowd that cry "kill stealing" just don't know what kill stealing really is. It's only kill stealing if you take full possession of the rewards (be it XP, loot, or achievement) and credit for the kill from the player who attacked it first. In this game that's just not possible. In past games they have had systems whereby whoever does the most damage to a mob receives the kill credit and rewards, this is where the term kill credit comes from, and the only place it is appropriate.

If someone helps me kill something faster I am all for it, the only thing I hate is when me and my wife are doing World bosses and I am tanking it and another tank comes in an starts to taunt it. If I see another tank in before hand I always swap to my DPS set up with Alpha gear. But when others see tanks I guess they just say F it and goes in an over taunts and causes taunt immunities. It can be pretty annoying on some of the harder world bosses, more so when we do our lowbies.

I don't really mind normally, but if I was there for an extended period of time, slowly chipping away at a boss, determined to kill it, and a group of 5 randomly shows up and nukes it, I'll be a bit upset.

That's very much my view. It wouldn't normally bother me, but occasionally I've tested myself against a particular tough mob (whether in this game or some other) and just as I have it beat someone has come along and delivered the killing blow. That can be a tad frustrating.

I think if another player is routinely fighting in an ordinary area then it's courteous to run on by, or if the need seems apparent then to pause and just see whether any help is needed before either moving on, throwing out a heal, or joining in to save the other player dying.

In the case of what are intended to be group encounters such as open world boss mobs, of course, then it's more appropriate just to jump in and help out - the more the merrier!

The only time it really bothers me is when, they jump in. Get aggro. Start getting wrecked. Run away with boss chasing. Then reset the boss.

Drives me nuts. So much so I slot a taunt on my dps when doing bosses.
